I suddenly felt a pang of guilt, realizing how unfair I had been to him. While I was out having fun, Mu Xuanche was at home anxiously searching for me, waiting for my return. He had given so much for me, and at that moment, I truly felt I had let Mu Xuanche down.
Tears streamed down my face as I hugged Mu Xuanche, my voice trembling with emotion. “Mu Xuanche, I promise I won’t leave you again, really.”
Bai Qiling seemed happy for us, but there was still a hint of awkwardness, especially with an outsider present.
There was nothing to be done; he had to lighten the mood.
He nudged Feng Yu with his elbow and said, “Look at them getting all mushy; it gives me goosebumps!” He even pretended to shiver and scratch at his arms.
Feng Yu politely looked at Bai Qiling, smiling gently. “It’s nice; it’s rare to see them so in love.”
Seeing that Bai Qiling didn’t feel awkward, he decided not to push the atmosphere further. Instead, he called out to me and Mu Xuanche, “Alright, enough of that! We have a guest here!”
I wiped my tears away, feeling a bit embarrassed. It took Bai Qiling reminding me that I had a guest… After all the thoughtful hospitality Feng Yu had shown me, I had completely overlooked him. What a sin…
I pulled Mu Xuanche over to his side and said, “I’m sorry, Feng Yu, I just got back and couldn’t control my emotions.”
Feng Yu maintained his gentle demeanor and replied, “It’s alright; you two really have a wonderful relationship. It’s quite enviable.”
I felt shy as Mu Xuanche responded, “Thank you, my friend. Thank you for taking care of Yan Xi. I believe she had a great time with you. Tonight, let us treat you to dinner as a token of our gratitude, shall we?”
“There’s no need to be so polite. Meeting is fate; this must be destiny,” Feng Yu said with a calm smile.
Hearing this made it seem like he didn’t want to go out for dinner, so I insisted, “No way, Feng Yu. You’ve treated me so well at your place; I must show my appreciation. Let’s make it a dinner tonight; it’s settled.”
Feng Yu looked at me helplessly but smiled. “Alright then, thank you for the invitation tonight.”
I asked, "Where do you want to eat? I'm not very familiar with this city."
Feng Yu smiled lightly, "It's up to you; wherever you decide is fine."
"Oh, come on, I really don't know what's good around here. You choose."
"Alright then, let's go to Jueyun Pavilion."
Jueyun Pavilion?
Why did it have to be that place? I felt a bit troubled.
To be honest, my impression of that place was not good at all. The first time I went there, I encountered that fake Taoist, which was a troublesome start. The second time, I walked in and got separated from Mu Xuanche and Bai Qiling because of Xiao Xuanxuan, and then I was tied up.
And no matter what, at least I had a proper meal the first time; the second time, I didn't even get to eat!
But since Feng Yu suggested going to Jueyun Pavilion, I couldn't refuse. It was clearly my suggestion for them to choose, so turning it down would just be embarrassing...
Mu Xuanche noticed my conflicted expression and turned to Feng Yu with a smile. "Sure, let's go there for dinner tonight."
Well, fine. If we're going, then let's just go.
I steeled myself and decided not to dwell on it.
The five of us arrived at Jueyun Pavilion once again.
Pushing open the antique bronze door, it was still that wax figure. Although it looked lifelike and somewhat eerie, I knew that nothing chaotic would attach itself to it anymore. Just thinking about Xiao Xuanxuan brought an unexpected wave of sadness.
I had originally planned to recover him, and upon reflection, he hadn't caused us any harm. Now that he and Junfeng Wang had reconciled and were in love, it should have been a happy ending. But for some reason, that mysterious "adult" had meddled behind the scenes, making it so they couldn't be together and even preventing them from keeping his body.
Looking at Junfeng Wang, who now seemed completely lost, I couldn't help but feel a sense of discomfort for him.
Sigh.
I took a seat by the window, noticing that the woman in the qipao was no longer at the front desk.
