The river flowed clear and still, its surface undisturbed.
It appeared to exude a calm serenity, yet the very stillness of the water made it seem quite eerie.
Mu Xuanche walked alone to the front, crouched down, scooped up a handful of river water, and brought it to his nose for a sniff before he felt reassured.
He then turned to the village chief beside him and said, "Tell your villagers to go home. It's not good for them to waste money out here."
The village chief looked at Mu Xuanche in confusion and asked, "Mr. Mu, what do you mean by that?"
With a smile, Mu Xuanche replied, "I just checked the river water and found some Senna Leaves and contaminated water in it. Your village has Angelica, right? Mix it with those ingredients to make some porridge. If they take it regularly, it should cure these ailments."
The village chief was overjoyed upon hearing this and hurried off without even saying goodbye to call the villagers waiting at the hospital.
We stood there waiting for the village chief to return. It wasn't long before he came back, and I spoke first, "Village chief, have there been any unusual occurrences or phenomena in the village recently?"
The village chief pondered for a moment and said, "The most unusual thing is that all the villagers have been affected to varying degrees by the water. Some have reacted strongly while others less so. Besides that, I suppose the river has been flooding; there's no fixed schedule for when it rises, and each time it does, the water is very chaotic."
I listened to the village chief but didn’t respond immediately; instead, I looked up at Mu Xuanche's reaction. He had a blank expression on his face, as if deep in thought.
For a moment, none of us spoke.
After about ten minutes of silence, the village chief finally broke it. "Shall we go to my house? It's getting late and it's quite cold outside."
Upon hearing this, Mu Xuanche nodded and led us back to the village chief's home.
The village chief arranged rooms for us as before. After Mu Xuanche and I went upstairs, we waited until Second before coming down.
Yan Shengwei had already dressed and was downstairs eating. By the time I came down, he was nearly finished. As soon as he saw us, he quickly greeted us with a cheerful "Good morning."
I quietly sat beside Mu Xuanche, having breakfast.
Before long, Bai Qiling appeared, but he didn't come from upstairs; instead, he walked in from outside the village chief's house, holding a handful of unknown plants.
At that moment, Yan Shengwei had already finished his breakfast. Seeing Bai Qiling return, he eagerly approached him and asked what he was holding.
Bai Qiling shot him a glance and replied, "I found this by the river. I picked two samples. I feel they belong to the same category, but there are differences between them. One plant was found upstream, and the other was found midstream. I think bringing them back for research might reveal something interesting."
Yan Shengwei, looking a bit dazed, responded, "So, Brother Bai, you mean you have no idea what these plants are?"
Bai Qiling showed no embarrassment and nodded straightforwardly.
Yan Shengwei smiled awkwardly... He wished he hadn't asked.
Bai Qiling ignored him and walked over to greet Mu Xuanche. "I have a strong feeling that if this plant is tested, it could help determine the location of the tomb. I'm going upstairs to examine it closely."
Mu Xuanche simply replied with an "Mm" and nodded.
Bai Qiling went upstairs.
Mu Xuanche approached me and took my hand, leading me outside. I noticed a layer of worry on his usually calm and solemn face.
"Yan Xi," he said, "there's something I've kept from you for a long time. I want you to promise me that as long as I can obtain the Ghost Seal this time, I'll tell you everything that happened."
I was taken aback; it seemed there were still things Mu Xuanche hadn't shared with me.
But then I thought about it—there probably isn't such a thing as absolute honesty in relationships. After all, if emotional issues were laid bare for the other person to see, it's rare for that relationship to last long.
So when I heard Mu Xuanche's words, I simply smiled gently and teased him in a playful tone, "I'm really looking forward to your explanation after we get the Ghost Seal!"
Mu Xuanche noticed that I did not react excessively, and his previously anxious heart finally settled down. He embraced me warmly and said, "Yan Xi, I will make it up to you from now on."
