I stood on the coffin lid of the Demon Chancellor alongside Mu Xuanche, while the burly man and the Dirt Expert stood atop the gilded coffin.
The ground was crawling with Black Fish, yet they seemed to avoid these two coffins as if out of reverence.
"Thud, thud, thud,"
A rhythmic knocking echoed through the tomb. How could anyone be knocking when we were inside a grave?
The sound resembled someone striking a wooden door.
Suddenly, a thought struck me—could it be coming from the coffin beneath our feet?
Mu Xuanche and I exchanged glances and both looked down.
The knocking grew increasingly intense, emanating from the coffin below us.
I swallowed hard; my heart raced with anxiety. I hesitantly asked Mu Xuanche, "You don't think your people are coming back to life, do you?"
His expression tightened abruptly as he scooped me up in his arms and stomped down hard on the coffin's surface, barking, "How dare you!"
In an instant, the knocking ceased.
Just as I wondered if this ghost was afraid of Mu Xuanche, there was a sudden force that lifted the coffin.
Fortunately, Mu Xuanche was quick to react; he flipped over and steadied himself on the ground.
The burly man attempted to rush over but was halted by Mu Xuanche's sharp command.
He placed me on the Coffin Lid of the Han, instructing them to keep an eye on me while he slowly approached the black coffin.
I was worried that those dark demons would harm him, but to my surprise, when they encountered Mu Xuanche, they all instinctively recoiled, much like cats startled by a sudden movement.
The lid of the Demon Chancellor's coffin opened, and a thick black mist surged upward from within, accompanied by a strong stench of decay. My heart raced as I watched the commotion near Mu Xuanche.
Suddenly, a shadow shot out from inside the coffin, sitting upright within it. From my angle, I could only see its upper half. Given that the Western Han had been gone for so long, even if the coffin's sealing was perfect, it should have decayed into a pile of dust or at least left behind some bones.
Yet, the body of the Demon Chancellor appeared as if it had just died—its skin pale with a slight bluish tint and showing no signs of decay. One notable detail was that it had no head.
The distance between the two coffins wasn't too far, allowing me to see the situation clearly. The cut on the Demon Chancellor's neck was particularly neat, looking as if it had been cleanly severed in one stroke.
Inside the coffin, the Demon Chancellor had already risen and was engaged in combat with Mu Xuanche. From what I could see of Mu Xuanche's condition, he seemed capable of holding his own against the Demon Chancellor for now; it was still too early to determine a victor.
I couldn't shake the feeling that there was an eye watching me from behind. Instinctively, I turned my head and found myself face-to-face with an enormous visage—one that was at least twice the size of my own face—suddenly looming before me.
He closed his eyes and pressed against me, a chilling, cold air rushing towards my face, accompanied by a strong stench that nearly made me fall off the coffin. If I had tumbled down, the dark demon below would have torn me apart.
Fortunately, the Dirt Expert beside me acted quickly and pulled me back, helping me regain my footing. The big man reacted, drawing his gun and firing at the head. However, that head was surprisingly agile, dodging the bullet with a swift movement.
It seemed to have a mind of its own, ignoring everyone else and solely pursuing me. The one aiming to shoot it was the big man, while the Dirt Expert was trying to douse it with glutinous rice, but it paid them no mind and continued its relentless chase after me.
The coffin lid was small, and there were two other people on top of it. I tried to evade the head but ended up in a precarious position. As I saw it lunging at me again, with no one around to save me, I angrily threw my head back and smashed it towards that head.
It felt as hard as an iron block; the impact left me dizzy. Thankfully, I managed to push it away just enough to save my life.
The Demon Chancellor had no body—only a head. Could this thing really be the Demon Chancellor's head? Just moments ago, I had only bumped into it, and now that head was flying back towards me again.
As the enormous mouth of the head approached, I estimated it could swallow my entire head whole. Just as it was about to reach me, I grabbed the nearby Black Donkey Hoof and shoved it into the mouth of the head.
"Fizz, fizz, fizz..."
It sounded like an explosion was imminent. The head emitted a tremendous noise and stopped flying toward me, spinning wildly in the air, making my eyes dizzy.
"Bang!"
