Lying on the bed, I still couldn't figure out what had just happened with my master.
Having officially become a disciple of the Xuan Sect, I was given my own room.
Just as I was about to fall asleep, I heard someone knocking at the door. I threw on my robe and got up.
When I opened the door, I found Li Mubai standing there, holding a food tray that was wafting an enticing aroma.
"Li Da, is there something you need?"
"This is a snack that Master asked me to prepare for you. Please have some."
I was surprised that Jade Sun True Person would do something like this; he really was a thoughtful and warm-hearted person.
I thanked him while taking the tray from Li Da's hands.
The hot White Fungus Soup smelled particularly delicious.
At the Daoist temple, we only ate tofu and vegetables, which were almost inedible for a meat lover like me.
I felt a surge of gratitude for Jade Sun True Person's gesture as I picked up the sweet soup, ready to savor it.
Just as the steaming delicacy was about to reach my lips, for some reason, my hand slipped, and the entire bowl crashed to the floor.
A familiar presence wafted into the air, and I looked up.
A handsome man in a dark robe stood there, with sword-like brows and starry eyes, his thin lips slightly pursed. He exuded a lazy and carefree aura as he leaned against the doorframe, his obsidian-like gaze fixed on me.
"What are you doing here?" I was somewhat surprised by Mu Xuanche's arrival.
"What's wrong? Don't you want to see me?" Mu Xuanche raised an eyebrow, looking at me with great interest.
Worried he might misunderstand, I quickly explained, "No, not at all. I was..." My voice trailed off as I looked down, unable to finish my sentence.
I didn't even realize when I started to worry about him.
His presence grew stronger as he leaned closer to me. With a low voice, he asked, "What were you doing?"
"I was worried about you," I said, my voice so soft that I could barely hear it myself.
"Haha!"
Above me came Mu Xuanche's boisterous laughter. Afraid of being overheard, I hurriedly covered his mouth with my hand.
"Keep your voice down."
My heart raced so fast it felt like it might leap out of my chest. This man had the audacity to tease my palm with his tongue.
It was ticklish and electrifying, sending my heart into a frenzy.
Remembering what had just happened, I finally noticed something strange. I turned his hand over and held it firmly, forcing him to stop.
"Don't move for a moment; answer me one question."
His gaze was intensely deep and heated. "If I answer your question, can I move then?"
This man was really asking such a question; it made me feel utterly embarrassed.
To seek an answer, I nodded slightly and asked, "Did you knock over that White Fungus Soup on purpose?"
Although the tingling sensation in my wrist was very faint, I still felt it. If Mu Xuanche hadn't shown up right after the White Fungus Soup was spilled, I would have thought it was an accident. But his sudden appearance was indeed strange.
"Wife, has your brain gotten smarter lately?" A beautiful arc formed on his thin lips.
"Can you tell me why?"
I couldn't believe that Mu Xuanche would be angry to this extent. The person who made me his disciple was someone he respected; he wouldn't deny me even a bowl of White Fungus Soup.
"That isn't good for you. If you want to eat, just let Husband make it for you. Remember, don't eat anything given to you alone from now on."
Mu Xuanche's tone was somewhat serious, and I felt an inexplicable unease within me.
He wouldn't harm me. Could Jade Sun True Person really want to hurt me? If that were the case, why would he push me to become a disciple?
My mind was in chaos, filled with questions that I couldn't find answers to.
Mu Xuanche didn't give me a chance to think either. After answering my question, he pressed closer.
He pinned me down on the bed, his lips sealing mine, leaving no room for further words.
"Wife, the spring night is fleeting."
What followed was a cold body against mine; I felt unbearably hot while he was refreshingly cool.
Like a moth drawn to a candle flame, fully aware that flying into it would lead to death, yet unable to resist the urge to dive in recklessly.
"Do you want it?"
In the darkness, a deep and enchanting voice whispered in my ear.
Last night, Mu Xuanche and I had been entangled for an entire night, and it wasn't until dawn that he finally left, satisfied.
When I woke up, it was already noon. My body ached all over, feeling as if it had been completely drained.
Slowly propping myself up, I realized my stomach was so empty that I felt dizzy.
I glanced at a bamboo basket on the table, curious. If Mu Xuanche was in this room, surely no one else had the ability to place something here.
Opening the bamboo basket, I found a bowl of exquisite White Fungus Soup inside.
I reached out to touch it; it was still warm. Mu Xuanche must have put in quite a bit of effort for this White Fungus Soup to remain warm after he left.
A warm feeling spread through my heart as the sweet and fragrant taste of the soup filled my mouth.
After tidying up the room, I made my way to the main hall.
Shangguan Mingyue and the others were already kneeling in the hall. To avoid drawing attention, I crouched down and sat cross-legged beside Shangguan Mingyue.
I wanted to keep a low profile, but those in higher positions were unwilling to let me do so.
"Gu Si has arrived, hasn't she?"
Just as I settled into my position, my master called out my name urgently.
I quickly stood up and bent my waist, responding, "Disciple is here."
Jade Sun True Person waved his hand, and the Disciple of Xuanzong all retreated, leaving behind three of his entry-level disciples.
