The trio quickly formed their team, exchanging simple introductions before they had to fight together, putting their lives in each other's hands. Of course, things were always much worse than they imagined. 0

Gal was feeling overwhelmed. As a police officer in this area, he knew how many resources could be mobilized. He could only pray that his superiors would send more help. What they saw outside the police station was a gathering of Zombies. Only a few people were desperately running, hoping not to become a tasty meal for the undead. 0

"Let's kill them," Bai said without hesitation, raising his gun and starting to shoot. For someone who lived on the edge, killing—whether it was a person or a Zombie—was an easy task. 0

Fortunately, Zombies mostly acted on instinct. Perhaps because the trio was positioned on higher ground, they momentarily went unnoticed. 0

Reiko was feeling uneasy. Although it seemed easy to hit a target with a gun when watching others do it, reality was always cruel. Despite firing several shots, she hadn’t hit a single Zombie. 0

"Do you know the basics of shooting, Reiko?" Bai asked as he took down two Zombies with consecutive shots, leaving Gal—who was supposed to be the professional—feeling frustrated. 0

"I know, it's about aligning three points." 0

"Good, as long as you know that." 0

"No tips?" Reiko nearly exploded at Bai's response; wasn't that just useless chatter? 0

"Just practice more." 0

Gal chuckled and felt relieved; it wasn’t that he wasn’t professional enough, but rather that he lacked practice. Reiko didn’t share this sentiment; she thought Bai was just messing with her. 0

"By the way, did you know that people bitten by Zombies will quickly turn into Zombies themselves?" 0

Gal clearly wasn’t aware of this situation. As a police officer, he couldn’t react like an ordinary person and scream in panic. 0

After shouting a few times, Reiko said, "What do we do? If even one gets away, more people could turn into Zombies!" 0

"Yeah," Bai replied casually. 0

The Zombies at the entrance had mostly been cleared out, but distant screams reminded them that difficulties were not so easily dealt with. 0

"The current situation is that we don’t understand anything. Trying to kill these Troubles is nothing but a pipe dream," Gal said as he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and handed one to Bai. 0

"This is your job as police officers; my goal right now is to get out of this hellhole as soon as possible," Bai said nonchalantly, blowing out a smoke ring, lost in his own thoughts. 0

Gal shot an angry glance at the man with the Asian features, and the fondness that had barely begun to blossom in his heart quickly faded away. For Gal, this place was his home, a home he would fight tooth and nail to protect. Yet the man before him seemed to regard his hometown as a hellhole, which only fueled his anger. 0

"I wish I could kill them all," he said. "Our entire team has suffered tremendously because of these pests. But you haven't seen their terror; thinking you can easily wipe them out is just laughable." 0

"I know, but I have to fight with everything I've got, even if it's my last breath." Gal picked up his communicator again, though he seemed somewhat skeptical of Bai. After speaking briefly in the local dialect, he hung up. 0

"The army will arrive in twenty minutes. I've already reported the situation to my superiors. According to their information, we need to retreat quickly." 0

"Where do we retreat to?" Reiko felt a bit lost in the face of the unfolding scene; after all, the enemy was terrifying. 0

"The higher-ups haven't given clear instructions. I just think we should go wherever is safe," Gal said as he finished his last puff of smoke and headed toward the street. 0

Bai shrugged helplessly and followed along; sticking with the main group was the wisest choice at this moment. Reiko had no specific goal either, although she wanted to find that girl who could take down a dozen Zombies with just a knife. But when she thought about it, she realized she had forgotten to ask for the girl's contact information. 0

"Where are we going now?" Lin Yi, carrying Li Qiweng, felt a bit tired after walking for a while. This city was too unfamiliar to him, and he didn't know where to go. 0

"We need to get out of this city as quickly as possible," Flower Cannon said casually while looking at the empty surroundings. 0

"I want that too, but where can we go from here?" Lin Yi suddenly felt a pang in his heart; just thinking about it made him realize he was one of the abandoned ones. For so long, he had thought he could live comfortably, but now he couldn't even go back. 0

"You can return to your own country; we'll continue our wandering." 0

"I can't go back; they'll kill me." 0

"I always thought only people like us couldn't return home. A good person like you can't go back either?" Flower Cannon's previously casual tone became more serious. 0

"I think I'm a good person too—so good that I'm rotten. You could say I'm a 'rotten good person.'" Lin Yi forced a bitter smile; at this point, he felt like half of a stateless individual. 0

"Alright then, stick with me, and I guarantee you'll live freely." 0

With that, Flower Cannon walked up to an SUV and smashed the glass with his gunstock. Then, like a snake, he slipped smoothly into the vehicle. 0

"You guys really are professionals at smashing and grabbing," Lin Yi remarked without showing any of his 'rotten good' character. He simply opened the back door, placed Li Qiweng inside first, and then climbed in himself. 0

