After saying this, Shen Zhitao turned around and walked towards the convoy. Wang Xiaochuan, holding two monsters, looked at Wang Chao with an innocent expression. Wang Chao shrugged, indicating that he had no idea why Shen Zhitao was angry. However, seeing Wang Xiaochuan's appearance reminded Wang Chao of an old song: one chicken in his left hand, one duck in his right, and a chubby baby on his back...
To fit the theme of the song, Wang Chao tied one of the monsters onto Wang Xiaochuan's back. When Wang Xiaochuan returned to the main group, everyone was puzzled by his appearance and wondered what he had been doing. The creature on his back also caused a wave of fear among them, but after Wang Xiaochuan explained, they felt relieved. Some curious individuals even came up to touch and hug it.
After the brief exploration, the group continued on their way. Once they exited this stretch of highway, it was clear that there were significantly fewer cars on the road. Some vehicles had already crashed into the guardrails. The convoy did not stop; instead, the first modified truck plowed through the roadside debris. The three monsters were casually tossed onto a passenger truck, and Wang Chao specifically reminded them not to let those creatures die.
In the truck, Shen Zhitao remained furious and ignored Wang Chao throughout the journey, leaving him feeling quite helpless. The convoy kept moving forward without stopping due to the sparse traffic and narrow roads. By nightfall, they had made considerable progress. When dawn broke the next day, they had traveled far enough that they would soon return to Jing City. This route was close to Wang Chao's small town; just over a mountain lay his hometown.
Wang Chao and Yang Mengying gazed at that mountain—it represented their homeland. Who wouldn’t want to return home? Yet given their current circumstances, returning seemed impossible. Suddenly, the convoy ahead came to a halt for some unknown reason—perhaps there was an obstruction on the road. Wang Chao didn’t pay much attention; he continued to doze off against Yang Mengying.
“Captain! Captain!” At that moment, Wang Xiaochuan rushed over and jolted Wang Chao from his dreams.
Wang Chao asked impatiently, “What now?”
“Damn it! There are monsters ahead again!” Wang Xiaochuan exclaimed. “Why do we keep running into these creatures?” Although he hadn’t been with Wang Chao for long, he had picked up some of his catchphrases. Hearing this made Wang Chao sit up straight; he opened the truck door and stepped outside while muttering, “There are just too many damn monsters.”
Wang Chao grumbled, “We’re not monks from the East Tang Dynasty; why are we encountering so many monsters on this journey? When are we going to get back to Jing City? Do we really have to face eighty-one tribulations?” As he spoke, he walked towards the front of the convoy and soon arrived at the very front. His eyes widened in shock—there was indeed another monster before him.
This monster was clearly different from the pig-like creature they had seen yesterday; it resembled a long worm—a massive python about ten meters long and several meters thick. What was terrifying was that along its sides were numerous smaller snakes, each head flicking its tongue menacingly. Even Wang Chao found it utterly disgusting.
“What is going on?” Wang Chao exclaimed. “This world is absolutely insane! Keep your distance and shoot; don’t let those snakes spray their venom or get hit by that mucus! Take cover behind the truck and fire!”
At that moment, only the tail of this enormous python was visible to everyone; most of its body lay on the mountain where just beyond it was their small town. Suddenly, Wang Chao wondered why there seemed to be more monsters as they got closer to their hometown! While he pondered this question, everyone began firing their weapons. Their aim was decent; within a few shots, they managed to blast apart several of the smaller snake heads sprouting from the python's body.
In an instant, mucus covered the ground, but fortunately, it was not corrosive, which was a small blessing in this misfortune. Amidst the dense gunfire, the massive Python writhed in pain, its body suspended in the air, with a good portion hanging over the mountainside, towering more than ten meters high. As everyone looked on, compared to the smaller snakes that adorned its body, the head of this giant python appeared immensely large.
It was as thick as a large water barrel, and its two eyes were as big as truck headlights, emitting a green glow. In the dim light of dawn, shrouded in mist, it looked terrifying and bizarre. Its enormous tongue was as wide as a banner, and its two fangs seemed to be nearly a meter long! A small child could easily walk right into the belly of this great Python!
Everyone then realized that this giant python was far longer than just ten meters; it might have reached a full twenty meters! Yet, this was not a region known for producing Pythons; even snakes over a meter long were rare here, let alone such a colossal serpent!
"Attack its eyes!" Wang Chao knew that this giant python was no easy opponent; it was even more shocking and difficult to deal with than the monster they had encountered at the hotel. "Wang Xiaochuan, have the convoy retreat slowly. Don't move too fast!" The giant Python's head hung high above ten meters, giving it a long attack range that could reach the middle of their convoy.
If the convoy was attacked, returning to Jing City would be quite challenging!
Wang Xiaochuan loved to play around, but he never faltered in critical moments. Upon hearing Wang Chao's command, he immediately followed orders. Meanwhile, Zhu Feng had already directed the guards to start shooting at the giant python's eyes. The massive creature swayed left and right; although its eyes were as large as truck headlights, hitting them was no easy task.
At the same time, the smaller snakes on the monster's body occasionally lunged forward, attempting to bite at the guards. Coordinating with the writhing of the giant body, these smaller snakes were unpredictable and very difficult to handle. The convoy had begun to slowly retreat while most of the forces provided suppressive fire on either side of it. The smaller snakes on the Python were occasionally blasted into pieces.
As more of these smaller snakes were destroyed, the giant python grew increasingly agitated. Its massive head shook from side to side; Wang Chao knew this was a sign that the Python was preparing to strike at its prey. Realizing this, Wang Chao quickly shouted, "Be careful! That giant snake's head is about to come down—watch out!"
Just as Wang Chao predicted, no sooner had his warning left his lips than the enormous snake head shot down violently.
