The big man seemed particularly familiar with handling such situations. He reached for a remote control nearby.
When he pressed the red Button, a section of the Sea Surface slowly turned red.
A school of silver triangular flags swam toward the area that was turning red. Upon a rough glance, there were about a dozen or twenty sharks approaching.
I asked him, "Big man, what did you do to attract the sharks?"
"This is a mechanism set by the Island Master. In the sea, blood is wrapped in pig intestines. As soon as someone invades the mechanism below, it will rupture the intestines, releasing the blood inside."
Sharks are the rulers of the sea and are particularly intelligent and formidable. They can detect even the slightest hint of blood.
These sharks were carefully selected by the Island Master. Only those without a history of attacking humans were eligible.
"Yan Xi, look! The sharks are starting to perform!"
The big man excitedly handed me his binoculars. It was the first time I saw that kind of murderous excitement in his eyes.
It turned out he wasn't always just a simple and honest person; he simply had different attitudes toward different people.
I didn't know why he treated me so differently, so kindly, that sometimes it even made me feel like he was just a servant.
Taking the binoculars from his hands, I looked toward the Sea Surface.
The nearshore area was no longer just a patch of tide red; now it was completely stained red.
The number of sharks was continuously increasing. Just as I was watching intently, a massive Great White Shark suddenly lifted its head and shook it.
In the air, a severed hand spun around a few times before returning to the shark's mouth. The shark revealed its sharp teeth, tearing into the food alongside its companions.
Four had arrived, and three had already been torn apart. One remained, desperately trying to escape, swimming frantically to the side.
But it was futile; how could its speed compare to that of a giant shark? Before long, it was firmly surrounded by the group, with four or five sharks biting at various parts of its body.
In ancient times, people were torn apart by five horses; here, dozens of sharks feasted on a single corpse.
Jin Ping's face flashed through my mind. If I were to smear her corpse with blood and throw it into the center of this frenzy of sharks, what a horrifying scene that would create!
I couldn't imagine it; perhaps I should put it into practice.
In just a short while, the bodies of those four individuals completely vanished from the Sea Surface.
On the bright red sea surface, only a few floating pieces of black fabric remained, serving as proof that this massacre had truly occurred.
I handed the telescope back to the burly man, and he smiled at me.
"What's so funny?" I asked him.
He grinned wider and replied, "Don't you think it's particularly interesting to deal with those bad guys this way?"
"You're mistaken, big guy."
"Mistaken? Where did I go wrong?"
He scratched his head, looking at me as if he couldn't understand why he was wrong.
"Do you know that sometimes death can be a form of relief? And even after death, a person can exist as a ghost in this world."
Right now, I hated Jin Ping for being a ghost. If she were alive, I would definitely go over and tear her face apart, throwing it into the sea to feed the sharks.
"If you want someone to truly be punished, you must make them wish they were never born."
The cold words bit out of my mouth, each syllable deliberate and powerful.
The burly man stared at me in a daze. "Wishing they were never born... Wow, indeed, a woman's thoughts are more poisonous than a man's."
I smiled faintly, choosing not to respond to him.
I knew this was just the beginning; the disturbances from the Cult of Spirits would continue unabated.
Although I couldn't be sure whether the Cult of Spirits knew I was on the island or if these people were merely testing the truth of my presence here, it was unlikely that they would send just one character otherwise.
Even if they had sent someone personally, I wouldn't have found it strange. After all, they were unaware of my relationship with Mu Xuanche, and what they desired was tied to him.
As a heavily pregnant woman, I was the best bargaining chip they could have.
If it weren't for the fact that I truly had a child inside me, I might have considered becoming a hostage myself, just to see if Mu Xuanche really loved me.
At least I would know one answer. Women can be so foolish in this way, yet unable to stop themselves.
With a bitter smile, I walked back to the wooden house. A tall figure in a black robe—the Island Master—was already standing in the yard, seemingly waiting for me. I had no idea what it was about.
