Once the eight Intelligence Chips were installed, the theoretical guidance for the Mechanical Tail and the core issues of software control were resolved. What remained was the hardware of the Mechanical Tail.
This would test Lin Yuan's Mechanical Assembly skills, but he was quite confident.
The assembly of the Mechanical Tail was undoubtedly complex. According to Lin Yuan's design, three main axes would serve as the primary structural framework, akin to a ship's Keel or the bones within a tail.
In short, these were the main load-bearing components and sensory supports. Lin Yuan boldly named them Keel Line One, Dragon Spine Line Two, and Dragon Backbone Line Three.
These three Keel axes were also intricate; they were not a single continuous piece. In fact, they were made up of segments of Linked Pipe Components that Lin Yuan had modified from other Parts. The final result was that once connected, these three Keels could flexibly move in all directions—up, down, left, right, forward, and backward—and could also retract quickly.
According to Lin Yuan's design plan, the entire Keel would be approximately thirty meters long and composed of one thousand five hundred segments of Linked Pipe Components. Each segment was unique in size, arranged in a way that ensured when retracted, all one thousand five hundred segments could condense to three meters in length and coil up like a snake.
Thus, it was easy to imagine the complexity and difficulty of this modification project.
Fortunately, Lin Yuan was quite capable; his technical skills were top-notch. The processing technique he employed involved initially using the most basic Parts for machining and modification. Once he met the requirements, he would then quench them with Biological Alloy. This process had already been approved by the Training Base, resulting in the final Parts that would be assembled into the Keel.
This entire process took Lin Yuan over ten hours. Ultimately, this thirty-meter-long Keel emerged perfectly formed; its thickest point had a diameter of only thirty centimeters while its thinnest point measured just three centimeters. Of course, extremely sharp Drills would need to be added later since this was merely the first phase.
Next, Lin Yuan began the second phase: wiring. In other words, laying down neural fibers.
It sounded sophisticated and high-end; however, Lin Yuan was compelled to do so. After all, this suddenly added tail would inevitably clash with the overall integration of the Mechanical Body. His current Mechanical Modification Points had been completely depleted, leaving him no choice but to adopt this method.
Fortunately, his current Intellect was based on an A180 Punisher System, which had numerous threads. Even if half of its performance were allocated elsewhere, it could still maintain peak control capabilities.
To flexibly control this so-called Killing Weapon known as the Mechanical Tail, Lin Yuan chose not to directly control it with the Mechanical Body. Instead, he opted for control through Intellect, and then he controlled the Intellect itself. It sounds convoluted, but in reality, it just adds an extra layer of programming—a standard two-step process.
To make the a180 Punisher more practical as this two-step process, a complex Intellect connection was necessary. How complex? Essentially, Lin Yuan managed to connect each segment of the Linked Pipe Components to an information terminal. With three Keel and 40 segments of Linked Pipe Components, that meant 40 information control terminals. To put it simply, it was akin to a parallel circuit.
Well, actually, it was more like a series circuit. In any case, with these 40 information control terminals, Lin Yuan could use Intellect to control the up-and-down and left-and-right movements of each segment of the Linked Pipe Components, ultimately forming a terrifying level of manipulation.
This part was relatively simple because all the pressure was on the a180 Punisher's Intellect.
Next came the third assembly phase: laying down the external armor. After all, relying solely on three Keel wouldn't provide much in terms of large-scale lethality. Thus, armor needed to be laid over the outside of the Keel, which was considerably easier. The armor was also segmented according to the Linked Pipe Components, ensuring flexibility.
Lin Yuan took great care in selecting the materials for this armor. He really wanted to use those high-grade materials collected from the Alien Battlefield, but due to the review system at the Training Base, he ultimately chose the composite wing material from the Pterosaur H-.
As a result, the Enhancement Level remained at a mere 55 points.
After finishing with the external armor, they finally reached the most vicious and insidious phase: installing the barbs.
This was also why Lin Yuan boldly adopted the use of Linked Pipe Components. At each junction of these components, he installed twelve triangular barbs, each fifteen centimeters long. These barbs were controlled by information terminals and remained parallel to the external armor during normal conditions—so close that they were nearly invisible unless one looked closely.
However, once these barbs were activated, they would stand upright at a 45-degree angle like quills on a porcupine. The edges of these triangular barbs were razor-sharp!
Imagine if Lin Yuan were to face that Mistjaw Beast again; when he punctured a hole in its body and then plunged this Mechanical Tail deep inside while activating the barbs and pulling out with great force—it would undoubtedly result in a gruesome scene of shredded flesh. Even beasts stronger than the Mistjaw Beast would likely crumble under such an assault!
Of course, these barbs had to be sufficiently sturdy; otherwise, they would easily snap off.
Moreover, this was just one method of attack. When faced with a being like the Mechanical Warrior, those spikes would be rendered useless.
However, Lin Yuan had long been prepared for this. He had also designed a powerful attack method that would make even the Mechanical Warrior feel a bit uneasy.
That was the powerful rotating Drill!
In simple terms, when encountering creatures like the Mistjaw Beast, which had inherent soft flesh, Lin Yuan's Mechanical Tail could utilize the spikes. But if he faced a Mechanical Warrior, his Mechanical Tail could retract to half or even one-third of its length.
At that moment, the Linked Pipe Components would only consist of seven segments or none at all. Within these two length ranges, the three Keels that Lin Yuan had reserved in advance would find their place to shine.
With one Keel at the center remaining stationary, the other two Keels could rotate around it in a circular motion. This would inevitably cause the linked pipes to rotate as well. At this point, Lin Yuan only needed to install an incredibly sharp Drill at the very front, and everything would be set.
If he wanted to make it even more dazzling, he could also install a ring of gears around the armor of each segment of Linked Pipe Components—those gears resembling rabbit teeth. They were clever but could inflict quite a bite.
One could imagine that with the Drill madly penetrating from the front and the gears expanding from behind, in a state of high-speed rotation, it would take just one second to insert it, creating a massive hole! (To be continued...)
