The man seemed taken aback that I could stand up. In that moment of distraction, I snatched the treasure back and tossed aside the talisman on top of it.
When he regained his composure, his white coat had transformed into a long black robe.
His eyes resembled those of a brutal, greedy wolf as he tilted his head and grinned at me, charging forward.
I clutched the treasure in one arm and the gourd in the other as I ran.
He grabbed my clothes with one hand, and in defense of my child, I turned and kicked him squarely in the groin.
He staggered back a step and released his grip on me, giving me a chance to escape.
Damn it, the door was locked again.
I grabbed something nearby and began to pound on the door frantically.
Just as I struck once, someone yanked my hair from behind.
The sharp pain tugging at my scalp caused me to fall to the ground, and the man dragged me backward.
He pulled me from the doorway to the bedside, binding me to the bed. He picked up a syringe and drew liquid from a vial.
Pinching my mouth with his thumb and forefinger, he forced me to look him in the eye.
With raised eyebrows and a fierce glare, he wore an expression full of menace. "I originally wanted you to have a good life, but you brought this upon yourself. Don't blame me for your suffering."
"Please, let me go. Don't hurt my child. I'm begging you," I cried out.
My pleas and tears only seemed to delight the man further.
His smile was devilish as he slapped me across the face, silencing me.
"Ah,"
The pain in my hand made me scream as the demon plunged the needle into my wrist, forcing me to watch as the syringe slowly injected its contents into my hand.
In that moment of desperation,
Suddenly...
"Bang!"
The door to the hospital room was kicked open. A man in a pure black shirt and black pants rushed to my side with dark eyes.
With a swift motion, he sent the man who had been pressing down on me crashing into a corner. He looked down coldly at the man on the floor.
"Looking for death?"
The words came out like ice from a frozen cave, causing the man on the ground to visibly shudder. He tried to escape but was grabbed by Mu Xuanche and slammed back onto the floor. The man immediately spat out blood, lying there unable to get up.
It was clear that Mu Xuanche intended to kill him, but I stopped him.
I was already entangled in a murder case and didn’t want Mu Xuanche to get involved as well. I urged him to stop.
"Let’s hand him over to the police. Master won’t let him off easily."
I looked at the nearly half-dead man on the ground and spoke to Mu Xuanche. Master always protected his own; if he knew this man had harmed me, he certainly wouldn’t let him go unpunished.
Mu Xuanche smirked slightly, walked over, and struck a few pressure points on the man's head before tossing him out of the hospital room.
"What did you do to him?" I asked Mu Xuanche.
"You're just letting him live a little longer,"
I had originally wanted to say something to Mu Xuanche, but a sudden sharp pain shot through my abdomen, causing me to curl up in agony.
I reached out and grabbed Mu Xuanche, struggling to say, "Help me, the baby is in danger."
Mu Xuanche's expression turned cold, his brows furrowing tightly as he rushed over to hold me, placing his hand on my pulse.
Then he laid his large hand on my belly, and slowly I felt a cold stream of energy flowing through me, easing the pain.
With newfound strength, I looked up at Mu Xuanche and asked, "Is my baby okay?"
Without hesitation, Mu Xuanche boasted, "My offspring is definitely strong."
I had no time to argue with him; instead, I picked up the child beside me and looked at the little one, who was dark and tear-streaked.
"Mu Xuanche, please save the baby. He did this to protect our child."
He took the child from my hands and placed him in a gourd, giving me a reassuring look.
"Don't worry; I promise to return you a complete baby in a bit."
With his assurance, I felt at ease. I believed he could do it.
Once everything calmed down, I noticed something different about Mu Xuanche.
Today, he wasn't dressed in his usual black robes; instead, he wore a shirt and trousers like an ordinary person.
Most importantly, his body looked different from before. Previously, he had an ethereal quality about him; now he seemed just like anyone else.
This surprised me as I exclaimed, "Mu Xuanche, have you regained your physical form?"
He nodded, and I excitedly said, "So are you Revival now?"