I quietly wrapped my arms around him, not saying a word. I felt that words between us had become too pale to express anything meaningful.
I didn't know how long Bai Qiling had been standing outside the door, but when Mu Xuanche and I walked out, he was smoking, his movements smooth and stylish.
He used to be someone who never smoked, but recently he had taken it up more fervently. I suspected this change had something to do with Shangguan Chenxi.
When Bai Qiling saw us come out, he snapped back from his daze and said, "The two plants belong to the same category, but those downstream are thinner and more fragile than those in the middle. It seems like they lack nutrients."
Mu Xuanche asked casually, "So?"
Bai Qiling extinguished his cigarette and replied flatly, "So I suspect the tomb might be in the middle area. However, the most pressing issue now is how we can access the riverbed in that area."
Mu Xuanche thought for a couple of seconds but couldn't come up with any ideas. He then led us downstairs, saying, "Let's go ask Yan Shengwei; he might know something."
We went down.
Yan Shengwei was idly wandering around with nothing to do.
When he saw us coming down, he hurried over and asked, "How did it go, Brother Bai? Did your test results come out? What differences did those plants have?"
Bai Qiling patiently explained everything to him again.
After listening, Yan Shengwei looked enlightened and then asked eagerly, "So where do we enter the tomb from now?"
Bai Qiling glanced at Yan Shengwei for a second before responding, "Use your brain a bit; this is your responsibility. I'm only here to identify the general area."
Yan Shengwei exclaimed in realization and scratched his head sheepishly.
Bai Qiling paid no attention to his reaction and walked over to Mu Xuanche. "When are we leaving?"
Mu Xuanche glanced at the time and replied, "Let's pack up; it's time to go."
He turned to Yan Shengwei and asked, "What do we need to prepare for the water burial?"
Yan Shengwei answered, "The most important thing is the Oxygen Tank; everything else is the same."
Mu Xuanche nodded in acknowledgment.
When we reached the riverbank, we found that there was no way to get closer. Were we supposed to jump into the river to look for an entrance?
At that moment, Yan Shengwei suddenly spoke up. "Boss, I actually have a theory. Do you remember the tomb we entered on the mountain? I suspect that might be the real entrance."
Mu Xuanche looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Yan Shengwei continued, "The passage we exited last time was elevated, but I don't think the significance of that everlasting lamp is limited to just that. From what I understand, in many of the rare water burials, the true burial site is accessed through a false tomb on land. So I suspect this one is similar."
After hearing this, Yan Shengwei asked, "What should I prepare?"
Yan Shengwei simply replied, "Dynamite."
Upon hearing this, Mu Xuanche drove us back to the entrance where we had previously entered the tomb. Yan Shengwei didn’t question why Mu Xuanche didn’t go buy dynamite; he trusted that Mu Xuanche had a plan.
This time, our entry was incredibly smooth; even the Bloodworm from last time didn’t come out to cause trouble.
Before long, we entered the main burial chamber, where the large vat of everlasting lamps still stood.
Mu Xuanche instructed us to step back. I figured he was about to summon the Devouring Blade, and sure enough, he began channeling his spiritual energy, and the Devouring Blade appeared!
Mu Xuanche held the knife and shouted loudly, channeling his spiritual energy into the blade as he struck the ground beneath the everlasting lamp. Sparks flew as the jar made of the lamp shattered effortlessly. The solid material inside reacted violently with the sparks, and Mu Xuanche formed an energy shield to protect us.
Once the tomb chamber returned to calm, a large dark hole appeared on the ground.
It seemed this was indeed an entrance; otherwise, we would have expected to see dirt instead!
The four of us descended into the pit and began walking slowly inside.
As we ventured further, we noticed the water starting to rise. At first, we hadn’t seen any water, but soon it climbed higher and higher, nearly reaching our waists. It looked like we had found the right place.
So, we donned our prepared Oxygen Masks and took out our Waterproof Flashlights to begin diving.