With a loud crash, the head shattered, exploding into pieces in midair. Wow, this Black Donkey Hoof had such incredible power; it was astonishing to witness.
I went to ask the Dirt Expert about it, but he was clueless about the ancestral techniques passed down through his family.
After dealing with the head, I turned my attention back to Mu Xuanche. He was still engaged in battle with the corpse of the Demon Chancellor. The Demon Chancellor was immensely powerful, while Mu Xuanche moved with grace, meticulously peeling away chunks of flesh from the Demon Chancellor's body and tossing them onto the ground for the Black Rakshasa. It was a terrifying sight.
In the end, the Demon Chancellor remained standing on the ground, reduced to nothing but a skeleton.
Seeing the Black Rakshasa on the ground with its belly and mouth oozing fresh blood, I finally understood why Mu Xuanche had taken so long to deal with the Demon Chancellor; he intended to poison these Black Rakshasas lying on the ground.
All the Black Rakshasas that had eaten the flesh of the Demon Chancellor were dead. The fallen Black Rakshasas were consumed by their companions, creating a cycle of death, until all the Black Rakshasas on the ground were eliminated.
The few of us descended from the coffin, our feet stepping on the bodies of the Black Rakshasas, and the blood that oozed out splattered all over our feet.
Aside from Mu Xuanche, who had been playing with the Demon Chancellor, we gathered around this ancient coffin that had somehow escaped the clutches of the Western Han Emperor. Everyone was aware that its power was not to be underestimated, and we did not dare let our guard down.
Mu Xuanche instructed us to step back as he single-handedly opened the Coffin Lid.
At the moment the Coffin Lid was lifted, a figure inside suddenly stood upright, eyes wide open in shock.
"Corpse Trick," I exclaimed in fright, retreating behind the tall man beside me. Everyone present, except for Mu Xuanche, was startled; I could even feel the tall man's body tense up in front of me.
Mu Xuanche reached in and grasped the neck of the corpse inside the coffin. With a firm grip, there was a crack sound as the corpse slowly fell back into place.
This version of Mu Xuanche felt terrifying to me; he was actually smiling at the corpse.
"Yan Xi, did you bring the key that Liu Qingfeng gave you?" he suddenly asked, nearly catching me off guard.
I paused for a moment. The key from my grandfather's coffin had been hanging around my neck. I didn't know what it was for, but I believed it must have significant importance; otherwise, it wouldn't have been given to me in such a manner.
I stepped forward and pulled the key from around my neck, handing it to Mu Xuanche.
As I stood so close, I realized that the person inside the coffin was holding a box in their hands.
The box appeared to be exquisitely crafted, likely made of bronze. It was hard to believe such delicate craftsmanship existed during the Qin State period.
He inserted my key into the box, and with a click, it opened.
I leaned in for a closer look, and there lay a crystal Heart inside.
Did crystals exist during the Qin State period?
This was impossible; if it were true, it would rewrite the history of the world.
I watched as Mu Xuanche carefully took the Heart from the box, preparing to hold it close.
I quickly reached out to touch it; surprisingly, this Heart felt alive, even beating—this was too terrifying.
Just as I wanted to take another look, Mu Xuanche pulled it away. "This thing is too cold; it's not good to touch it."
"Oh,"
I obediently withdrew my hand, and everyone quickly retreated from the tomb chamber.
As we emerged, the sunlight outside had already risen; we had no idea we had been inside for an entire night.
After staying in the dim environment for too long, my eyes felt particularly uncomfortable when I stepped outside, almost unable to open them.
Mu Xuanche pulled me into his embrace, and after leaning against his chest for a while, I gradually adapted.
"Island Master, it's time to hand over the items," he said.
Hearing the mention of "Island Master," I was momentarily taken aback. It took me a moment to remember that Mu Xuanche was still using the guise of the Island Master.
The voice sounded particularly familiar, and when I looked up from Mu Xuanche's arms, I was stunned to see him.
It was Chuchen. He looked noticeably thinner; I wondered if it was because of the trouble caused by helping me last time with the Cult of Spirits.
He was accompanied by a group of people from the Cult of Spirits, seemingly here specifically to confront us. The Cult of Spirits seemed as sticky as chewing gum.