"No, regaining my physical form is just the first step," he replied.
He reached out and gently laid me down on the bed, covering me with the blanket. His voice was particularly soft as he calmly said, "You were too tense just now and almost caused a miscarriage. Don't think too much right now; just rest."
Thinking of the child, I recalled Zhang Xiaoqian's words. He must be worried about the baby. Although the child is important, I felt uncomfortable inside.
I am not the kind of person who can endure this, nor can I hold back my words.
As he turned to leave, I grabbed his hand tightly.
"Wait."
He paused and turned back to look at me, a hint of confusion in his brow.
I felt a bit nervous, my Heart racing. I was afraid that once I asked, there would be no turning back. But if I didn't ask, I would surely suffocate myself.
He slightly lowered his head, his lips brushing against my forehead as he slowly smoothed out the furrow between my brows.
In a magnetic voice, he whispered in my ear, "Wife, what's wrong?"
"Who would you choose between the child in my womb and me?"
I finally spoke up. I hated myself a little for asking, but I wanted to know his answer more than anything.
He looked at me coldly and said, "Why do you need to choose?"
Why do we need to choose?
His words made me feel as if there was no choice for me and the child.
My heart sank, and the words I had intended to say vanished before they could escape my lips.
"What’s wrong with you?"
Mu Xuanche asked patiently, but I had no desire to respond.
I shook my head, ignoring him.
This time, however, he became stubborn, turning my body to force me to look him in the eye.
"What is going on? Just say it."
I was holding back my emotions, and with all the recent blows I had faced, I glared at Mu Xuanche and shouted, "I just want to get rid of this child! I want to terminate the pregnancy, is that okay?"
As soon as the words left my mouth, regret washed over me, and I couldn’t even bear to look at Mu Xuanche.
"Give me a reason."
"What?" His sudden question caught me off guard; I didn’t understand what he meant.
He repeated patiently, "Give me a reason why you want to terminate the pregnancy."
I nearly screamed in frustration at Mu Xuanche, "I want to live! If I don’t get rid of this child, I can’t survive!"
The room fell silent. The sudden stillness sent a chill through me, and goosebumps rose on my skin.
I instinctively wrapped my arms around myself, curling up in the corner.
Then I heard a heavy sigh escape his lips.
"Ah,"
Then came the familiar scent of Mu Xuanche, rushing towards me. He climbed onto the bed, wrapped his arms around me, and whispered in my ear,
"Why don't you want to believe me?"
Realizing that there was something wrong with Mu Xuanche's words, I turned to face him, my eyes red.
"What do you mean?"
"Do you think I would let you die for the sake of the child?"
Mu Xuanche looked at me, his expression extremely serious. I felt a bit scared and didn't dare to answer his question. I stammered, "But... but Zhang Xiaoqian told me that when a child is born, the mother dies." My voice trailed off to a whisper, barely audible like a mosquito's buzz, but I knew Mu Xuanche heard me.
Because he reached out and pinched my chin, speaking fiercely, "You listen to others' nonsense too much. Do you think I would give you half of my Primordial Spirit for nothing? If I can't even protect my own wife, why would I want a child?"
"But my master doesn't allow me to have children either. He even made me drink White Fungus Soup back then," I retorted, lifting my head.
"That's because your master doesn't know what I've put into this half of my Primordial Spirit, so he's worried about you."
Curiously, I asked, "What did you put in there?"
"You'll know when it's time for you to know."
There it was again—this phrase made me feel a bit frustrated.
"I'm not telling you because knowing would put you in danger."
After hearing his explanation, my previously restless heart suddenly calmed down.
I smiled at him, feeling a knot in my heart loosen. The weight lifted from my shoulders made me feel entirely relaxed.
He gently stroked my hair, a particularly comfortable sensation, like a cat cradled in its owner's arms, tranquil and relaxed.
Suddenly, Mu Xuanche released me and leaped off the bed.
Before I could comprehend what was happening,
"Bang!"
There was another loud noise as the door to the hospital room was completely kicked down.
