He grabbed my hand without noticing the half-remaining Nylon Rope I had worn down, revealing an ambiguous expression in his eyes. Then he forcefully strapped that thing onto my arm.
"Sorry, Sister Gu," he said, "it seems you have thoughts of escaping. Once this is attached, I hope you won't entertain such ideas, because you won't be able to run away."
I felt a sudden wave of embarrassment; getting caught while trying to sneak away was indeed quite awkward.
Seeing my reaction, he continued, "What I just attached to you is not an ordinary tracker. Do you mind feeling it?" He seemed to use some sort of spiritual energy. "Sister Gu, do you feel it? I can roughly control your movements. So I advise you not to think about anything funny; otherwise, I won't hold back."
I shot him a glare, unwilling to engage with him. How could he tie me up and then not allow me to escape? What kind of logic is that? Ridiculous! It’s no wonder that those from the Cult of Spirits are all oddballs; their thought processes are so different from normal people!
I huffed in anger, thinking: This lady won’t stoop to your level!
Ignoring him, I took a look around. It appeared we were at the outskirts of an underwater tomb; everything looked rather crude. Thankfully, no one would come here at this time, and the water wouldn’t rise either; otherwise, I would have trouble breathing.
Suddenly, something flashed before my eyes—an apparition resembling a woman darted past!
I gasped silently. Could it be that there was a ghost here?
I glanced at the man beside me; he seemed oblivious and was merely resting by himself.
I dared not make any sudden moves. I thought if I didn’t provoke him, perhaps she wouldn’t come looking for us.
At that moment, the man next to me stirred. He suspiciously glanced towards the iron door, and then his demeanor suddenly changed.
I shrank back into a corner, watching as his behavior shifted dramatically. Although I couldn’t see clearly what he was doing at the door, it looked like he was caressing and kissing something.
What the hell… I couldn’t shake off the image of what I had just seen—was that… a woman?
This man appeared dazed and was acting irrationally. Was he being seduced by a ghost?
No way! If he died, how would I get out? I needed at least one living person with me! Even if he helped me return home, being tied up by him wouldn’t kill me; at worst, he’d use me to exchange something with Mu Xuanche. But if he died here, I wouldn’t be able to handle it alone!
Suddenly, I remembered his backpack—it was still here. I rummaged through it.
I discovered a flashlight and three or four cold smoke bombs.
I first used the flashlight to shine on the man, but he still couldn’t wake up.
I could see clearly now; it was a face swollen and white from being soaked in water. The pale skin had no idea how many years it had been submerged, its color almost transparent yellow-white.
Looking at the man's complexion, his face was nearly red enough to drip!
It seemed he was caught in a hallucination. At that moment, the creature suddenly turned its head toward me, and I nearly fainted from fright!
There were no pupils in its eyes; they were completely white! And its mouth —its mouth was a piece of rotting flesh, almost ready to fall off.
Yet the man seemed to be entranced by her.
This couldn’t go on; if it did, we would be killed by him!
Seeing that the flashlight was useless, I quickly set off a cold smoke bomb. With a loud bang, the cold smoke bomb exploded, and brilliant fireworks lit up the underwater tomb, bright as day! This should be enough to wake the man!
Sure enough, as I expected, after the light faded, the man stood dazed by the door, not knowing what had happened. When he saw me, he rushed over to ask what was wrong.
I looked at him with lingering fear and said, “If I didn’t see wrong just now, you must have been enchanted by the Forbidden Woman!”
The man still looked puzzled. “What Forbidden Woman?”
I had learned quite a bit about this from Yan Shengwei; the Forbidden Woman was just one type of terrifying creature.
It is said that a Forbidden Woman is formed when a woman is violated and thrown into the water. A lingering resentment remains, and when her corpse absorbs enough ghostly energy, she becomes a Forbidden Woman. All her grievances are hidden within her bones; as long as those bones can be destroyed, she will dissipate.
The first time I turned on the flashlight, the Forbidden Woman showed an expression of extreme disgust. When I set off the cold smoke bomb, she ran away!
Clearly, the Forbidden Woman detests light and fears fire.
I didn't look like the description of the Forbidden Woman that the man had given. I was afraid it would leave a psychological impact on him later, but I asked, "Do you want to see it first?"
The man hesitated for a moment and asked, "Is it really disgusting?"
I answered firmly, "Very disgusting!"
He shivered at my response, grabbed something from his backpack, and continued walking.
I followed closely behind him, unsure if he turned to look at me.
After just a few steps, suddenly, he was pulled in!
Seeing this, I rushed over to grab him. He was panicking and trying to come back toward me. In the chaos, I didn’t know what else we had bumped into; a mass of hair began to grow wildly from the ground, entangling both of us. At that moment, all I could think about was fire!
I remembered that Mu Xuanche had called this a Human-Faced Ghost before; they wanted our faces! But they were afraid of fire.
Struggling, I reached into his backpack and pulled out a Cold Smoke Bomb and lit it.
With a loud bang, the Cold Smoke Bomb's flames drove back the rising hair.
As soon as the man was free, he quickly grabbed my hand and ran toward an open area.
Experiencing such events twice in a short time was really overwhelming for me.
Gasping for breath, I asked, "Do you have fire? They fear fire, and you only have two Cold Smoke Bombs left. I'm worried we won't be able to hold out."
The man rummaged through his backpack until it was nearly empty before finding a lighter and three Fire Starters.
After thinking for a moment, he handed me the lighter and then lit one of the Fire Starters.
I was genuinely surprised that he gave me something that could burn continuously. Was my value that important?
Once he lit a Fire Starter and I held the lighter in my hand, we set off. Perhaps it was because I had saved him twice that he voluntarily told me where another man had gone.
He said, "He's been tight on cash lately, so he asked me to watch over you while he goes to the Chamber to retrieve something."
I replied with a simple "Oh," then asked, "So are we going to the Chamber to find him now?"
The man nodded.
Thus, we walked in silence towards the Chamber.
The only sound in the entire tomb passage was the sound of our footsteps splashing on the wet ground.
Throughout the journey, I carefully held onto the lighter, fearing that the Forbidden Woman and the Human-Faced Ghost might suddenly appear.
By the time we reached the entrance of the Chamber, my lighter was already scorching hot, and the man's Fire Starter was down to half.
Was there no one inside the Chamber?
We walked around inside but found no one.
This was strange. Could it be that he encountered the Forbidden Woman as well?
If that were the case, then he should be safe for now since we had just driven her away with fire. She wouldn't be in a hurry to harm anyone right now.
The man muttered in confusion, "How odd. This Underwater Tomb Master calculated everything; it's supposed to be good feng shui. How could there be so many ghostly entities? Did the Tomb Owner set this up? The Tomb Owner is truly wicked!"
Hearing his words left me puzzled. This master could even calculate such things? If he was so powerful, how could he not overpower us before?
However, I didn't dwell on it for long as we made our way back to the main burial chamber.
The main burial chamber remained as it had been before, with a passage leading outside.
I hesitated, unsure whether we should go find that man. Never mind, I decided to leave the choice entirely to the man beside me.
He turned to glance at the pitch-black entrance of the main tomb chamber and thought about all the disgusting things inside. He felt a twinge of reluctance to just walk away.
So he turned to me and said, "I want to go back and look for him. Why don't you wait here for me? I'll come back once I find him."
I definitely didn't want to be left alone here!
So I replied, "What if you don't find him? Then I'll just have to escape by myself."
That was completely a joke! How could I escape without my Oxygen Tank?!