Jiao Jiao naturally took the passenger seat, while Hai, though somewhat reluctant, had no choice but to sit next to Lin Yi. Lin Yi was a bit curious about the girl beside him; after all, she looked to be in her twenties. She had always been gentle and refined, yet she found herself mingling with pirates. However, at this moment, they were all strangers to each other, making it difficult to ask too many questions. 0

"We're heading straight to the airport now; we should arrive in about twenty minutes. No matter which country we fly to, leaving this place is the best option," Lin Yi said. 0

"But Brother Hai is still unaccounted for; we can't just leave like this," Hai suddenly spoke up, his voice quiet but exceptionally firm. 0

"Hai, do you want everyone to accompany Gu Hai to his grave? Don't forget that Gu Hai helped us make our fortune! But now, it seems like only a few of us are left alive. What do you want to do?" Jiao Jiao snapped from the front seat, her frustration boiling over. They had come here chasing dreams of gold, but reality had nearly cost them their lives. As the leader of the Blood Wolf Mercenary Group, Gu Hai was the root cause of their troubles. 0

"But we can't blame him; he was the one who covered our retreat in the end," Hai argued anxiously in defense of Gu Hai. 0

"Hmph, who knows if it was his scheme all along? Maybe he intended to kill us and keep all the gold for himself!" Jiao Jiao's words were laced with anger, leaving the two men beside her at a loss for how to intervene. 0

"Brother Hai isn't that kind of person!" Hai clearly lacked Jiao Jiao's assertiveness; although he wanted to defend Gu Hai, he didn't know how. 0

"Everyone, let's not argue. None of us want to see this happen. Let's stay alert; we might run into other companions," Flower Cannon interjected, realizing that mediation was necessary at this moment. 0

"Listen to Flower," Jiao Jiao said with an air of authority. 0

Flower Cannon wanted to say more but held back. After all, countless examples from fallen comrades proved that arguing with women was a losing battle from the start. 0

The vehicle gradually fell into a heavy silence as they witnessed too many tragedies along the way. One by one, people were bitten by zombies and eventually turned into zombies themselves, going on to attack others. Perhaps they were once teachers and students, fathers and sons, or brothers. But now there was only blood and flesh, accompanied by endless screams. No one felt sympathy for them; there was no time for that. Everyone felt as if a massive shadow was pursuing them from behind, suffocating them and pushing them toward the brink of collapse. Lin Yi kept his eyes closed; he wasn't a cold-blooded person, nor was he someone who would seek his own demise. 0

The zombies had become incredibly powerful after feasting on flesh and blood; they could even charge directly at their vehicle. Even if they were knocked away, they would quickly get back up. These zombies were also harder to kill because of their incredible speed. However, what puzzled Lin Yi most was why the violent forces in this country had not mounted any significant resistance until now. 0

"This is bad; there are zombies everywhere outside! If we're not careful, these disgusting creatures will press their faces against our windows to scare us," Flower Cannon shouted as he frantically honked the horn in an attempt to drive away the bothersome creatures surrounding them. 0

"Wait! I think I see Brother Bai!" 0

The car was surrounded by zombies and moving slowly. Upon hearing Jiao Jiao's shout, everyone turned their gaze in her direction. 0

Not far away, they spotted a triangular formation of three people continuously shooting at the approaching zombies. However, as more zombies closed in on them, it seemed that those three were struggling to hold their ground. 0

“Old Bai is still alive,” Flower Cannon murmured after getting a good look. 0

“Brother Bai wouldn’t die even if you did. Hurry up and save them!” 0

Hearing Jiao Jiao’s angry shout, Flower Cannon could only sigh helplessly before sharply turning the steering wheel and speeding off in the direction of three o'clock. Of course, due to the excessive speed and sharp turn, Jiao Jiao ended up crashing into the door. 0

At that moment, Reiko was lamenting her fate, realizing she might perish without even having given away her first kiss to a Zombie. The three of them were quite unfortunate; they had barely stepped outside when they were chased by a horde of frenzied Zombies. As more and more Zombies surrounded them, they found themselves with no chance to escape in a vehicle. 0

Just when they felt they could hold on no longer, a car suddenly screeched to a halt in front of them. 0

“Hey, Old Bai, I’m here to save you!” Flower Cannon’s driving skills were impressive; he managed to ram through most of the surrounding Zombies, leaving the rest for them to handle. 0

“Good brother,” Bai nodded and walked toward the car, only to see Lin Yi had already gotten out. “Why is he here too?” 0

“Now we’re all in this together. We can’t afford to squabble anymore. If we unite, we’ll have a stronger force to protect ourselves!” 0

Everyone understood the gravity of the situation and didn’t bother to argue any further. 0

Get in the car and escape! 0
