The scene unfolded like this:
At a square table, I sat beside Mu Xuanche, with Mingyue and Bai Qiling next to me. On the other side of Mu Xuanche was that female ghost, who had the audacity to sit so openly beside him.
"Yan Xi, who is that beautiful female ghost?" Shangguan Mingyue whispered as she tugged at my sleeve, leaning in to ask quietly.
Just hearing the word "beautiful" made me unhappy. I turned to look at her, my lips twitching slightly, and a cold light flickered in my eyes.
"Am I beautiful?"
Startled by my question, Shangguan Mingyue immediately shrank back, looking for Bai Qiling for help. But it seemed she was also afraid of making me angry, so she forced a smile and replied, "Of course! Our Yan Xi is the most beautiful in my heart."
Her words instantly made me feel better, and my gaze softened considerably. At least she knew how to flatter; otherwise, I might have lost my temper and hit her.
"Hey, hey, hey! This table is so big; why are we all huddled together? Can't we spread out a bit?"
As soon as I spoke, Shangguan Mingyue understood and quickly moved with Bai Qiling to sit across from us.
Now both of our gazes were fixed on the one they called Golden Flat Ghost, waiting for her reaction. To our surprise, she didn’t even glance our way; her eyes were glued to Mu Xuanche, unwavering and intent.
Now even Shangguan Mingyue, the emotional idiot, has noticed it. Her gaze towards me has turned to annoyance. Before I could say anything, she spoke for me.
"That unknown female ghost, why do you have to stick so close to Mu Xuanche? There are so many seats; don't you mind being cramped?"
The female ghost didn't even spare a glance at Shangguan Mingyue and spoke to Mingyue over her shoulder.
"I grant you special permission to call me Jin Ping. Why can't I sit close to Xuan Wang? Isn't that woman also sitting next to Xuan Wang?"
That woman she referred to is me. I initially wanted to intervene, but Shangguan Mingyue gave me a calming look.
She continued to spar with Jin Ping, "My dear Jin Ping, they are a couple, of course they should sit together. Not only do they sit together, but they also sleep together!"
In an instant, Jin Ping's face darkened. She turned to Shangguan Mingyue and shouted, "You, audacious!"
Shangguan Mingyue was not one to back down either. She turned around and threw herself into Bai Qiling's arms, saying, "Oh, I'm so scared!"
Bai Qiling seemed more than happy to play along, pulling Shangguan Mingyue up. "Come on, let's go for a walk. This place is filled with dust; it's really uncomfortable."
Everyone present could hear the disdain in her words directed at Jin Ping, who was covered in dirt from her ancient attire.
Dressed in ancient clothes from a thousand years ago, Jin Ping was so furious that she couldn't muster a single retort.
As the scene was about to reach its climax, how could I not step in to wrap things up?
I pulled Mu Xuanche to stand up and deliberately softened my voice. "Honey, I'm tired. Let's go upstairs and rest for a bit."
I fixed my gaze on Mu Xuanche; if he dared to undermine me now, I would make him pay.
Fortunately, this guy was perceptive enough and took my hand as we headed upstairs.
Jin Ping was trying to catch up when she was suddenly grabbed by Shangguan Mingyue. Furious and embarrassed, she wanted to hit Shangguan Mingyue, but how could Bai Qiling just stand by and watch? With two against one, they felt confident enough to deal with Shangguan Mingyue. Let them have their fun.
As soon as they entered the room, Mu Xuanche was forcefully pinned against the wall by me. I didn’t need a mirror to know how serious my expression was as I stared into his eyes, forcing him to meet my gaze. "What’s this all about?"
He wrapped his arms around my waist and nudged me slightly, his dark eyes fixed on mine, a wicked smile playing on his lips as he whispered, "What does Wife want from Husband?"
I could sense his determination, which left me momentarily speechless. Even though I knew he was deliberately avoiding the topic, I found myself sinking deeper into the situation.
I pounded my fists on his shoulders, my face flushed as I muttered under my breath, "You damned bastard, let go of me!"
"Wife, you’re the one who pulled me in. Now you want me to let go? Isn’t that like burning bridges after crossing them?"