"Island Master, are you looking for me?"
I didn't beat around the bush and asked him directly.
But to my utter surprise, he didn't say a word; instead, he reached out and grabbed me.
A pair of iron hands tightened around my neck, rendering me immobile.
"Island Master, what are you doing?" I gasped, struggling to pry his fingers away while fighting for breath.
If I was going to die, I needed to understand why; I couldn't just be a victim without knowing the truth.
He glared at me, the eyes behind the Mask filled with malice.
"It was Chuchen who helped you get to the island," he said, his voice cold and devoid of any warmth, sending shivers down my spine.
Not daring to lie, I nodded obediently.
"I couldn't find Qilin Island at that time, and I happened to run into Chuchen, so I asked him to help me get here."
Suddenly, he released his grip and pulled me into his embrace.
"Asked him? How did you ask? What did you offer?"
His gaze was filled with disgust and revulsion, a look that made me feel particularly uncomfortable.
I knew where his thoughts had wandered, but what gave him the right to think of me this way? Even if I were to trade my flesh, what did it have to do with him?
His grip tightened around me, and I struggled to say, "Let go. Since the Island Master doesn't welcome me, I'll just leave Qilin Island."
Yet, an aura of chilling coldness radiated from him, and his gaze was as frosty as the ice of a waxy moon, piercing through the air with a cold light. "Leave? Do you think Qilin Island is a place you can come and go as you please?"
I stubbornly retorted, "What do you want then? To kill me?"
Suddenly, it felt as if everyone around me was against me. I had thought that arriving at Qilin Island would mean safety, but I never expected to encounter such a twisted Island Master.
He sneered coldly, tightening his grip on my neck and pushing me to the ground.
"From now on, don't even think about leaving this island."
This demon seemed to have made my visit a self-inflicted torment.
After he finished threatening me and walked away, the burly man finally dared to step forward from the side. He had followed me back when I returned earlier.
However, the Island Master had appeared, though he did not dare to show himself.
He slowly crouched down and helped me up.
"Yan Xi, don't provoke the master. He has a bad temper and doesn't like dealing with the Cult of Spirits. That's why he treated you that way earlier. In truth, the master is quite nice; otherwise, he wouldn't let you live on the island."
I smiled at the big man and nodded, but a hint of bitterness lingered in my heart. When living under someone else's roof, one must bow their head.
No matter how bad the Island Master was, I had to be grateful to him; after all, I was living on his territory.
I waved goodbye to the big man and returned to my wooden house.
I didn't let him in because I needed to think carefully about my future.
Now that I was pregnant and Mu Xuanche no longer wanted me, my parents were nowhere to be found.
Falling into such despair was all my own doing.
If I hadn't destroyed the ritual set up by Liu Qingfeng back then, I would have been a third-year student in college by now.
I truly missed those carefree college days when all I thought about was having fun and studying without a single worry.
It was nothing like now, having experienced everything, even being pregnant.
“Knock, knock, knock,”
The sound of knocking came from the door. I didn't need to guess; it was the big man. The Island Master would never be so polite as to knock. He usually barged in without a second thought.
“Big man, don’t be shy, come in,”
The big man slowly shuffled in, his steps seeming heavy.
His expression was extremely serious, as if something was about to collapse.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him suspiciously.
He mumbled for a while but didn’t manage to say a complete sentence.
I couldn’t even hear clearly what he wanted; this was not like him at all.
He was straightforward and always said what he meant without beating around the bush.
Seeing him like this made me anxious for him.
“Big man, just say it directly. Don’t keep me in suspense!”
He closed his eyes as if making a firm decision and shouted at me,
"Island Master, let me lock you up."
I was momentarily stunned, buzzing in my head.
Was there something wrong with my ears? Did I hear that correctly?
The Island Master actually wanted to imprison me.
"Big guy, are you sure?" I pressed him.
He nodded vigorously in response.
