As soon as he finished speaking, Wei Steward arrived, bringing with him several vividly colored fruits.
Xun Lao personally handed these fruits to Mu Xuanche, saying, "Xuan Wang, please enjoy. In no time, you will feel your spiritual energy returning."
Without hesitation, Mu Xuanche took a bite of the brightly colored fruit.
Seeing him eat, I quickly followed suit, and Bai Qiling naturally did the same.
I tried to circulate the spiritual energy within me and found that it was functioning normally. I glanced at Mu Xuanche, and he and Bai Qiling appeared to be in the same state.

Xun Lao's expression turned nostalgic as he slowly said, "That year I was only eighteen. While traveling abroad, I fortuitously encountered a Spirit that was about to take human form. She had only been born for a little over a hundred years and had consumed many treasures of the earth due to sheer luck, which allowed her to transform early. I brought her back home, but while passing through this area, she got playful and accidentally drank the sap from this tree. As a result, she lost her spiritual energy and could only take on a half-demon form for the rest of her days. I felt both hatred and sorrow but was powerless to change it. I had no choice but to buy this land to accompany her. Twenty years passed; she grew increasingly melancholic and despised her half-human, half-demon appearance until she lost her three souls."
Xun Lao paused here, revealing a pained expression.
Mu Xuanche and the others were silent. My curiosity piqued, so I asked, "Xun Lao, what happened next?"
After adjusting his emotions for a moment, Xun Lao continued, "Later on... later she forgot me. My heart truly shattered; I had fallen deeply in love with her, yet she no longer remembered me."
I fell silent as Xun Lao went on: "Perhaps this world is all about cause and effect. Because I took her away, she lost her spiritual energy because of me and became half-human and half-demon while losing her own soul; later on, when I was caught sneaking peeks at secret texts in my clan in search of treasures for her sake, my spiritual energy was wasted as punishment and I could never cultivate again. But since I am the legitimate son of the Xun Family, they still compensated me; thus my appearance remains youthful and my lifespan is much longer than that of ordinary people. Yet my only regret is her."
I wondered; since this fruit has the miraculous ability to unseal spiritual energy, it must be related to that Miraculous Tree—perhaps it is indeed the fruit borne from that tree. If he now knows how useful this fruit is, then surely that Spirit must have been cured! What other regrets could there be?
Perhaps sensing my confusion, Xun Lao continued: "Yes, when I turned fifty-eight years old, she ate this fruit and regained her spiritual energy; she could freely switch between human and demon forms. However... she no longer loved me! She lost her three souls and all the feelings we once shared together—whether joy or sorrow."
I exchanged a glance with Mu Xuanche, both of us feeling somewhat awkward.
Xun Lao disregarded the tension and continued, "The compass was actually stolen from her. She left me and went to the mountains, where she fell in love with a Taoist priest. I couldn't accept it! So I ordered someone to secretly steal the priest's compass. But I was wrong—terribly wrong. The priest couldn't live without the compass; his life was tied to it. After I took it, he died, and she couldn't forgive me for her mentor's death. In the end, she took her own life."
A mix of emotions surged within me. I never expected such a story to unfold in this house. I could only be grateful that my relationship with Mu Xuanche was strong and unbreakable.
Xun Lao instructed Wei Butler to go inside and retrieve the compass. Wei Butler brought out a palm-sized object and said to Mu Xuanche, "Xuan Wang, this compass itself only serves its basic function; there's nothing special about it. The real importance lies in this piece embedded in the compass. Although I still can't figure out what it's for."
Mu Xuanche reached out to take the palm-sized item and replied to Xun Lao, "Since you can't understand it, let me decipher it."
Xun Lao praised him, "I believe only Xuan Wang has the ability to do so."
Mu Xuanche cupped his hands in acknowledgment and prepared to lead us away.
Xun Lao called out to stop him, "Xuan Wang, please hold on!"
Mu Xuanche didn't respond verbally but turned around, signaling with his eyes for Xun Lao to explain why.
Feeling somewhat embarrassed, Xun Lao said, "I have one request."
Mu Xuanche frowned and replied, "Please speak plainly, Xun Lao."
With a long sigh, Xun Lao continued, "I've heard that Ghost Seal is a wondrous object capable of traversing time and space, even allowing free passage between different worlds. I understand that your purpose here is likely to find Ghost Seal. Therefore, I humbly request that once you find it, you allow me to borrow it for a time. I wish to go to the underworld and retrieve her soul to atone for my sins."
Mu Xuanche pondered for a moment before agreeing immediately.
Xun Lao was visibly excited as he saw us off.
Upon returning to B City, Bai Qiling informed Shangguan Chenxi of his marriage.
Bai Qiling originally did not want to hurt Shangguan Chenxi, but things had developed to a point where he could no longer delay. The longer he waited, the deeper Shangguan Chenxi's love for him would grow, and bringing it up later would only hurt her more.
He had seen how Shangguan Chenxi reacted at that moment; she covered her mouth in disbelief, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
It was indeed heartbreaking. There was nothing wrong with loving someone; the mistake lay in the timing of her love, coming too late. The real error was that she met Bai Qiling only after Shangguan Mingyue.

Early the next morning, Mu Xuanche and Bai Qiling left B City. They thought they were sneaking away from Shangguan Chenxi, but neither of them realized she had been silently watching their departure from behind.
Once they returned to Ying County, they went to the hotel to find Yan Shengwei and the big guy. Yan Shengwei was particularly happy to see them back. According to him, the big guy had been so dull that he couldn't even get a word out of him; he was nearly bored to death.
Feeling relaxed, I joked with him, "Can you take on the big guy? Do you even dare to hit him?"
Yan Shengwei pouted in grievance, "Sister-in-law, you're bullying me!"
I couldn't help but laugh at his antics, my previous gloom lifting away.
Then Yan Shengwei leaned closer to Mu Xuanche and asked, "Boss, since you guys are back, did you bring that compass with you?"
Mu Xuanche coldly replied, "No."
Huh? Why was Mu Xuanche lying to him? I thought to myself but chose not to expose him.
Seeing Yan Shengwei's mournful expression, he sighed, "I thought you brought it back. The turtle has been complaining about wanting that compass ever since you left and keeps blaming me!"
Mu Xuanche grinned slightly and then said, "Just kidding, you fool. We didn't bring back the compass, but I did bring back something very important."
With that, he took out a palm-sized object.
I looked at Mu Xuanche's smile, and my mood brightened as well. Mu Xuanche was joking with others!
Yan Shengwei hurriedly took the item away, treating it like a treasure, and went off to study it.
I was still smiling when I noticed Bai Qiling standing there with a blank expression, seemingly indifferent to everything. This made me a bit worried.
After pondering for a moment, I decided not to dwell on it and followed Mu Xuanche back to the room.
As soon as Mu Xuanche entered, he tightly embraced me and pushed me down onto the bed.
Before I could react, I found myself completely exposed.
