Wang Chao didn't want to linger here for even a moment; his thoughts were in the West. So, early in the morning, he woke up Chen Feifei, who now followed Wang Chao's every command without question. If Wang Chao told her to go east, she would never go west; if he told her to chase away dogs, she wouldn't scare off chickens. Chen Feifei understood the current situation well—staying with Wang Chao was definitely better than continuing to follow those other people.
No one had come to ambush them throughout the night, which suggested that those individuals were genuinely afraid of Wang Chao. He pushed the door open and headed straight to the supermarket's main entrance. As soon as he walked in, he noticed that the four men were already inside, and the bodies on the ground had disappeared. Wang Chao was aware of their little scheme to enter so early, but he didn't intend to stay here long or express any opinions.
Upon seeing Wang Chao enter, those men automatically stepped aside to let him pass. Wang Chao didn’t hold a grudge against them; he simply grabbed a few sausages and tossed some to Chen Feifei, also throwing a few to a woman in the corner whom he remembered Chen Feifei had called Yajie last night. The four men looked at Wang Chao with expressions of suppressed anger as they witnessed his apparent wastefulness.
Wang Chao noticed their reactions and thought to himself, if only they were more sensible, would I really have to act cold towards them every day? Going a day without banter felt as bland as a meal without spice—nothing about it was enjoyable.
With no other choice, Wang Chao continued eating quietly.
Suddenly, he heard a loud "bang" from outside. Everyone immediately turned to look out the door and saw countless zombies wandering outside, many pressing against the entrance. However, Wang Chao couldn't see anything that could have caused such a loud noise. Then came another "bang." He set down his food and listened intently.
"What is that noise?" one man shouted.
"Shut up!" Wang Chao glared at him and whispered fiercely.
The man dared not retort and muttered something before falling silent. Chen Feifei and Yajie had already hidden behind Wang Chao. Looking outside, Wang Chao saw only ordinary zombies; they certainly lacked such formidable strength. What could it be? Suddenly, he recalled the lower half of the counter blocking the door—there must be something behind it!
The counter was over a meter high, obscuring their view of whatever was behind it!
Then Wang Chao heard the sound of shattering glass. He watched as cracks spread from the bottom upwards. He patted Chen Feifei and Yajie on the back, signaling them to step back. The four men continued staring at the door, eager to see what was happening. At that moment, the sound of breaking glass intensified, and countless shards scattered everywhere!
"Run!" Wang Chao shouted as he finally recognized what was coming through the door—two three-headed zombie dogs! He watched in horror as six massive jaws with long tongues smashed through the glass door. Shocked, Wang Chao realized that these zombie dogs had evolved too. Was humanity's apocalypse truly upon them?
Chen Feifei and Yajie had already prepared to escape due to Wang Chao's earlier warning. At that moment, upon hearing Wang Chao's shout, they rushed toward the back door. Wang Chao, not daring to linger, grabbed one of them and dashed outside. The four people behind him, seeing Wang Chao had already made it out, hurried to follow. However, one of them lagged slightly and was bitten by a Zombie Dog that charged in.
In an instant, the scene turned gruesome as the person was torn in half.
The supermarket was too small, and the Zombie Dog was nearly two meters long and over half a meter tall. With the shelves in the way, the Zombie Dog didn't immediately rush to the back door, giving everyone a chance to escape. But humans could never outrun dogs; just as they reached the backyard, the Zombie Dog followed closely behind. Wang Chao had arrived at the gate but found he had no time to unlock it.
With a loud shout, Wang Chao kicked the iron lock, and astonishingly, it broke open with a single blow.
Two Zombie Dogs charged in. The four people behind were already in a panic; two of them ran toward the second floor but were blocked by one of the Zombie Dogs that leaped up and obstructed their path. The creature's long tongue lashed out quickly, piercing through both individuals! Meanwhile, a young man and another middle-aged man followed Wang Chao out. One Zombie Dog even jumped over the wall to intercept them.
Wang Chao turned and ran, with the young man closely following him. However, the middle-aged man had already been pierced by the dog's tongue.
Seeing that there were still living humans here, the Zombie Dog didn't care for food and continued its pursuit.
"What’s your name?" Wang Chao suddenly asked the young man running behind him.
The young man was clearly confused as to why Wang Chao would ask such a question at this critical moment—one that should have been asked back at the supermarket—but he replied nonetheless, "My name is Li Wei." Wang Chao nodded and said, "I’ll remember your name. There will be someone in this world who remembers you existed!" The young man's expression changed as he didn’t understand what Wang Chao meant.
But in the next moment, Li Wei understood as he saw Wang Chao execute a spinning kick. Suddenly, Li Wei felt a weight on his chest and was sent flying backward. The Zombie Dog lunged at him as he flew through the air, giving Wang Chao a chance to quicken his pace and dart down a narrow path behind the supermarket.
After running for an unknown amount of time without being pursued by the Zombie Dogs, Wang Chao finally breathed a sigh of relief and set down the two he had carried. As he walked on, he said, "Let’s find a place to rest; I don’t have much strength left." The two understood that without Wang Chao's help, they would have surely become food for the Zombie Dogs. They quickly supported him as they moved forward.
"There’s a house up ahead!" Chen Feifei pointed to a building in front of them.
Wang Chao nodded and said, "Let's go in and rest for a while."
