I had originally planned to wait, but now I realized I could not become an obstacle for Mu Xuanche in unlocking the royal tomb. Because of this, I thought I needed to find a way to save myself.
My hands were bound tightly with Nylon Rope.
I knew that in this situation, my hands had no chance of loosening, so I decided to use the principle of friction. I brought the end of the Nylon Rope close to a stone pillar and began to rub it against the pillar, hoping it would wear down enough for me to break free.
Just as I was focused on how to escape, I suddenly heard footsteps approaching.
From the calmness of their steps, I knew they were not Mu Xuanche; it seemed to be members of the Cult of Spirits. But where were Mu Xuanche and his group?
When would they arrive? My greatest fear was becoming a burden.
I had no choice but to put on a gloomy and desperate expression, sitting there blankly, waiting for the arrival of the Cult of Spirits.
Only two people came in, neither of whom I recognized. They wore tight-fitting clothes made from some unknown material that clung closely to their skin.
Seeing that I was awake, they approached me and handed me a bottle of mineral water. One of them said, "Currently, there’s nothing to eat and no place to put you, so we’ll just have to settle for this spot for now."
What kind of enemy is so polite to their foe? This situation was truly intriguing.
I remained silent and gestured that I didn’t mind, continuing to sit there and letting them think that my silence was merely a cover for my embarrassment and helplessness.
The two didn’t stay long; before long, they left the Qin Dynasty tomb again, probably heading elsewhere to look for something.
I breathed a sigh of relief. I was worried that my earlier expression might have revealed something that would raise their suspicions. Now it seemed they hadn’t noticed anything; otherwise, they would have taken me with them.
Not losing heart, I continued rubbing at the Nylon Rope around my wrists, hoping to resolve the situation before they returned. However, to my surprise, halfway through, the rope wouldn’t wear down any further!
Feeling somewhat defeated, I leaned back against the stone pillar. What was I supposed to do now? Was I just going to wait for Mu Xuanche to rescue me?
I didn’t wallow in despair for long; after all, maintaining a negative state wouldn’t do me any good. In this helpless situation, as long as I didn’t die, that was enough.
Once I accepted this thought, I began observing my surroundings out of boredom.
In front of me lay a large stone with a somewhat green color; it didn’t look like waste material.
I carefully examined the inscriptions on the stone and roughly determined that they were written in the seal script of the Qin Dynasty.
In my spare time, I had studied this before, so I could still understand some common characters.
I closely observed this unusual large stone and managed to decipher what was written on it.
The general content was: When I was still a poor scholar, I had a relationship with Eldest Sister Gu, Gu Yunxiu. She didn’t care about my poverty and humble status and insisted on being with me. However, due to my identity, we kept our relationship a secret.
Later, when I achieved success in the imperial examinations and wanted to propose to her, the emperor took a liking to Gu Yunxiu and ultimately forced her to take her own life by jumping into a well. My heart was filled with resentment, and I began to prepare for revenge.
I struggled for a long time but could not shake the emperor from his powerful position. Yet, opportunities sometimes come unexpectedly.
Because of my exceptional abilities, the emperor even wanted to marry his cousin to me. Before that, I created various illusions to make people believe that there were unclean things in the Gu Family’s courtyard.
When the emperor offered me his cousin’s family, I couldn’t contain my joy; the moment for revenge had finally arrived! On the night I was supposed to consummate the marriage, I killed the emperor’s cousin and threw her into the well. Indeed, this made people even more fearful of that old mansion!
However, after that, I could not find another opportunity for revenge for a long time. I never had another chance to bring down this emperor.
His dejected mood persisted until he accidentally learned a secret: the reason why he always won battles.
It was something mysterious that he had obtained from somewhere, called the Ghost Seal. This item could instantly open a passage between the realms of yin and yang, allowing him to summon Yin Soldiers to assist in battles.
I thought that if I could take this item away, the emperor would surely be terrified. So I pretended to be ill at home while making preparations. Not only did I cruelly kill someone who died with great resentment in their heart, but I also found myself at a dead end; I had to bring him down.
I didn’t care about sacrificing innocent lives anymore.
Feigning illness, I ordered three tombs to be built. At that moment, the emperor summoned me to the palace, and I seized the opportunity to enter. The palace was heavily guarded; several times I had chances to obtain the Ghost Seal, but to avoid alerting anyone, I chose to lay low and plan quietly.
Eventually, an opportunity arose where I got hold of the Ghost Seal. I feigned death and entered the tomb. By the time the emperor realized something was wrong, I had already left.
Furious and embarrassed, he sent a team into the tomb to find me. However, I had already planned an escape route from the tomb, so I wasn’t worried at all. The people sent by the emperor fell into my trap and died within the tomb.
And so ends this story; what happened afterward remains unknown to me.
I closed my eyes, feeling increasingly despondent from staring at the large stone for too long, and carefully analyzed what the Tomb Owner intended. Finally, I made a bold guess: "That female ghost from before must be the same one I encountered in the tomb with my Eldest Sister Gu, and the man killed by the Tomb Owner transformed into a Corpse King due to his deep Resentment, unable to adjust before his death."
With a rough outline of the story forming in my mind, my imagination began to run wild, making the wait for rescue feel less futile.
"Hehe!
I was lost in thought when I suddenly turned to see a Child dressed in modern clothing. Whose ghost is this? Why did it come running here? Perhaps it’s a friend from that accident at sea. It seems tonight will be another extraordinarily exciting night; I might escape because of this ghost.
The ghost smiled innocently, appearing harmless and just a bit silly.
I then thought about how I could take advantage of her presence and spoke with an enticing tone: "Friend, would you like to play a game?"
The ghost replied in a pure voice, "What game?"
I responded joyfully, "Help your sister get this rope off my hands!"
The ghost pouted, "Sister, this game isn’t fun."
I patiently coaxed her, "Sister will take you to play a much more enjoyable game later; you just need to help me first."
The ghost obediently reached out to touch the Nylon Rope on my hands.
I was so focused on communicating with the ghost that I had already begun to see her as my lifeline.
However, hope was soon dashed as the two individuals returned.
As soon as the ghost saw someone approaching, she quickly vanished from our sight.
I felt an immense sense of loss; it seemed that escaping alone was no longer an option.
I didn’t dwell too much on this interruption; it was just a bit disappointing.
Fortunately, the two didn’t notice the ghost. They walked over to me and whispered softly, "Sister Gu, I’m sorry..."
So I lost consciousness again.
When I woke up this time, I was still in the tomb, but only one of the two people was by my side, and he was panting as if he had just run a marathon.
He looked at me and casually asked, "Sister Gu, are you alright?"
I nodded, thinking to myself that it seemed like he was the one who was worse off.
I glanced around, noticing that the other man still hadn't arrived, so I asked, "Where's your companion? Why isn't he here?"
To my surprise, the man merely shot me a glance before pulling something out of his pocket without answering my question.
