"Something's wrong!" The sudden exclamation jolted me awake.
"Who are you?"
On the other end of the line, a hurried voice replied, "Gu Daxian, it's Li Kui. I have a situation here and need your help. Can you come over?"
Li Kui? Could it be that something happened again in that cave?
The remnants of sleep vanished instantly as I responded, "Okay, I'll grab a car and be there right away."
"No need for that, Gu Daxian. I've already arranged for a car to pick you up downstairs."
It seemed urgent, so I didn't bother with pleasantries. "Alright, I'll change my clothes and come down."
I quickly woke up Shangguan Mingyue. After a brief wash-up, we hurried downstairs.
The driver who had dropped us off yesterday was already waiting at the entrance.
As soon as we got in the car, it sped off rapidly.
Shangguan Mingyue leaned against my shoulder, still asleep from returning late last night.
I dozed off for a bit but woke up to find something was off.
This road was clearly different from the one we took yesterday; it definitely wasn't leading to the villa.
I tugged at the driver in front and asked cautiously, "Master, where are we going? Isn't this supposed to be the villa?"
"Gu Daxian, Boss asked us to take you to his house."
Li Kui's house?
Wasn't it a matter concerning the villa?
Filled with various doubts, I pulled Shangguan Mingyue out of the car. After sleeping in the vehicle, she finally seemed a bit more awake.
I leaned closer and whispered in her ear, "Be alert."
Instantly, Shangguan Mingyue understood my meaning. She shook herself, and her entire demeanor brightened.
As we entered the Li Family's gate, Li Kui rushed over as if he had seen a living Buddha.
"Great Masters, you have finally arrived! I’m so sorry to wake you up this early; it’s truly unavoidable."
After taking our seats, I didn’t bother with pleasantries and waved my hand to refuse the tea Li Kui offered. "Boss Li, let’s get straight to the point."
Li Kui awkwardly withdrew his hand and said nervously, "It’s like this, Great Masters. My best brother suddenly fell ill last night. He’s been lying in bed, vomiting black liquid and convulsing non-stop. The doctor has come but couldn’t help; I beg you two Great Masters to save him."
Both Shangguan Mingyue and I fell silent, still trying to grasp the situation. Neither of us was willing to speak.
This made Li Kui mistakenly think we were hesitating over money. He immediately said, "Great Masters, money is not an issue; as long as you can save my brother's life, we are willing to pay any amount."
Upon hearing about money, Shangguan Mingyue perked up and cheerfully extended one finger toward Li Kui.
Li Kui was taken aback and blurted out a number: "One million?"
Now it was our turn to be stunned. We exchanged glances with each other, speechless.
I actually knew that Shangguan Mingyue's single finger meant one hundred thousand, but no one expected Li Kui would offer that much.
Seeing that we were still silent, Li Kui grew anxious. "Great Masters, is one million not enough? How about two million?"
I originally wanted to refuse, but Shangguan Mingyue firmly grasped the hand that Li Kui extended and exclaimed, "Boss Li, that's generous. This money is enough. Let's go, take us to see your brother."
On the way out with Li Kui, Shangguan Mingyue leaned in close to my ear and gritted her teeth, saying, "I want half of this money. I deserve it, you know."
For me, as long as we gathered a million, that was sufficient. The excess belonged to Shangguan Mingyue, so I naturally had no objections and nodded obediently.
Shangguan Mingyue smiled at me happily, but later I realized just how foolish I was.
Li Kui's brother didn’t live with him. When we arrived at the place, we found out that this brother was actually a longtime business friend of Li Kui's named Zhou.
With the backbone of the family gone, only Boss Zhou's wife and daughter, Zhou Ziqing, remained. The two were silently shedding tears in the living room.
Upon seeing Li Kui enter, the Zhou family immediately came forward with hopeful expressions.
It seemed that Li Kui had a good relationship with this family, enough for this widow and orphan to rely on him so much.
"Don't worry, sister-in-law. I've brought two Great Masters with me," Li Kui said as he introduced us.
From their expressions, they still seemed somewhat doubtful, but since it was Li Kui making the introduction, they were much more polite.
They led us into Boss Zhou's room. As soon as we entered, a nauseating stench hit us—thick and very pungent.
Zhou Ziqing looked like a refined lady from a prestigious family; she smiled apologetically at us due to the unpleasant smell.
I waved my hand dismissively to indicate it was fine, but I couldn't help but feel curious about Boss Zhou.
How could a living person emit such a foul odor?
As we stepped inside, we saw Boss Zhou lying on the bed with his eyes closed and brows tightly furrowed. Beside the bed was a large basin filled with dark liquid. The awful smell emanating from it indicated that this was the black water that Boss Zhou had expelled.
Li Kui stepped forward and lifted the blanket off Boss Zhou, pointing at him and saying, "You two Great Masters, look at my brother's belly; it's swollen like a woman in her tenth month of pregnancy. Please help him!"
Li Kui was quite formidable, having seen through our gentle nature. While speaking to me, he didn't forget to urge Zhou Ziqing and her daughter to kneel.
