According to Sister Zhang's address, Shangguan Mingyue and I found the mansion of the wealthy businessman located in H City.
It was indeed a beautiful place, nestled in the best villa area of H City, with enough distance between each house to take a leisurely stroll. No wonder Master Cao chose to have the businessman live here.
Standing at the entrance and looking at the towering walls, I felt a bit troubled.
"Mingyue, do you have any way to get in?"
"What can I do? We're not related to this family at all. If we force our way in, it would be trespassing. This is a society governed by law; we could get arrested."
Mingyue made a valid point, but knowing the location and not going in felt like giving up.
After some discussion, we decided to wait outside and see if anyone would come out eventually.
"Yan Xi, we've been waiting here for a while and haven't seen anyone come out. Shouldn't we leave?"
We had been hiding in the bushes outside for quite some time without spotting anyone. My body was covered in bites, and Shangguan Mingyue was already suggesting giving up. I felt like I was starting to lose my resolve as well.
"Mingyue, how about we wait a little longer? If no one comes out by dark, we'll leave."
She gritted her teeth, shot me a determined look, and nodded.
After waiting another two or three minutes, just as we were getting impatient and preparing to stand up, the front door of that house finally opened.
A black sedan rolled out, its windows tightly shut, making it impossible to see who was inside.
"Yan Xi, should we chase it?"
"How can we chase it? They have four wheels and gasoline; we only have our two legs. There's no way we can catch up."
She began to feel a bit troubled, covering her face. "What are you going to do then?"
I had a sudden idea and said to her, "I have a plan."
I unfolded the Paper Man and let it stick to the trunk of that car, so we could track where it went.
The reason I didn't let Bao enter the villa earlier was that it was too dangerous; I was afraid something might happen to him.
After he had placed the Paper Man, Shangguan Mingyue and I ran down the mountain and hopped into a taxi.
The driver turned around and said to us, "Where to, ladies?"
Shangguan Mingyue looked confused and nudged me. "Where are we going?"
I sat cross-legged, closed my eyes, and spoke in a low voice. "Just go straight ahead."
Shangguan Mingyue shouted at the driver, "Driver, just drive however you want. We'll pay you double!"
Throughout the ride, I kept my eyes closed, sensing the presence of the Paper Man. After about half an hour, I asked the driver to stop.
The way the driver looked at me felt strange, leaving me with an odd impression. It wasn't until we got out of the car that I understood why he seemed so peculiar.
We had gotten off at H City's famous red-light district. It seemed the driver had mistaken us for working girls.
"Yan Xi, is your method reliable?"
To be honest, I didn't know either. This was only the second time I had used the Paper Man technique. I couldn't guarantee anything; I really didn't dare to.
"Let's go check the parking lot. If we can find that car, it will be a piece of cake,"
Following the clues given by Paper Man, we found the car in the VIP parking area on the second floor. We quickly removed Paper Man from the vehicle to avoid being discovered.
"Yan Xi, now that we know we're in this building, how should we search? Should we go floor by floor?"
"Let's take a look upstairs first,"
There were three nightclubs on the upper floors, and we chose to head to the top one.
Indeed, the territory of the wealthy was something else; the decor was extravagantly opulent, sparkling like stars.
Compared to this place, Wanhui was simply incomparable.
Just as we were about to enter, a well-dressed waiter stopped us at the door.
"Excuse me, ladies, who are you looking for?"
Shangguan Mingyue shot him a glance, looking quite mature for her age. "We're here to have some fun; who else would we be looking for? You?"
I thought the waiter would feel embarrassed; after all, being teased like that in front of so many people would have made me blush and want to hide.
But he maintained a professional demeanor and politely blocked our way. "I'm sorry, ladies, but this is a private club. You can't enter without an invitation from our client manager."
With no choice but to leave, I was surprised to learn it was a private club.
"Mingyue, could this be the place?"
She wore a mysterious expression. "Based on my years of experience wandering the world, that bastard Master Cao is probably right in here," she said.
"How about we sneak in from the back and pretend to be waitstaff or something?" I suggested, only to be mocked by Shangguan Mingyue for watching too many movies and being foolish.
