Driven by Little Wolf, they dashed in different directions. Along the way, the Zombies blocking their path were swiftly dispatched by Wang Chao with a single strike from his blade. A year ago, no one would have imagined that someone could penetrate a horde of Zombies as if it were an unguarded territory. Explosions erupted around Wang Chao, but the flesh and debris were all deflected by his shield, causing him no harm. At that moment, Little Wolf had already led Wang Chao to the other side of the Safe Zone.
Little Grudge was not idle either; he closed his eyes to sense for any lingering presence of Mind Controllers. Sure enough, he detected another Mind Controller manipulating the Zombies nearby. Following the same method as before, Wang Chao and Little Grudge eliminated this Mind Controller, after which they could no longer sense any traces of them. It was uncertain whether the Mind Controllers had truly vanished or if they had simply concealed their presence.
It appeared that these Mind Controllers were all at least at the Diamond level, undoubtedly linked to that mysterious unit. It was worth noting that even Shen Zhitao and others who frequently accompanied Wang Chao into battle were only at the Diamond level. The fact that these Mind Controllers had reached such heights was alarming. Little Grudge, accustomed to witnessing extraordinary talents at the Transcendent and King levels alongside Wang Chao, knew that most people could barely reach Platinum Tier, which was already considered a high level in this Safe Zone.
In an instant, three Diamond-level foes were slain, resolving the Zombie siege in Jing City. After all, Zombies were continuously evolving, and humanity's weapons and physical capabilities were also advancing. The warriors atop the city walls were predominantly Silver Upper Tier or higher; they could go days without food or rest without issue. Life always finds a way, and humanity was no exception.
After slaying thousands of Zombies, Wang Chao returned to the high walls. There was more than one Safe Zone in need of rescue in Huaxia; many places lacked Wang Chao and Little Grudge's swift solutions. Wang Chao needed to lead everyone further afield. Upon returning earlier, he had already identified three critical locations that required assistance: first was Jing City, as nearly all research and important factories in Huaxia were concentrated there. If Jing City fell, it would mean five years' worth of scientific achievements would be lost.
Next was the Imperial Capital, which served as Huaxia's largest Safe Zone and military district—a symbol of Huaxia's civilization. Losing this place would severely impact morale and erode trust in Wang Chao and the government. Thus, it must be defended at all costs. The third location was Zhonghu Safe Zone in central southern Huaxia; it connected north and south and was also the largest Safe Zone in the south—this too needed to be safeguarded.
Despite Wang Chao's formidable strength, he could not be in two places at once; thus, he had to divide his forces. After gathering everyone together, Wang Chao made the following arrangements: Shen Zhitao would pilot a giant aircraft with Wang Chao's guard team to Zhonghu Safety Zone to do everything possible to secure it while remaining flexible to assist other Safe Zones if capable.
Wang Chao would head straight for the Imperial Capital with Little Grudge while others held their ground in Jing City. Although there were no more Mind Controllers present and the Zombies had descended into chaos, it couldn't be ruled out that Zhang Fusheng might send more Mind Controllers to Jing City. As Base Camp, Jing City could not be lost; thus many skilled individuals like Zhuang Peng, Tang Feng Da Qiang, Liu Jie, and others from the first tier needed to remain behind.
Meanwhile, Ganzhou Safe Zone, Coastal Safety Zone, Longjiang Safe Zone, and others served as second-tier Safe Zones in the north; they could only rely on local soldiers to hold their ground until Wang Chao could save the Imperial Capital. As for the south, Aivina should manage fine; Wang Luochuan's strength was also commendable. Yangnan Safe Zone should hold up as well. This way, both fronts could flourish; if they could unite later on, that would be ideal; if not, each would stand independently without undue concern for Wang Chao.
What worried Wang Chao most at this moment was where Zhang Fusheng might appear next among the Safe Zones. Since Zhang Fusheng had reached this point with intentions of annihilating humanity worldwide, he would likely act within days after the Zombie siege began—especially targeting the people of the Imperial Capital. After all, when Jian Xiaoqing died, it was clear for all to see; nearly everyone witnessed Zhang Fusheng's anguished cries that day.
The memory lingered vividly for Wang Chao; this urgency drove him toward the Imperial Capital even before fully resolving issues in Jing City. The pressure from Zhang Fusheng was overwhelming. Previously, Wang Chao had never considered what might happen if Zhang Fusheng stood against humanity; now he couldn't fathom how many people would survive if Zhang Fusheng personally engaged in battle.
Compared to any enemy or monster Wang Chao had faced before, Zhang Fusheng was undoubtedly the strongest—and someone he least wanted to encounter. However, events had unfolded beyond his control; there was no escaping this reality. Having survived until now, Wang Chao was no longer just a small-time thug from an orphanage living for himself alone—he could no longer afford to live solely for his own sake.
Yang Mengying, Yiyi, Shen Zhitao, Xiao Wei, Tang Feng, Ouyang En, Da Qiang, Zhuang Peng… and so on. Some say life is a one-way train; people often get off along the way, and everyone is lonely.