I was here to save someone; how could I accept their worship? That would be inviting misfortune.
Together with Shangguan Mingyue, we helped them up and reassured them, "Don't worry; let's first assess the situation."
Only then did they release us, allowing us to move around.
We approached Boss Zhou and lifted his eyelids. Beneath them were dark veins, and a shadow loomed over his forehead; it seemed he had indeed been possessed.
Shangguan Mingyue seemed to notice something as well. She beckoned me to feel Boss Zhou's belly.
As soon as I reached out and touched it, I was instantly startled and pulled my hand back.
There was actually fetal movement in his belly! One must know that signs of fetal movement appear only after at least six months of pregnancy.
How could a grown man like Boss Zhou possibly have fetal movement?
Shangguan Mingyue and I exchanged glances, both of us wearing serious expressions; it appeared that the situation was not simple.
I turned to Boss Zhou's wife and asked, "When did your husband start experiencing this?"
Boss Zhou's wife looked like a typical homemaker. Upon my questioning, she nearly broke into tears but managed to speak with her daughter's comfort: "Old Zhou has been feeling bloated since last night after dinner. I thought he just ate too much, but who knew he started vomiting black water in the middle of the night?"
From last night until now, his condition had worsened rapidly.
"What did you eat last night?"
"He loves to eat buns, so I bought some for him. He only ate two buns, and then this happened."
Two buns leading to this? You must be joking.
I discussed with Shangguan Mingyue; everything is unclear right now, and we can't act rashly.
Looking at Boss Zhou, shrouded in dark energy with a grim expression, it seemed that the Vengeful Spirit had come to collect a debt.
I found a wall nearby and sat down, ignoring the strange looks from the Zhou mother and daughter. Shangguan Mingyue and I began to strategize.
"Yan Xi, what are you going to do? I feel like this situation is definitely not simple. The resentment here is so strong; it must be that the Zhou family has harmed someone for it to be like this."
"Right now, we don't have clarity on the situation, which isn't good. But I do have a method we can try. After all, if the Zhou family wants to save someone, they need to put in some effort, right?"
Shangguan Mingyue flashed me a charming smile. "Yan Xi, you are..."
Ignoring her, I walked over to Zhou Ziqing and stood in front of her, observing her with interest.
Perhaps feeling uncomfortable under my gaze, she finally spoke after a long pause: "May I ask why you are looking at me like that?"
"Sister Zhou, I just want to ask you one question: Are you willing to save your father?"
"Of course."
She responded almost instantly, and I smiled. Leaning closer to her ear so only she could hear, I said, "If you want to save your father, wait in the bathroom tonight until the clock strikes one. As soon as you hear the chime, look towards the toilet. Whatever you see there, tell me, and I will have a way to save your father. Remember, when you look, you must chant your father's name; absolutely do not forget this."
My words seemed to make her hesitate. Zhou Ziqing looked at me with difficulty. "Great Master, does it really have to be this way?"
"There is no other way; this is our only option."
I deliberately put on an air of sophistication, trying to appear knowledgeable. I couldn't help it; the unique lady-like aura surrounding Zhou Ziqing made me envious. It was something I had always wanted but could never attain.
Zhou Ziqing nodded awkwardly. Tonight, Shangguan Mingyue and I decided to stay at the Zhou residence. Concerned for Zhou Ziqing's safety, I gave her a protective talisman, instructing her to shout for help immediately if anything happened. I would rush to her aid at the first sign of trouble.
Although Li Kui and the others found it strange, they understood that this was no ordinary matter. I brushed it off, saying it was best left unspoken.
To ensure Boss Zhou's safety, Shangguan Mingyue and I decided to sleep in Boss Zhou's room that night.
This greatly pleased Madam Zhou, who prepared a bed for me and provided exceptional service.
Deep down, both of us knew that there wouldn't be any major issues tonight; the real drama would unfold tomorrow evening.
Still, I couldn't shake off my worries, which is why we chose to stay here. My work ethic was too strong; there was no other option.
As expected, during the night, Boss Zhou only woke up twice, vomiting some dark liquid before falling back asleep.
Aside from the unpleasant odor, everything else seemed normal throughout the night.
Early the next morning, we gathered everyone in the Zhou family hall.
Of course, this included the main character, Zhou Ziqing.
She was the only one with a blood relation to Boss Zhou here, which was why she had been arranged to stay last night.
Zhou Ziqing looked somewhat pale, with particularly dark circles under her eyes. It seemed she hadn't slept at all last night.
Her gaze towards me felt a bit strange.
"I ask you, Sister Zhou, to share everything you saw last night."
Zhou Ziqing seemed a bit out of it. I called her name twice, but she still didn't respond.
Finally, under her mother's urging, Zhou Ziqing snapped back to reality.
"Sister Zhou, what did you see last night?"
"I saw... I saw..."
Madam Zhou appeared even more anxious than I was, urging Zhou Ziqing, "Baby, quickly tell the Great Master what you saw."
"Mom, I saw that woman..."
In an instant, Madam Zhou's eyes widened in shock, her face filled with horror.
