Bai Qiling continued, "I know my request may contradict your philosophy of running the museum, but these Compass Fragments are indeed very important to me. You may not know my profession and that of my friend; I am a doctor, and he is the head of a large corporation."
Hearing this, I chuckled and said to Mu Xuanche, "Wow, you two have become successful members of society!"
As a result, Mu Xuanche shot me a glare, and I quietly stepped back, obediently closing my mouth.
Bai Qiling went on, "You might not understand the situation of entrepreneurs. Since his business is quite large, he has many enemies. Just yesterday, before we came to the museum, his wife was kidnapped by one of those enemies. We really need that compass because it might help us rescue his wife. I won't go into details now; I'll explain more about the compass later. Let me give you an overview so you can understand our situation better, okay?"
Shangguan Chenxi certainly wouldn't disagree. Sure enough, she said to Bai Qiling, "It's fine. Mr. Bai, please proceed with your thoughts."
Then Bai Qiling continued, "Fortunately, after we left the museum, we received news that his wife was found. However, we still need the Compass Fragment."
Shangguan Chenxi interrupted, "To be honest, I'm not quite sure why you still need the compass since you've rescued the person. Moreover, it has already shattered for no reason."
Bai Qiling leisurely fed himself a bite of food and then said, "I have another profession—Exorcist. You might not believe this, which is why I didn't mention it earlier. But since you asked, I want to be honest with you to avoid any distrust or disputes regarding the compass fragments in the future."
I couldn't help but cover my mouth and chuckle from the side. "This Bai Qiling really knows how to spin a tale; he's an Exorcist who exorcises himself!"
Mu Xuanche looked at me with a mix of affection and helplessness and said softly to avoid being overheard, "Come on, eat your food before it gets cold. You can talk more when you get back."
I waved my hand impatiently. "Oh come on! Eavesdropping adds some excitement; it feels like I'm part of this process! Someone like you who has lived for over a thousand years as an Old Ghost wouldn't understand."
Mu Xuanche looked somewhat helplessly at me and shrugged his shoulders as if to say I could do as I pleased.
According to Bai Qiling's perspective, since Shangguan Chenxi was young yet serving as the Deputy Director of a museum, she must have received a high level of education.
Although her father's influence played a part in this, she was still quite young and had earned the respect of others in the museum through her own merits.
Educated individuals generally believe in and are steadfast in their faith in science. Bai Qiling did not expect Shangguan Chenxi to be an exception; he had prepared himself for a lack of trust.
However, he was surprised to find that Shangguan Chenxi did not seem particularly astonished. After a brief moment of surprise, she returned to her usual demeanor.
Bai Qiling became intrigued and asked, "Sister Bai, don't you find this unbelievable? Don't you think I'm a madman for saying such crazy things?"
Shangguan Chenxi gently shook her head and replied softly, "Although I don't fully understand, I have encountered these mysterious matters through my father. Even though I haven't dealt with Exorcists, I can comprehend some of it, so I do find some agreement with your words."
Bai Qiling felt astonished internally but showed no sign of it on his face, only smiling. "Since Sister Shangguan can understand, then about the compass..."
He noticed a troubled expression on Shangguan Chenxi's face as she shyly said, "I'm very sorry. Shortly after you left, my father learned about this matter and instructed me to return the Compass Fragment to B City so he could repair it himself. Therefore, the compass is no longer in Ying County, and even if I wanted to, I can't hand it over to you."
I widened my eyes and frowned at Mu Xuanche. "What are we going to do now…"
Mu Xuanche also looked serious.
Bai Qiling's expression changed as well, but he maintained his gentlemanly demeanor. "We really need those Compass Fragments, so could you please help us find your father?"
Shangguan Chenxi hesitated, revealing a rare feminine side.
Seeing an opportunity, Bai Qiling quickly added, "Sister Shangguan, I know my request puts you in a difficult position, but I truly need your help."
Bai Qiling changed "we" to "I," and Shangguan Chenxi steeled herself before firmly saying, "Alright... I'll take you to B City to find my father and ask him to give you the compass."
I finally breathed a sigh of relief. Mu Xuanche looked at me with amusement and then patted my head. "You're so tense! No matter what, we'll be able to get it. Besides, this thing is not absolutely necessary."
I looked at him and said, "I thought you really wanted it. Of course, I would be anxious if you couldn't get what you wanted."
Mu Xuanche felt a mix of emotions inside, realizing how much he owed Gu Yanxi. His determination to obtain the True Dragon Qi grew stronger.
They waited until Bai Qiling dropped Shangguan Chenxi off at home before returning to the hotel.
Bai Qiling was aware that Mu Xuanche and I had overheard the entire conversation, so he didn’t say anything further and went straight to his room.
The next day, Bai Qiling drove Shangguan Chenxi's car to B City while Mu Xuanche, the big guy, and Huo Shengwei shared a vehicle.
Ying County was still quite a distance from B City, and it would take about half the drive to reach there.
Around six or seven o'clock, Mu Xuanche worried that something might happen like last time on the expressway, so he contacted Bai Qiling to stay at a hotel.
Bai Qiling then followed Mu Xuanche and the others to a town just off the expressway. This town was already on the outskirts of the province and was relatively remote, with not many people around, making it quite a quiet place.
They casually found a hotel that looked decent and seemed newly renovated, giving off a fresh vibe.
Perhaps because this city wasn't a tourist destination, there were very few guests checking in.
Mu Xuanche registered for one room for me and another for the big guy and Yan Shengwei. Bai Qiling took care of Shangguan Chenxi's accommodation, placing her right next door to his room.
Throughout the journey, Bai Qiling had kept his spiritual awareness active. As soon as they entered this hotel, he sensed something unclean about it. However, he didn't pay much attention since he and Mu Xuanche were powerful enough that very few spirits could reach their level. After registering the rooms, he didn’t mention anything to Mu Xuanche.
I flopped onto the bed as soon as I entered the room and complained, "I'm so tired. Why do we have to look for all these messy things?"
I was just casually complaining, but I held no real grievances in my heart.
When I turned to see a hint of guilt on his usually cold face, I felt a pang of discomfort. So, I quickly got up and hugged him. "Mu Xuanche, I was just venting. Don't take it to heart; you've done enough already."
Mu Xuanche tightly pulled me into his embrace and said in a gentle yet firm voice, "Yan Xi, don't worry. Once this is all over, I will make you the happiest woman in the world."
I was already quite content. I was born into a life that should have been impossible to survive. My existence had drawn countless demons and monsters wanting to claim my body.
But my grandfather had exchanged twenty years of his life for my healthy growth, and Mu Xuanche had protected me until I grew up. Now we even had a son together; we were already a family. All that was left was a stable life.
I felt incredibly fortunate to be alive. What in this world could be perfect? I had received a life that many could only dream of, along with a handsome and capable husband. I firmly believed that these hardships would eventually pass.
The bond between Mu Xuanche and me was beyond description. We were not just a couple; we had transcended to something akin to family. I felt as if we were inseparable parts of each other. If I were to leave him, I wouldn't be able to survive; and if he were to leave me, I was certain he couldn't live alone either.
