My question left Chuchen silent. He buried his head in his chest, his voice sounding somewhat low as he told me he didn't know.
"Yan Xi, I don't know if I can pull myself together again."
I hoped to encourage him. "Chuchen, you have to stand up. Have you thought about your sister? She's still waiting for you."
He kept hitting his head, telling me how useless he felt.
Seeing him like this made my heart ache as a friend.
"Chuchen, if you really want to get back on your feet, you should ask Mu Xuanche. I believe he can help you."
I trusted Mu Xuanche's abilities. If he truly wanted to help Chuchen, then Chuchen would have a much better chance.
"Think it over. I have to go now."
Noticing the time, Mu Xuanche should be back soon, and I needed to find him.
Returning to the wooden cabin, the soft yellow light was already glowing, filling the space with warmth.
Gently pushing the door open, he turned around and smiled at me gently.
I grinned back sweetly.
"Come in and eat," he said.
I bounced into the house and took a seat, feeling the ordinary and serene atmosphere between the couple.
After dinner, having eaten all the dishes, I asked her to accompany me for a walk.
Once he agreed, he led me out of the yard.
Just before we stepped outside, he mentioned that it was windy by the sea and went back to get my jacket.
I nodded in agreement, but just as he left, my phone rang.
A text message came through, short and simple, containing only two words:
"Help me."
Those two words were enough to send chills down my spine.
The message was from Mingyue's number. I quickly dialed her number, but the automated response indicated that the phone was turned off.
Mu Xuanche came out and saw my anxious expression. He asked what was wrong.
I handed him the message to read, and his face instantly tightened with concern.
"What should we do? Is Mingyue in trouble?" I grasped his hand, my heart racing with panic.
He reached out and embraced me, telling me not to panic, that he would handle the situation.
"How can I not panic? Mingyue is in trouble and calling for help! How can I stay calm?"
He frowned and shouted, "Gu Yanxi, calm down."
I wanted to be calm, but it was difficult when it involved Mingyue.
Mu Xuanche pulled me forward, and I asked him where we were going. I would know once we arrived.
I never expected that he would take me to the dungeon at a time like this. I felt a bit angry but suppressed my emotions.
Every time Mu Xuanche acted strangely, there was always a purpose behind it. I had learned my lesson from Chuchen's incident and dared not question Mu Xuanche's actions recklessly anymore.
He brought me to the innermost room of the dungeon. The dungeon itself was divided into various levels; if my room was like a luxurious presidential suite, then this one resembled a shabby motel charging thirty bucks a night.
It was simply dilapidated and unbearable.
He stopped in front of the cell and turned to look at me.
"Not bad, huh? This time you didn't cause a scene," he said, clearly mocking me. I blushed and couldn't bring myself to meet his gaze.
"Let's go inside," he said.
After he finished speaking, he pulled me in.
The originally gray and dilapidated wall surprisingly opened up under Mu Xuanche's influence.
I curiously looked at everything before me, not expecting that behind this wall was an empty space, and the world beyond it was simply astonishing.
Inside, there were more than a dozen people I didn't recognize, and in front of them was a long row of computers displaying data I couldn't comprehend.
It felt like a massive computer lab, and everyone inside was dressed impeccably.
All their faces were serious, resembling the professional researchers I had seen on television—high-end elite individuals.
Mu Xuanche told me that he had to handle matters here. I had always been puzzled about what exactly he was doing, but now I finally understood.
"Were you handling things here before?" I asked Mu Xuanche.
He nodded. I had thought that as an ancient being from a thousand years ago, it would be impressive enough for him to use a computer, but I never expected he would have an entire team.
Wow, this was truly astonishing.
"When did you learn all this?"
He glanced at me disdainfully. "Is there really a need to learn this? Just use it on the right person."
Fine, I can only admit that I'm a bit foolish.
Mu Xuanche handed my phone to the staff member sitting nearby. I quietly typed a message to him, asking, "I always thought there were only the two of us on the island. Can you tell me how many people are actually here? I feel like I don't know anything about this place."
Indeed, it was only now that I realized how little I understood about the island. When I first arrived, I thought it was just me and the big guy. Now, seeing things from a different perspective, I realized it was not the case at all.
This island was simply teeming with hidden talents; perhaps my understanding of it had been too superficial.
"You can see the people on the island; what you can't see, you don't need to know," Mu Xuanche said cryptically. I was at a loss for words; his mysterious demeanor left me completely bewildered.
"Island Master, we have an answer," a staff member sitting nearby reported.
Hastily, I rushed over to see what was happening. There would be time to ask Mu Xuanche about my questions later.
I saw that the large screen had transformed from a jumble of random numbers into a massive three-dimensional map. In the center of the map, a circular red dot was flashing continuously.
I quickly typed out my question on my phone and handed it to Mu Xuanche. "Is this where Mingyue is right now?"
"It’s the location of the phone number, but whether it belongs to Shangguan Mingyue, I can’t say for sure."
Finding the location of the phone number was already a significant breakthrough. I asked him where exactly this location was.
He patted the shoulder of a staff member sitting in a chair, and the person below nodded. An address appeared on the screen.
To my disbelief, it was here. How could Mingyue end up in this place? I found it hard to believe.
The words "Cult of Spirits" appeared on the screen, and I recognized the three-dimensional map.
The sea next to it was the waters in front of Qilin Island, meaning Mingyue was now just a sea away from me.
Had she been captured by the Cult of Spirits?
Was she being controlled and unable to escape? Various thoughts raced through my mind, filling me with worry and fear.
I couldn’t be sure what kind of emotions Mingyue had when she transmitted this information. I was afraid she might be hurt.
I turned around and tightly grasped Mu Xuanche's arm, pleading with my eyes for him to think of a way to help Mingyue.
But he told me that confronting the Spirit Sect now wasn’t a wise choice; going there could lead us into a trap.
I knew he had a point. I also understood that a significant part of Mingyue sending me this message might be false.
I couldn't hold back. She was like a sister to me, willing to do so much for my sake. Even if there was the slightest chance, I couldn't just leave her be.
Disappointed, I walked out of that mysterious computer room. My mind was blank, filled with urgency yet unable to think of anything. What should I do?
In my mind, it felt as if I could hear Mingyue's screams. I knew I was just scaring myself, but I couldn't help but think about it. The excessive worry and fear made me particularly anxious.
"Who is it? Can't you see?"
In the darkness, I accidentally bumped into someone, causing me to wince in pain. How dare he say I wasn't paying attention when it was clearly him who ran into me?
I was about to look up and see who had the audacity to act this way when I unexpectedly found myself staring at Bai Qiling.
Seeing him reminded me of something else. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out.
I wanted to type a message to him on my phone, but I realized I had left it in the computer lab.
The surroundings were pitch black, making communication impossible.
I hurriedly tried to drag Bai Qiling into his room, but this stubborn mule completely ignored me.
"Men and women should keep their distance; let go of me," he said, glaring at me. I was so furious that I almost picked up a stone from the ground to throw at his head.
With no other option, I had to stop and think.
After a moment, I remembered a way...
