After seeing what was inside, we filled the pit back in and packed it down firmly.
Pretending nothing had happened, we returned to the living room to drink tea.
Before long, Mu Xuanche came back, followed closely by Jin Ping.
The three of us sat in the living room as if nothing was amiss, chatting and sipping tea.
He walked straight over and sat down beside me, while Jin Ping also unceremoniously tried to take a seat.
However, Shangguan Mingyue dashed over and seized the opportunity first.
Ever since she realized Jin Ping harbored ill intentions towards Mu Xuanche, Shangguan Mingyue had become like a protective hen; whenever Jin Ping appeared, she would puff up in anger.
When Jin Ping attempted to push her away, she pulled Bai Qiling over to glare at him together.
Jin Ping shrank back and took a seat across from us. It seemed he had suffered a loss in their earlier confrontation.
He shot me a resentful glance that made me feel uneasy; I found it amusing how much she hated him yet felt helpless about it.
I provocatively glanced at her before ignoring her completely, letting her fuss as she pleased.
I hooked my arm around Mu Xuanche's and said sweetly, "When are we leaving? I want to go find my master at the Xuan Sect."
"We can leave tomorrow," he replied, catching me off guard; I hadn't expected it to be so soon.
"Everyone, go pack your things," Mu Xuanche commanded, and with that, everyone dispersed.
I brought Mu Xuanche to the broken bridge, and we sat side by side.
There was no need to worry about Jin Ping interrupting us; before leaving, I had already instructed Mingyue to keep an eye on her.
I first told Mu Xuanche about what we discovered beneath the Cellar, including how we opened the coffin and found Jin Ping inside.
"Did you see any talismans on that coffin?" Mu Xuanche asked me.
Talismans.
I carefully recalled the scene from earlier and remembered that when we found the coffin, it was completely empty—there were no talismans at all.
I shook my head, and Mu Xuanche's eyes narrowed dangerously.
Suddenly, he pulled me up.
"Let's go back. No matter what happens, don't look back. Just keep running home, understand?"
His expression was serious, and his voice was particularly low. Was something about to happen?
Otherwise, why would he act this way? It made me feel particularly frightened.
"If there's danger, can I stay with you?"
His dark eyes, always filled with a cold depth, softened slightly. "Hurry."
If there was danger, staying behind would mean leaving Mu Xuanche vulnerable. I understood what that meant.
I dashed out, preparing to return and find help.
But it was already too late.
I had barely taken a few steps when seven or eight men appeared in front of me, making escape impossible.
Catching a glimpse of the swastika on their wrists, I realized they were from the Cult of Spirits.
Understanding the situation, I knew that since I couldn't get away, I had to return and fight alongside Mu Xuanche.
He wrapped an arm around me, looking vigilant.
There were only a dozen or so young men dressed in black; even if they could put up a fight, it shouldn't have made Mu Xuanche appear so tense. I felt an aura of impending danger radiating from him, something I had never seen before.
"Since the leader has arrived, isn't it a bit rude not to show yourself?"
What was Mu Xuanche to the leader?
Could it be that the leader of the Cult of Spirits had come, which was why he was so anxious?
"Hahaha, Xuan Wang, long time no see,"
A deep voice broke the tense atmosphere around us. The row of black-clad figures before us orderly split into two teams.
A man in a black robe stepped out from the middle. Though he was unremarkable in appearance, his presence was incredibly powerful.
I had always imagined the leader of the Cult of Spirits to be an old man in his seventies or eighties, but this one looked like a robust man in his thirties.
At that moment, I felt as if a deity had suddenly appeared before me, and I wished everyone could witness it.
His playful gaze scrutinized me several times; I couldn't tell what he was thinking.
Feeling scrutinized by this man made me uneasy, as if I were being targeted by a wolf, that sensation of being seen as prey.
I stepped back behind Mu Xuanche, trying to escape his gaze.
He let out a cold laugh, seemingly filled with disdain for me.
