H City First High School is located in the heart of the city, surrounded by well-developed transportation.
We came here because of a strange incident that occurred at this school.
Three female students had died one after another, each by jumping from the building.
The time between each incident was no more than a week. If this news spreads, it would not only affect the students preparing for their college entrance exams but also throw the entire school into chaos. After years of hard work, these diligent students would be left heartbroken. No wonder my mentor was so eager to send me on this mission; it turned out that something had happened to the children at the school.
The person sent to meet us was Principal Chen. The impact of this situation was too great for anyone else to handle; the principal himself had to step in.
As we arrived at the middle school in H City, I looked at the large gate before me and felt a sense of unease.
Noticing that I had been standing at the entrance for a while, Principal Chen remained calm, but Shangguan Mingyue seemed a bit impatient.
She leaned closer and gently tugged at my sleeve, whispering, "What are you staring at? Aren't we supposed to go into the campus?"
I turned to Principal Chen and asked, "Principal Chen, this school's layout must have been guided by an expert, right?"
Principal Chen gave me a thumbs up and gestured enthusiastically, "Indeed, a talented student comes from a great teacher. I was initially wondering why the master didn't come himself. But after your comment, I am completely convinced; this school's design was indeed determined by a feng shui master."
"Are you sure it's an expert?"
My words caused Principal Chen's expression to change.
“Gu Daxian, what do you mean by this?”
The ability to read feng shui was something I had picked up from books. Although I sensed something was off about this feng shui, I didn’t dare to speak out.
I shook my head at Principal Chen and said, “It’s nothing. Please take us to the scene of the incident first.”
Under his guidance, we arrived at the haunted dormitory he mentioned, standing on the floor where the two girls who had committed suicide lived.
Perhaps it was due to the lack of sunlight, or maybe because there weren’t many students living on this floor, but the entire level felt gloomy. Principal Chen seemed a bit frightened, closely following behind us without saying a word.
“Is it this one?”
Shangguan Mingyue pointed at the door marked Room 509 and asked Principal Chen.
A cold breeze swept through the corridor, causing Principal Chen, who was about to respond, to shrink back in fright.
Now there was no need for Principal Chen to answer; just looking at his reaction told us everything we needed to know. I reached out and turned the doorknob, stepping inside.
The room appeared somewhat messy, with a musty smell hitting me immediately. It seemed like no one had lived here for quite some time. Judging by the disarray of the bed and the items scattered on the desk, it looked like the girl had left in a hurry.
Shangguan Mingyue held a compass, turning it around while I tried to sense the Yin Qi in the room but found nothing at all.
Principal Chen stood at the door waiting for us, looking somewhat anxious as the light gradually faded. She began to show signs of fear.
"Great Masters, if there is no result today, we can come back tomorrow," she urged.
Shangguan Mingyue and I exchanged glances, confirming that we hadn’t discovered anything. With Principal Chen pressing us further, we decided to leave for now.
After checking into the hotel arranged by Principal Chen, we planned to investigate the school thoroughly the next day, so we went to bed early.
Suddenly, a series of urgent ringing filled the room.
I was a light sleeper and was startled awake by the unexpected noise. Grabbing the phone beside me without even checking who was calling, I answered.
"Hello?"
On the other end, a panicked voice shouted, "Gu Daxian, you need to come quickly! Another female student committed suicide last night!"
The loud shout jolted me upright in shock.
"Okay, I'll be there right away. Send me the address on my phone."
After hanging up, I realized what had happened and quickly woke up Shangguan Mingyue before rushing to Principal Chen's location.
When we arrived at Principal Chen's place, the scene had already been cordoned off by the police.
Through Principal Chen's communication, we were finally allowed to enter the scene. Even before stepping into the dormitory, a strong smell of blood hit us. How much blood would it take to create such a heavy scent?
I struggled to suppress my churning stomach, fighting the urge to vomit.
As we entered the crime scene, I saw a woman lying on the floor, her body pale and lifeless.
She was covered in blood, lying on the bathroom floor, surrounded by a pool of it...
My eyes reddened at the sight, and I rushed to the side, gagging.
The deceased was named Liu Lili, a sixteen-year-old first-year student at First High School.
Her body was discovered in the bathroom by her roommates; no one had expected she would take her own life.
To understand the situation better, I asked Principal Chen to take me to meet Liu Lili's roommates.
There were four girls living in the dormitory, and now with Liu Lili gone, only three remained.
The three girls stood before me, huddled together, visibly tense. Some looked around helplessly, their eyes filled with terror.
I casually asked, "Which of you saw Liu Lili last?"
The two girls on either side shook their heads immediately, while the one in the middle lowered her head and remained silent.
I could roughly guess what was happening as I stood in front of the silent girl.
Perhaps due to overwhelming nervousness, as soon as I approached, she began to sob quietly.
"Are you afraid of dying?"
The moment my words fell, she let out a loud wail.
Time was pressing, and I couldn't afford to cater to her emotions any longer; I had to address the problem directly.
"If you're afraid of dying, then answer my question. This is the only way you can save yourself."
My threat had an effect; the girl immediately stopped crying and grasped my hand, pleading, "You have to help me."
The female student nodded obediently. After taking a deep breath, she spoke up, "I got up in the middle of the night last night and saw Liu Lili on the balcony making a phone call. It was around three in the morning. I was too sleepy to pay much attention and just went back to bed."
Shangguan Mingyue leaned closer to my ear and said, "I just overheard the police over there; that girl died at three in the morning."
It seemed that to understand how this girl died and what she had experienced before her death, we needed to investigate that phone call.
I relayed this information to Principal Chen, who then passed it on to the police.
The response we received was that her phone had mysteriously disappeared, and no one knew its whereabouts.
It seemed that this line had broken again.
As I lowered my head in thought, a girl at the edge suddenly approached and tugged at the hem of my clothes.
"Great Master, there's something I don't know whether to say or not."
Feeling somewhat annoyed, I nodded for her to continue.
"Great Master, I know Liu Lili was quite close to Chen Sang a while ago. I wonder if there’s any connection."
Chen Sang?
I repeated the name in my mind several times. It sounded somewhat familiar, and the more I thought about it, the more it rang a bell.
"Mingyue, who is Chen Sang?"
Shangguan Mingyue was examining the information on the deceased girls—there were four of them, filling several pages of A4 paper. Without turning her head, she replied, "Chen Sang? Isn’t she the first girl who died?"
I slapped my forehead hard. Cursing myself, I thought, "What a pig-headed brain I have."
I stood up and pulled Mingyue back as we walked.
"Yan Xi, what are you doing? I haven't finished looking at the materials yet."
I ignored her and just pulled her hand, running wildly.
Finally, we stopped at Dormitory 509.
This dormitory had been vacated due to Chen Sang's death, and Principal Chen had given us the key last time.
"This is why you called me here?"
"Yes, that's it."
Shangguan Mingyue shook off my hand. She glared at me and said, "Come on, Gu Yanxi, are you messing with me? We already checked this place last time; there was nothing inside."
"Last time there was nothing, but what if there's something this time? Come on, let's go in and take a look since we're already here."
Shangguan Mingyue couldn't resist me and was pulled into the dormitory.
After searching for a while, we still found nothing.
She wanted to leave, but I stopped her and dragged her under the bed.
"Yan Xi, what are you doing? It's so dirty under this bed; why are we going in here?"
I handed her the Invisibility Talisman Paper that I had received from my senior, instructing her to place it on herself as he had taught me last time.
She looked at me suspiciously and said, "Are you sure?"
I nodded, and she crawled under the bed, lying down next to me in perfect sync.
