But just as I was about to rush out, I caught the man's gaze.
He was pleading with me.
It was clear he was trying to help me, yet he looked at me with a desperate expression, begging me not to go out.
My hand, which was about to push aside the wooden board, fell helplessly at his gaze.
"Ah,"
a scream escaped the man's lips.
His bloody thumb rolled aside, blood splattering everywhere, accompanied by Shangguan Zili's maniacal laughter.
"Demoness, you damn Demoness, I will make you wish you were dead,"
the man cursed loudly, and I could see beads of sweat rolling down his face.
How excruciating it must be to have a thumb severed; my heart ached so much I could hardly breathe. Tears streamed down my face like pearls from a broken string.
I put my hand in my mouth, afraid to let out a sound. If I were discovered, that finger would have been sacrificed for nothing.
Shangguan Zili's venomous voice rang out again.
"Dare to curse at me? I'll cut off another one."
Another thumb. I felt that if I endured any longer, I might die. I had to lift the board and rush out.
But the wooden board that he had lifted so easily before now felt as if it were sealed shut, unmoving.

The man walked up to the Mysterious Island Master and showed him his two severed fingers.
Such a big man was actually crying. Seeing this scene made my heart ache.
The Mysterious Island Master looked down for a moment and then reached out to pat the man's head in comfort.
Afterward, the Island Master glanced at the boy who had attacked, simply staring at him for a few moments.
The boy then fell to the ground foaming at the mouth, clutching his neck with both hands, his face twisted in agony, displaying an expression of extreme pain.
He collapsed to the ground, desperately kicking his legs forward. In less than a minute, the hands that had been gripping his neck loosened weakly.
The tense heartbeat and steady breathing of dozens of people were unusually clear in the eerie silence.
I peered through the gap and saw Shangguan Zili's fingers beginning to tremble slightly.
The boy on the ground was a warning example set by Island Master for Shangguan Zili, and it was evident she understood.
Kneeling on one leg, she directed her words towards Island Master: "Forgive my boldness, Qilin Island Master, but our leader instructed us to search for someone. I would appreciate your cooperation."
Island Master waved a hand, and Shangguan Zili, kneeling on the ground, was thrown aside.
Her chin instantly swelled up, resembling a large red bun hanging there.
She attempted to rise, but upon receiving a glance from Island Master, she fell back down.
Island Master's dark gaze grew increasingly sharp as he lowered his eyes and spoke softly, "Did I give you permission to speak?"
Shangguan Zili dared not respond. Island Master reached out and grasped the hand of the man whose blood was dripping continuously. When Island Master released his grip, the wound ceased to bleed.
Island Master glanced at the man, who turned to pick up the knife he had used to cut his own finger.
As he crouched down, he shot me a smug look, completely unfazed by the severed digit.
The man approached the nearest disciple, and in an instant, the knife rose and fell.
The disciple's hand, marked with a "卍", dropped to the ground.
Blood splattered across the man's face; though he looked somewhat ferocious, witnessing this scene brought me immense satisfaction.
Seeing her subordinates with severed hands, Shangguan Zili could no longer sit still.
She propped herself up and said, "Qilin Island Master, don't go too far," though her voice lacked conviction.
The Island Master merely waved her hand, condensing her aura into a grip that caught Shangguan Zili in its hold.
I was utterly stunned by this scene; what exactly was the Qilin Island Master? She was incredibly powerful.
Although Shangguan Zili was fierce, I had some understanding of her abilities after facing her a few times. In a real fight, I would definitely not be her match.
In front of the Qilin Island Master, she was like a chicken, easily lifted.
Shangguan Zili's eyes began to roll back, her consciousness seemingly fading. Was she really going to die like this?
After all the evil deeds she had committed over the millennia, it shouldn't be that simple.
Just as it seemed she was about to perish, a flash of red rushed in.
Attempting to rescue Shangguan Zili, Chuchen lunged forward but was deftly avoided by the Island Master, missing entirely.
The crimson figure was unmistakably Chuchen.

"Island Master, could you do me a favor and hand her over to me?"
The Qilin Island Master glanced at Chuchen and smirked, "What makes you think you can ask for a favor?"
I noticed a slight change in Chuchen's expression; his long hands were tightly clenched at his sides, and it seemed that a fierce battle was about to erupt.
I was somewhat worried that Chuchen might get hurt. After all, he had saved me once again, and I felt indebted to him.
The Island Master tightened his grip, and Shangguan Zili let out an astonishing scream.
In the Island Master's territory, Chuchen had no way out.
He presented a box to the Island Master and said, "This is a gift from the leader for you. Is this acceptable?"
In an instant, the Island Master withdrew his hand and threw Shangguan Zili to the ground.
With that fall, Shangguan Zili was left incapacitated, writhing in pain.
I was astonished; what treasure could be in that box that would tempt the Qilin Island Master enough to let go of the rampaging Shangguan Zili? This Island Master did not seem like someone who could be easily swayed.
The Island Master accepted the box with a wave of his hand, and then Chuchen led everyone away.
Once I confirmed that everyone had left, I tried pushing against the wooden board, and it surprisingly moved aside easily.
It seemed that all those strange occurrences earlier were caused by the Island Master; otherwise, how could I have inexplicably lost my voice?
I rushed over and grabbed the man's hand, tears blurring my vision as I said, "I'm sorry. It's all my fault."
The man looked timid and quickly withdrew his hand, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
The Qilin Island Master glanced at him before turning to enter the room.
Understanding the cue, the man hurriedly picked up two thumbs from the ground and walked toward the room.
I originally wanted to go in as well, but when I reached the door, the man suddenly closed it, blocking me outside.
I waited at the entrance, and as darkness fell, no one came out.
With no other choice, I knocked on the door.
After I tapped it lightly, the door opened.
It was the man.
He held up both hands in front of me.
It was truly amazing; both thumbs had been reattached. I twisted his fingers back and forth and asked, "Does it still hurt?"
The man grinned at me, his face sincere. "It doesn't hurt. My master fixed it."
"Your master is really good to you."
My compliment made the man quite pleased, and he invited me inside for dinner.
At the dining table, I thanked him. If it weren't for him, I might have been captured and lost my life.
"What about the Island Master?" I asked him.
The man shook his head. "No can do."
"Everything about the Island Master is off-limits, right?"
He nodded. His loyalty to the Island Master was evident; whatever the Island Master commanded, he would undoubtedly follow. I wanted to ask more but couldn't get any answers.
"The Island Master has decided to let you leave the island; it is no longer safe here."
The man suddenly said this, and I was taken aback, unable to respond for a moment.
Thinking about it, it made sense. The Jinling Sect had come to cause trouble, and as long as I remained here, they would surely come.
This Island Master must have secluded himself here seeking peace and quiet. It wouldn't be right for me to disturb his tranquility.
That night, after dinner, the man still insisted that I go to bed.
However, tonight he did not bring the flower pot inside. It must have been the Island Master's orders; there was no longer a need for me to inhale those calming flowers.
If I had known what the night ahead held, I would have preferred that he bring the flower pot in.
