After solving this Corpse King, I also got a detailed map to the tomb. This trip was so cost-effective. We stayed another night at the village chief's house to recharge our batteries. At Second we left the village at noon and entered the place indicated on the map. This is next to Mountain Road. The lowest end of this Mountain Road is where some nearby residents bury their ancestors. There are Tombs everywhere. Although the place indicated on the map was different from the current situation, we still found the entrance easily by following the starting point. Halfway up the mountain. We parked the car on the road, and then Mu Xuanche compared the map for a while and determined that the northwest area of the landslide should be the location of the tomb. However, it is not clear where the specific entrance is due to road construction. MuXuanche proposed to view from the fault of this mountain. We entered the depths of the mountain from where the edge of the road broke off. On the road Mu The man who died? He found gold at the bottom of the water and died because of the delay. Where did the gold come from? It must have been left out of the tomb, and I happened to look at the photos taken by my men. There is a water flow in the northwest corner of the mountain fault. The connection between the two is self-evident, so I concluded that the water flow fault is an entrance to the tomb." I thought about it and stopped asking. Bai Qiling suddenly shouted: "Found it. Here." Mu Xuanche and I heard the sound and rushed to the location of Bai Qiling. In front of us was a deep pit with water flowing through it. It's definitely here. "How do we get down? Just go down like this?" I asked. MuXuanche took out a large roll of Nylon Rope and a detachable simple metal ladder from his backpack and said: "Of course not, I have prepared these." After finding a relatively strong tree, he assembled the metal ladder Fix it, and then say to the big man: "I'll go down with you to take a look. Bai Qiling you stay here with Yan Xi and I'll find a way to contact you later."
Bai Qiling tugged at the left corner of his mouth and casually replied, "Okay, I'll wait for your news."
So, we sat on the edge of this deep pit, waiting.
Feeling bored, I asked Bai Qiling, "How long have you known Mu Xuanche?"
Bai Qiling raised an eyebrow and answered, "About three hundred years, I suppose."
I widened my eyes in surprise. "That's such a long time! You two are really like a couple of Old Ghosts. Has he always been this smart?"
Bai Qiling paused for a moment before responding, "I guess so. But he wasn't always this clever; everything has its process. You'll understand that later."
I felt like I had grasped something but couldn't quite comprehend it.
So, I could only remain silent.
Bai Qiling stood up and looked into the pit. "Why haven't we heard anything yet? Is something wrong?"
Suddenly, I stood up with a worried expression. "It shouldn't be! Mu Xuanche is so capable..."
Bai Qiling burst into laughter. "I was just teasing you. Gu Yanxi, you're really naive."
I shot him an annoyed glance. "Bai Qiling, you're already an Old Ghost; can't you be a little more mature? No wonder Mingyue doesn't like you."
Bai Qiling's smile suddenly faded. He fell silent.
I also regained my composure and awkwardly stepped aside, not saying anything.
Inside, I cursed myself: What an idiot! I clearly knew that Bai Qiling liked Mingyue, and since she didn't reciprocate, why did I have to say something that would make him uncomfortable? How foolish of me.
The awkward atmosphere didn't last long. The burly man climbed up from the deep pit, his face beaming with joy as he said to us, "Master has found the way! And we are very lucky; this pit leads to an entrance that conveniently avoids the traps of the normal entrance. It saves us a lot of trouble."
Bai Qiling acted as if nothing had happened. He slightly raised one of his handsome brows and smirked, "Well, that's good. Let's hurry inside."
Seeing his nonchalant demeanor eased my anxiety, and I thought that in the future, I would make sure to speak well of him in front of Shangguan Mingyue to make up for it.
The burly man took the lead into the pit again. I stood there, still recovering from the awkwardness, when Bai Qiling teased me, "Are you dazed, Gu Yanxi? Hurry up! Don't you want to see Mu Xuanche soon?" Bai Qiling urged me to go first, so I obediently descended into the pit.
Due to the rain, the soil in the mountain was particularly damp, and because of landslides, plant roots could no longer anchor themselves in the mud. I felt quite anxious as I descended, fearing that I might slip and fall.
I cautiously held onto the metal ladder and finally stepped onto solid ground.
At the entrance were some broken dark blue bricks. I saw Mu Xuanche standing at a corner, using a flashlight to examine the bricks above him as if he was observing something.
I walked over and quietly asked, "Mu Xuanche, what's wrong? Are you looking for something?"
Mu Xuanche turned to look at me but didn't answer my question. He simply replied lightly, "Let's go; there's nothing here."
I had only asked out of curiosity and didn't think much of it at that moment. I followed Mu Xuanche as he moved ahead.
The formation of our group was like this: Mu Xuanche led at the front. I followed behind him, Bai Qiling trailed after me, and the burly man brought up the rear.
This passage had some Luminous Stones at the top. So even with just Mu Xuanche's flashlight providing light, it wasn't too dark.
The passage felt somewhat damp; perhaps it was due to the poor air quality. As I walked inside, I could hear our footsteps making wet sounds, and an inexplicable sense of foreboding washed over me.
After a short while leading us through the passage, Mu Xuanche suddenly stopped. At that moment, Bai Qiling spoke up, "There's something wrong here."
The burly man remained silent, and I couldn't detect any issues either.
Bai Qiling stepped forward, moving in front of Mu Xuanche, and turned to him. "I can sense a Vengeful Spirit here, but I’m not quite sure of its exact location. I just know we can move forward, but we absolutely must not go north."
Mu Xuanche responded with a cold "Hmm."
I hesitated, wanting to speak but holding back.
Bai Qiling seemed to read my expression and guessed what I wanted to ask. She explained, "You haven't forgotten that my true form is a ghost, right? I'm best at Illusion. Here, I've detected traces of Illusion, but they are nearly exhausted. Didn’t you notice that Mu Xuanche also stopped? He just isn’t sure what it is yet."
I fell silent.
The deeper we went, the more paths branched out before us. Moreover, the Luminous Stones were becoming scarcer, and Mu Xuanche's flashlight became our only source of light.
The sound of our footsteps echoed softly in the irregular passageway. To be honest, I was quite scared; the unknown is always the most terrifying.
I grasped Mu Xuanche's hand, which was already sweaty, not daring to loosen my grip for fear of losing him.
In the darkness, time seemed to lose its meaning as I walked blindly. Finally,
we arrived at a slightly more open Chamber. Chambers are typically located on either side of the main hall, resembling ears on either side of a face, hence their name. They are usually used as storage rooms, so they contained various burial items, commonly referred to as Funerary Objects.
I was somewhat shocked by the sight of the room filled with bronze artifacts and gold and jade; this was my first time entering a tomb.
Curious, I ventured deeper into the Chamber. The lighting was decent because of a large Night Pearl overhead. I began rummaging through the Funerary Objects and found some were already decayed beyond recognition; however, the gold and jade were still in good condition despite being somewhat dirty.
I must have been too engrossed in my exploration because I forgot to hold onto Mu Xuanche's hand. When I finally came to my senses, I realized I was alone in this Chamber.
Panic set in suddenly.
They had just been here moments ago; where could they have gone?
I was already scared in this tomb, and now with such strange occurrences, my fear intensified.
I wasn't worried about Mu Xuanche and the others getting into trouble; I absolutely trusted Mu Xuanche's abilities. But what was I supposed to do?
Right.
The talismans.
In my panic, I remembered the talismans I had drawn to ward off evil spirits. I quickly took some out of my backpack and held them in my hands.
The chamber was eerily quiet, and the large Night Pearl continued to emit its hazy light. I stood there, afraid to move even a little, as time seemed to freeze in a terrifying stillness.
