Reiko ran with all her might. As an educated individual, she understood that saving lives was of utmost importance in times of crisis. So when she saw the words "Police Station" flashing before her, she decisively walked inside. 0

Perhaps it had been too peaceful for too long, long enough for people to forget the urgency of survival. The clock had just passed nine, yet inside the police station, there was only a plump officer sitting idly, waiting for his shift to end. When this officer noticed Reiko rushing in with a panicked expression, he merely glanced up and prepared himself to hear yet another mundane report. 0

"Officer, there are large monsters appearing by the seaside! I need you to hurry and help!" 0

Seeing Reiko panting heavily, the officer felt a flicker of excitement in his heart, which had long been devoid of such feelings. 0

"Oh, my beautiful lady, is there anything we can't take our time with? I have some excellent coffee beans here; I think we could chat over a cup," the Fat Officer said as he shifted his body, seemingly intending to step out from behind the desk. After more than twenty years on the force, his professional instincts told him that urgent requests from the public should be handled slowly. For the entire police station, these reports could be summed up in five words: not worth worrying about. 0

"No! There's no time! There are so many of them, and they're attacking people! One of my companions has already been eaten!" Reiko's frustration grew as she realized her urgency was met with indifference. Still, she managed to suppress her anger and explained patiently. 0

The Fat Officer paused for a moment. Once he confirmed that this beautiful lady was not delusional, he began to consider that perhaps the situation was indeed serious. 0

"Where is this happening?" He picked up the radio, ready to call for patrol units outside. 0

"At the Harbor!" Reiko sighed. With modern military support, those so-called monsters should be easy to handle. 0

"Calling Sector Three, we have an emergency situation!" 0

"Unit 046 responding; please advise!" 0

"Unidentified creatures reported at the Harbor; please proceed to confirm!" The Fat Officer found it hard to fully believe Reiko; after all, such things were too bizarre. 0

"Report to headquarters: All is normal at the Harbor!" To the Fat Officer's surprise, the response came quickly. 0

He shot an annoyed glance at Reiko; after all, he trusted his own people's judgment. Of course, it was also because every year there were always a few bored individuals who took pleasure in pranking the police. 0

However, before the Fat Officer could conduct ideological education on Reiko, a series of screams echoed through the communicator. 0

The piercing cries transmitted over the radio to the entire police station, as if warning everyone that danger had arrived and it was time to prepare for battle! 0

"Calling Unit 046!" 0

Just an hour ago, the once bustling Harbor had descended into chaos. The lights of Mo Building flickered ominously, signaling a hidden message to everyone. Lin Yi weakly waved his blade in his hand, yet he hadn’t taken down a single Zombie. All the Zombies that had approached him were swiftly dispatched by Li Qiweng, who had decapitated them with a single strike, rendering them motionless. He felt somewhat helpless; as a man, it was humiliating to watch his woman fight for her life in front of him. 0

After observing for some time, Lin Yi realized that not all Zombies posed a threat to him. The ones that had just fed on humans were indeed the strongest; the rest wandered aimlessly and were generally weak. However, as a scholarly man, Lin Yi found himself lacking the courage to take down a wandering Zombie nearby. 0

"Hey, I don’t have much time left; we need to retreat!" Li Qiweng leaped into action, swiftly cutting off the head of a Zombie that was preparing to ambush her from behind. 0

"Not much time?" Lin Yi paused for a moment before recalling that Li Qiweng's remarkable prowess was largely due to her recent use of the Potential Gene Drug. 0

"How long do we have?" Lin Yi was unsure when Li Qiweng had taken the Gene Drug. 0

"Fifteen minutes." Li Qiweng glanced around at the increasing number of Zombies and understood that relying solely on her strength would not turn the tide. 0

"We should head to the embassy first; at least we can return home. If we die, we should die in our own country!" Lin Yi also realized how insignificant individual strength was in this disaster; they needed to retreat first. 0

"My sister traveled thousands of miles to follow you here; do you think we can still go back?" For a moment, Li Qiweng's previously resolute gaze seemed to waver, but it quickly steadied again. 0

"Lin, don't scare me like that. Do you really want me to die in this foreign land?" 0

"It's not me scaring you. If I didn't know someone was trying to kill you, do you think I would willingly follow you to this hellhole?" 0

At that moment, all Lin Yi could feel was gratitude. Perhaps the only way to express his emotions was through a hug. 0

"Get away! What time is it? We need to hurry to a safe place. There will be plenty of time for hugs later." Li Qiweng swatted Lin Yi's outstretched arms away, but her expression quickly changed as she suddenly threw her weapon aside. 0

"Who’s there?" 0

From around the corner, two timid and frail figures emerged from the shadows. However, these two slender figures were carrying something that seemed mismatched with their bodies—assault rifles. 0

"We saw how well you dealt with the Zombies and just wanted to take a look. We didn’t know where else to go. Our companions either got lost or were eaten, so we just followed you." One of the frail figures, having gathered some courage, stepped forward with her companion to explain. 0