So many of them! I had never seen the Second Senior Brother before, nor had I heard anyone mention him. It was truly strange that I didn't even know if this person really existed.
"Gu Si, did you sleep well last night?"
"Thank you for your concern, Master. I slept very well last night."
Jade Sun True Person continued to ask, "Did you eat the snacks I prepared for you?"
Not daring to reveal the truth, I hesitated for a moment before replying, "I did."
"Master is so biased, giving extra food to Junior Sister. Why didn't you give me extra food?"
Shangguan Mingyue pouted and threw a tantrum, only to be glared at by Jade Sun True Person. "Haven't you eaten enough in your room?"
She was quite the foodie; when we came up the mountain, she hadn't brought much else but a large bag full of food.
With that, Shangguan Mingyue lowered her head and dared not speak further.
Master instructed Li Da to take me to learn talisman drawing, along with Shangguan Mingyue since she had always been the worst at it.
Led by Li Da, we arrived at the entrance of a cave. He pointed at the dark opening and said, "The place you'll be learning today is inside."
Although the cave looked somewhat eerie, it wasn't frightening enough to make Shangguan Mingyue's legs tremble.
I dragged Shangguan Mingyue inside, and she clung tightly to a large rock nearby, refusing to let go.
Her face was scrunched up like a bun as she pleaded with Li Da, "Senior Brother, please let me go."
Li Mubai didn’t give Shangguan Mingyue a chance at all; with a strong pull, he dragged her into the cave.
Once inside the cave, Shangguan Mingyue leaned closer to me and said, "Yan Xi, why didn’t you help me just now?"
"It was just learning how to draw a talisman. Was it really necessary to be that nervous?"
Shangguan Mingyue looked at me with an expression of frustration. "Yan Xi, you will regret saying that."
Li Mubai stood in front of the table and addressed us, "Today, I will teach you the first talisman, the Exorcism Talisman. This talisman can disperse ghosts within a ten-meter radius and ensures that the ghost cannot approach you."
The Exorcism Talisman sounded quite useful.
Then Li Da reminded us, "I will draw this talisman once. Pay close attention; if you don’t learn it well, don’t blame me."
With that, Li Da dipped his brush in cinnabar and began to paint on a blank piece of yellow talisman paper.
In just two seconds, this seemingly powerful Exorcism Talisman was completed.
"Did you see it clearly?"
At that speed, I barely caught how he made the first stroke, let alone how to draw it myself.
However, Li Da didn’t give me a chance to argue. He continued on his own, "If you saw it clearly, I will teach you the second talisman: the Spirit Binding Talisman. This Spirit Binding Talisman is used to immobilize ghosts. Remember to place it on your forehead; otherwise, it will be ineffective."
After finishing her explanation, Li Da quickly sketched something again, just like before. Then she tossed three blank Yellow Talisman papers to both Shangguan Mingyue and me, saying, "Just three sheets. Draw them yourself, and practice in the cave once you're done."
Shangguan Mingyue pulled out a pile of snacks and offered them to Li Mubai, saying, "Senior Brother, since I brought you all this food, could you give me one more sheet?"
Li Mubai took the snacks but walked away without giving Shangguan Mingyue even half a sheet of Yellow Talisman paper.
I felt something was off; why did Shangguan Mingyue look so desperate?
"Why are you acting like this, Mingyue? If we don't have enough talisman papers, we can just get more later to practice."
Shangguan Mingyue looked sorrowful and sniffled, "But we need to be able to get out first."
"What do you mean?"
"Is there something waiting for us behind?"
How would I know? I had never been there before and could only shake my head in confusion.
"There are two Evil Spirits waiting for us back there. We must use the Spirit Binding Talisman and Exorcism Talisman to deal with them. Master specifically captured them for us to practice. If we can't subdue them with the Spirit Binding Talisman and Exorcism Talisman, we'll be stuck here for three nights, starving half to death before they let us out."
As she spoke, various terrifying expressions crossed Shangguan Mingyue's face, making me feel anxious as well.
Then she climbed up to the stone door to eavesdrop on the sounds outside. After a while, she turned back and took off her shoes.
Seeing her sneaky demeanor, I knew she must have some trick up her sleeve and quietly moved closer.

Shangguan Mingyue pulled out two blank talisman papers from the soles of her shoes, handing one to me. "One for each of us, fair enough? I went through a lot to bring these in. If we have too many, our senior brother will find out, and then we'll be in trouble. Hurry up and draw the symbols; we need to get into the cave. The longer we wait, the more dangerous it becomes."
Relying on my memory, I hastily sketched four talismans before Shangguan Mingyue pulled me into the cave.
After entering the cave for no more than ten meters, I felt a chilling wind blowing.
There were two ghosts inside, summoned by our master with great effort; they were particularly powerful. Only the Exorcism Talisman and Spirit Binding Talisman could affect them; nothing else would work.
I walked cautiously, tightly gripping the talisman papers I had just drawn.
Shangguan Mingyue reminded me that there was a stone bridge in the middle of the cave, which made me anxious.
As soon as I stepped onto the bridge, a shadow lunged toward me.