He was quite the expert at flirting. My amateurish skills were no match for him.
Suddenly, I felt a force against my stomach, causing me to flinch slightly while he trembled in response.
"Did you feel that?" I asked him in surprise.
He smiled and nodded at me, his expression softening considerably as he gently placed his large hand on my belly.
Five months had passed, and my belly hadn’t grown at all. I had thought that inside me was just a soul without life.
But this little kick—how it filled me with joy!
He was moving; he was really moving.
I could feel the existence of life, feel his presence.
"The little guy is protesting while I'm bullying his mother," Mu Xuanche whispered in my ear, his voice laced with tenderness that I could sense.
As I rubbed my belly and stared at him, I said, "Now I have backup. If you dare to bully me, the two of us will team up to take you down. Are you scared?"
He didn’t respond. Instead, he reached out and picked me up effortlessly, placing me on the bed.
I asked him, "Aren't you supposed to find out who was in the house to understand why my parents left? Now that Jin Ping is out, when are we going to ask her?"
"No need to ask. Your parents weren't driven away by her."
"What do you mean they weren't driven away by her?"
"Because Jin Ping's abilities aren't enough to deal with Liu Qingfeng."
He covered my mouth with his hand, signaling me to stay quiet.
Seeing his serious expression, I nodded to indicate that I wouldn’t speak.
He held me tightly and then deliberately raised his voice, "Get some sleep."
"Okay," I replied, wrapping my arms around him and closing my eyes.
But I couldn't sleep; various thoughts kept racing through my mind.
After about five minutes, he patted my shoulder, signaling me to open my eyes.
He turned around, dipped his finger into a cup to moisten it, and began writing on the wall.
Tonight, I'll distract everyone in the house while you take Shangguan Mingyue to the cellar and dig underground to see if there's anything there.
Once I understood what he had written, I nodded obediently.
Perhaps Mu Xuanche had his reasons for leaving Jin Ping behind; it was best not to disturb his plans for now. I just needed to follow his instructions.
That night, when darkness fell, Mu Xuanche left my house.
Jin Ping also vanished without a trace. I waited for a while after they left before pulling Mingyue to the cellar.
"Yan Xi, why did you bring us here?"
I tossed two shovels to them. "No time for chatter; start digging."
"Is there a treasure hidden under your house?"
Shangguan Mingyue looked at me with a playful grin.
"Yes, there's treasure hidden here. Hurry up and help me dig. If we find it, I'll give you half,"
After Shangguan Mingyue worked hard digging, she didn't forget to drag Bai Qiling into the mess, forcing him to join in.
About half an hour later, the pit was already half a meter deep.
When I struck down with the shovel, I clearly sensed something was off.
Could it be that Mu Xuanche wanted me to find something? I glanced at the two of them and urged them to hurry.
Something was coming out from below, but no one expected it to be a golden coffin.
Even Bai Qiling was stunned.
"Yan Xi, how come there's this thing buried under your Cellar?" Mingyue asked me.
How would I know? This Cellar was already here before I was born. There could be things inside that even my parents didn't know about.
The coffin looked increasingly suspicious, painted all over in gold; it was obviously a wealthy person's coffin.
I originally planned to go down and push the coffin open for a look, but Mingyue stopped me.
"Yan Xi, it's too dangerous for you to go down there. Let him do it," she said, pointing at Bai Qiling.
It was best if I didn't have to take action myself. I looked at Bai Qiling with a smile on my face. "Thanks for your hard work."
Bai Qiling jumped into the pit and used the shovel to pry open the Coffin Lid.
After taking a look inside, he muttered to himself, "So it's her."
He said this, and both I and Shangguan Mingyue became even more curious.
We jumped into the pit together and leaned in for a closer look.
Inside the coffin lay a lifelike ancient beauty. If it weren't for her closed eyes and the deathly pale expression devoid of life, one would think she was merely asleep. No one would believe she was a person who had been dead for a thousand years.
To everyone's astonishment, the woman lying in the coffin was actually Jin Ping.
How could her coffin be in my home?