"It’s you!" Lin Yi recognized them immediately as Jiao Jiao and Hai, the very people who had tried to kill him not long ago. 0

"You know them?" Li Qiweng asked everyone present, though her gaze remained fixed on Lin Yi. It seemed she was ready to take action if he didn’t clarify the situation. 0

"Of course. I naturally recognize the ones who almost killed my husband," Lin Yi replied, no longer needing to play the innocent victim. With a super soldier by his side, he was confident that any attempt to draw a weapon would be swiftly dealt with. 0

"It’s a misunderstanding; it must be a misunderstanding. Clearly, we’ve been set up as well." Jiao Jiao reacted quickly. Although she looked down on Lin Yi, it was evident that the woman before them posed a significant threat. 0

"Hand over your guns!" Li Qiweng didn’t waste any more words with them; after all, she wasn’t reckless enough to eliminate them outright. 0

Jiao Jiao and Hai had no objections; after all, who would dare provoke someone capable of taking down so many Zombies? 0

Lin Yi instinctively picked up the rifle thrown at him and slung it over his shoulder. After a considerable effort, he managed to pull out the blade that Li Qiweng had thrown, thinking that having more weapons for self-defense could never be a bad idea. 0

"What do we do now?" Jiao Jiao spread her hands, indicating that she was unarmed and needed protection. 0

"I can't worry too much about it. The situation we're in can only lead to one thing: fighting. Regardless of women or children, we must fight to survive," Lin Yi replied resolutely. 0

What a joke! For someone who wanted to kill her husband, even if that someone was a woman, there was no choice but to retaliate. However, in this critical moment, there was no time to think too much; Li Qiweng didn't want to easily bear the label of a murderer either. 0

Lin Yi felt a warmth in his heart as he noticed Li Qiweng frowning at him, conscious that they needed to leave soon. 0

Only fighting, fighting, Heimomo murmured softly. 0

Lin Yi took Li Qiweng's hand and hurried towards the city center, where there were some armed forces; perhaps they could hold off the threat for a while. Li Qiweng allowed Lin Yi to lead her like a girl, silent but with a smile on her face. 0

"Wait!" Li Qiweng suddenly tugged at Lin Yi. 0

"What is it, Weng?" Lin Yi's heart tightened, realizing things wouldn't go as smoothly as he had hoped. 0

"Darling, it seems you’re going to have to fight for me," Li Qiweng said as she leaned against Lin Yi, her body going limp. 0

Without needing to think too much about the situation, Lin Yi saw three elongated figures approaching him. Although they appeared unsteady, their determined steps filled him with dread. 0

"Don't come any closer!" Lin Yi waved his knife with one hand but felt powerless without the presence of a tiger to intimidate them. 0

"Roar~" came the monotonous response; the zombies only knew how to eat flesh. 0

"Damn it!" It was only then that Lin Yi remembered he was carrying two guns. He quickly drew one, aimed, and pulled the trigger—only to find it made no sound because it had long run out of bullets. 0

Lin Yi had no time to complain. He had to set Li Qiweng aside against the wall and raise his knife, preparing for battle. To be honest, the most brutal thing Lin Yi had done in his life was stepping on a rat in the company, leaving it bloodied and broken. Now, he was about to face a pile of rotting flesh that was no longer human, and he truly didn't know how to make the first cut. 0

The Zombies wouldn’t give him much time. When they spotted him, it was as if vultures had seen carrion or hungry ghosts had caught a whiff of fresh blood. His legs, which hadn’t been very agile, suddenly felt like they were injected with adrenaline. Though he limped, he quickly closed in on Lin Yi. 0

Fortunately, it wasn’t three of them attacking at once, and the one that approached wasn’t particularly quick. Lin Yi raised his blade and told himself to stay calm. 0

“Ha~!” 0

With a loud shout, Lin Yi gathered his strength and swung his knife directly at the Zombie's outstretched hand. The hand, mostly just rotten flesh with little skin left, was severed cleanly. However, the Zombie didn’t feel pain; Lin Yi held his breath and maneuvered around the Zombie's other hand before swinging his knife towards its neck. 0

“Crack~” The knife that Li Qiweng had somehow found cleanly sliced through the Zombie’s neck, leaving a smooth severance. 0

But before Lin Yi could revel in his success, another Zombie lunged at him. 0

It’s often said that the simplest moves are the most effective. So Lin Yi quickly reversed his blade and aimed it at the approaching Zombie. Another crack echoed through the air; however, this time its neck didn’t break. It turned out that Lin Yi had been too hasty—the blade only grazed the Zombie’s side, getting stuck against one of its ribs. 0

At that moment, he found himself unable to withdraw the blade, and the Zombies seemed to understand combat tactics. The last one ignored Lin Yi completely and lunged toward Li Qiweng, who lay helplessly on the ground. 0

“No~!” In an instant, Lin Yi felt his blood run cold. Was this how the battle would end? 0