Slowly, he walked up to Mu Xuanche, and the atmosphere of confrontation reached a peak.
My palms began to sweat; the chill emanating from Mu Xuanche only heightened my anxiety.
"Xuan Wang, you’re looking for Qin Wang's Tomb, and so am I. To find Qin Wang's Tomb, we need to gather six pieces of silk. You have four, but I also have one. Even if you find five pieces, without this one in my possession, you won't be able to locate Qin Wang's Tomb."
The Spirit Sect Leader pulled a piece of silk from his pocket and displayed it before us.
Mu Xuanche, always incredibly arrogant, stared coldly at the Spirit Sect Leader with utter contempt in his tone.
"We could make a bet on whether this piece of silk will ultimately belong to me."
I had expected the leader to be furious, but instead, he appeared calm and composed.
"Very well, I welcome Xuan Wang to come and take it."
A battle that had me on edge ended before it even began.
As I watched the Spirit Sect Leader and his followers vanish from sight, I was momentarily stunned, staring blankly ahead as I spoke.
"They just left like that?"
"What did you expect? A fight? With you here, I can't guarantee absolute victory."
Feeling rejected and burdened, I silently felt a bit choked inside.
Even if he were to pull me home now, I wouldn't feel any joy at all.
Perhaps sensing my anger, Mu Xuanche rarely softened his demeanor.
With his stunningly handsome features, his sculpted face was sharply defined, and those striking features seemed to tempt me directly. He leaned in closer and said, "I'll give you a chance to ask one question."
Although I felt a bit awkward, it was true that my current abilities were not strong enough; that was an undeniable fact.
Initially, I wanted to ask about the Spirit Sect Leader, but then I realized there was something more important. "What is your relationship with Jin Ping?"
He smirked, which made me particularly uncomfortable. What was so funny about mentioning Jin Ping?
I glared at him, urging him to speak quickly.
"It's nothing," he tossed those three words at me before disappearing in an instant.
As long as I got an answer, that was what mattered, right?
Since he said it was nothing, then it must truly be nothing.
I had initially worried that he might have some ancient engagement with Jin Ping from a thousand years ago; that would make me the third wheel, which would be incredibly awkward.
Fortunately, since he claimed it was nothing, I felt a wave of relief wash over me.
With him gone, I returned to my room alone.
As I entered the room, ready to turn on the light, the moment the bulb flickered to life, it suddenly dimmed again. A powerful force yanked me into an impenetrable darkness, where I could see nothing. The eerie surroundings filled me with a deep sense of dread.
In that darkness, various objects began to rush toward me. First, a feather brushed against my neck, sending a wave of tension through me. Then something unknown struck me, causing me to wince in pain.
I took a deep breath and steadied myself, cautiously bracing against the onslaught of whatever was coming my way.
“Ha ha, are you scared?” a man's voice echoed, its tone oddly sinister.
“Jin Ping, stop playing tricks and show yourself. Do you think I wouldn't recognize you just because you changed your voice?”
Just then, something cold wrapped around my neck. I heard a hissing sound near my ear; it was a cold-blooded creature. I had always been fond of Old Snake, so when she placed that thing around my neck, I immediately recognized it as her.
Most girls would have fainted at the sight of a snake, but I wasn't afraid at all. I shouted into the darkness, “You think scaring me with a snake will work? Come out, Jin Ping!”
“Hiss, how did you know it was me?” Her figure slowly emerged before me.
"Because you are the only outsider in this house,"
My words made her so angry that her face twisted in rage as she pointed at me, "You..."
"What do you mean 'you'? You better let me go quickly, or they won't spare you."
Suddenly, she burst into a terrifying laugh, "Ha ha, ha ha ha."
"Let you go? Why should I? I want to kill you instead. You think too highly of yourself if you think I would let you go."
My tone was particularly serious; I couldn't believe Jin Ping had the audacity to think she could kill me in my own home.
"Kill me? Aren't you afraid Mu Xuanche will find out?"