I handed the menu to Feng Yu, who waved his hand dismissively, saying, "No need for that. I come here often and usually just order the same few dishes."
Hearing this, I unapologetically placed the menu in front of me and began to order my favorite dishes.
This restaurant had quite a large flow of customers; many people came to eat in the evening. We arrived early out of boredom since we were at home all afternoon; otherwise, there would be no seats available by six or seven o'clock.
The restaurant's service was fairly quick; within less than forty minutes, all our dishes had been served.
We arrived around five o'clock, and by the time we finished dinner, it was only eight. Unexpectedly, after we finished eating, the woman in the qipao approached us. She held out a light gold card with both hands and said, "Hello! We are currently running a promotion. If you spend over a thousand in one transaction, you can receive a VIP Card that offers a ten percent discount."
Although I didn't think much of a VIP Card, I certainly wouldn't refuse it since she was offering it kindly.
"Ah... thank you very much," I replied politely as I accepted it with both hands.
Feng Yu drove himself home. Since he didn't have a phone, he left us a double-sided mirror that he claimed to have crafted himself. Although double-sided mirrors were once common communication tools in earlier times, they had become quite rare in the twenty-first century. The method of crafting them was practically lost to history. I never expected Feng Yu to possess such skills; it seemed his claim of being adept at crafting was no exaggeration.
We drove back to Junfeng Wang's house.
It felt utterly powerless; we couldn't even find Xiao Xuanxuan's body now. We had always been in a passive situation. If Xiao Xuanxuan and that girl in the Pink Princess Dress hadn't approached us first, we would never have had any contact with them.
Now it was worse; we had no clues and couldn't find anyone—not even a ghostly shadow.
What should we do now? Everyone was in a state of worry.
Suddenly, a muffled sound came from upstairs. We exchanged glances and quickly moved toward the source of the noise.
It seemed to be coming from a few rooms on the second floor. Each of us took responsibility for checking one room.
As soon as I opened the door, I saw something lying on the bed. I quickly turned on the light—it was Xiao Xuanxuan!
I shouted for them to come over. When Junfeng Wang saw Xiao Xuanxuan, he rushed to the bedside, trembling as he reached out to touch her, his face filled with uncontrollable excitement.
However, as he placed his hand on Xiao Xuanxuan's face, he suddenly froze and slowly began to back away.
Seeing his reaction, I asked, "Junfeng Wang, what's wrong? Why are you stepping back?"
He slowly turned his head towards me, disbelief written all over his face. "This is impossible. Xiao Xuanxuan has been dead; but the one on the bed is warm—she's alive! This can't be!"
I was equally shocked!
How could she still be alive? How was that possible? Xiao Xuanxuan had been dead for almost a year.
I stepped forward to take a look. Indeed, Xiao Xuanxuan did not resemble a deceased person at all. Her complexion was rosy, and although her breathing was shallow, it was still visible that she had a faint rise and fall. This was clearly someone who was asleep!
I pushed aside the collar of Xiao Xuanxuan's clothing to feel her pulse. It was steady—her heart was indeed still beating.
Turning to Mu Xuanche with astonishment, I asked, "Mu Xuanche, what is going on with her?"
Mu Xuanche wore a thoughtful expression as he glanced at Junfeng Wang before saying to him, "We need you to tell us everything you’ve been hiding. I have an inkling of what’s going on, but it would be better if you could share the complete story yourself."
Of course, Junfeng Wang wouldn’t refuse; he simply said, "Let’s go down to the living room. I’m afraid I might wake her if I talk here."
We naturally agreed to this request.
As we all stepped out of the room, I saw him carefully close the door, trying to make as little noise as possible.
It seemed that Junfeng Wang truly realized his mistake and genuinely loved Xiao Xuanxuan. Even though he had not confirmed whether she was really there, he still took great care of her.
Once we settled onto the sofa, Junfeng Wang began to recount the parts of the story he had kept hidden, his face filled with remorse. "In the past, I caught her cheating. This was actually something I orchestrated myself."
He sighed at this point.