In the end, we decided to stake out in the parking lot for that guy. Just as we were about to head downstairs, someone stepped out of the elevator. He was tall and impeccably dressed in a suit, making me stare at him in awe.
"Yan Xi, you have a family; keep your eyes to yourself. No wandering eyes allowed," Shangguan Mingyue teased.
Ignoring her playful banter, I dashed forward and grabbed the shadowy figure. He seemed startled by my sudden approach.
"Big guy, what are you doing here?" I exclaimed with surprise, not expecting to run into the big man from Qilin Island.
"It's you, Gu Yanxi," he replied, his tone filled with astonishment as well.
Seeing a familiar face, Shangguan Mingyue rushed over. "Yan Xi, hurry and have your friend take us inside!"
"Big guy, can you take us in?" I asked.
He looked at me with suspicion but eventually agreed.
As we reached the entrance, the waiter who had been eyeing us was about to approach when the man in black beside the big guy shot him a glance. The waiter respectfully stepped back.
No one could have imagined that a drifter on a deserted island could transform into someone like Big Boss. Watching the respect the people around him showed towards the man, I couldn't help but become curious about the identity of the Island Master.
I wondered what would happen if he were to arrive, and whether the Island Master would make an appearance today.
When he left initially, the man had specifically instructed that matters concerning Qilin Island should not be disclosed to outsiders. So when Mingyue asked me earlier, I had skillfully evaded the question, ensuring she remained unaware of the man's true identity.
Once we entered the private room, the man instructed everyone to leave, leaving just the three of us inside.
"Sister Gu, can you tell me why you came here?" he asked.
"We're looking for someone. Do you recognize this license plate?" I replied.
I knew that in wealthy circles, license plates were symbols of status. When I went to get the talisman earlier, I had made sure to take a picture of the license plate.
The man took my phone, glanced at it, and then called someone in from outside.
He instructed that person, "Find out whose license plate this is."
"Sister Gu, how have you been lately?" he continued.
I chuckled lightly and responded, "Pretty good."
"By the way, how did you end up in H City? I was planning to visit you when I had some free time," I added.
"Sister Gu, you needn't worry. The master sent me here to handle some matters," he said.
As the words of the burly man fell, there was a knock on the door of the private room.
"Come in," he said.
It was the black-clad man who had just left. He stood respectfully before the burly man and reported, "Boss, we have found out that it is the car of Jin Chengren, the president of the Golden Family Chamber of Commerce. He is also inside the club tonight, in Room 088."
Shangguan Mingyue and I exchanged glances, feeling a surge of joy. We hadn't expected such quick results; it was nothing like our efforts, which had yielded no results at all.
I briefly explained the situation to the burly man. He instructed his people to prepare two sets of waiter uniforms for us, so we could disguise ourselves as waiters and go in to take a look.
To my surprise, this burly man was actually the boss of this establishment; it was owned by the Island Master.
He warned me not to act recklessly and to observe first; otherwise, he would not help me.
It was good enough to be able to take a look. I agreed and changed into the uniform, disguising myself as a waiter to follow him inside.
Shangguan Mingyue pushed a cart while I arranged the dishes.
"Hello, I'm here to deliver some food," I said as we entered.
Once inside, we found a crowd of men and women—about ten people in total—and it was impossible to tell who Master Cao was among them.
Shangguan Mingyue and I deliberately took our time, almost getting complained about. Just as we were about to leave, we overheard some news.
One man said, "Why hasn't the Great Master come out of the restroom yet? He can't be passed out, can he?"
"That won't happen. I'll go pull him out," another replied.
It turned out he was just going to the restroom. I absolutely couldn't miss such a rare opportunity, so I deliberately knocked the plate in my hand to the ground.
Although it earned me a round of scolding, it bought me some time.
While cleaning up the mess, I kept an eye on the restroom door.
With a "click," the sound of the lock being released reached my ears. I temporarily set aside my work and glanced sideways at the restroom door.
The door swung open, revealing a man dressed in a long robe.
When I saw his face, I was shocked. I believed that Shangguan Mingyue beside me was equally startled.
I never expected it to be him.
