In the end, I was dragged into this problematic private room by Shangguan Mingyue.
As soon as I stepped inside, a chill hit me, sending shivers down my spine. I muttered, "Do they not pay for electricity? Why is the air conditioning so cold?"
The man leading us turned around and said, "No, this room doesn't have air conditioning."
Shangguan Mingyue shot me a glance, her expression strange, and I fell silent.
The man who brought us here tried to leave but was yanked back by Shangguan Mingyue, who insisted he stay with us.
He looked terrified, almost kneeling before us, desperately pleading with Shangguan Mingyue.
Feeling sympathetic, I pulled on her arm and said, "Let him go. I'll stay and keep you company; he looks quite pitiful."
Shangguan Mingyue glared at me, her eyes clearly indicating that I was more of a hindrance than a help.
Then she grabbed the man and threatened, "You answer me three questions, and I'll let you go. Otherwise, you'll have ghosts haunting you."
The man nodded vigorously, not hesitating for a moment.
I stood quietly to the side, curious about what questions Shangguan Mingyue would ask.
To my surprise, she became serious and took on an authoritative tone.
"Were there any strange behaviors from the deceased before they died?"
The man glanced at Shangguan Mingyue as if he wanted to hide something. It wasn't until she tapped him with her Peach Wood Sword that he finally confessed.
"The first person who died kept throwing around cash before the incident."
"The second dead person stripped off all their clothes and kept slapping themselves."
"The third dead person defecated in front of everyone and then self-destructed."
Now I didn't need Shangguan Mingyue to tell me; I already knew that these three people had probably all been harmed by a ghost.
I was still curious about what the second question from Shangguan Mingyue would be, but she simply let that person leave.
Once I confirmed that the person had gone far away, I hurriedly asked Shangguan Mingyue what was going on.
She calmly replied, "She has arrived."
She has arrived?
Who?
The ghost!
Shangguan Mingyue handed me a talisman and instructed, "Take care of yourself later."
With one hand holding the talisman she gave me and the other gripping the Dagger of Devouring, I remained alert, scanning the surroundings.
Suddenly, the lights in the private room went out, nearly making me scream.
Fortunately, Shangguan Mingyue was prepared; she turned on a flashlight. Although it wasn't as bright as electric lights, it was better than being in complete darkness.
I didn't know when, but a man's figure appeared in front of us.
He was facing us, but I couldn't make out his features.
I exchanged a glance with Shangguan Mingyue, and she took the lead as we slowly approached the man, one in front and the other behind.
When I was about three steps away from him, he suddenly turned around, startling me into retreating quickly.
There were no footsteps behind me; Shangguan Mingyue hadn’t followed. I couldn’t abandon her like that, so I turned back and ran toward her.
By the time I returned to the spot, Shangguan Mingyue was already engaged in combat with the Evil Spirit, wielding her Peach Wood Sword.
Seeing that Shangguan Mingyue had the upper hand, I could only watch from the sidelines.
Suddenly, another man appeared out of nowhere, his expression blank and his eyes blood-red. His lower body was drenched in blood, as if it had been severed by someone, leaving a gruesome mess.
He mindlessly charged toward Shangguan Mingyue, making it one against two. I began to worry about her.
Damn!
I cursed loudly as another Evil Spirit emerged. Could this be the vengeful spirit of one of the three who had died?
This ghost was rushing toward me with a fierce expression, a long scar running from its chest down to its grotesque form.
Its intestines dragged along the ground as it came at me without care.
I knew that being afraid wouldn’t help; there was no choice but to rely on myself in this situation. I quickly took out Shangguan Mingyue's talisman and pressed it against the Evil Spirit's forehead—wasn't this how they did it on TV?
But the Evil Spirit merely paused for a moment before tearing the talisman apart and lunging at me in anger.
I dodged swiftly and shouted toward Shangguan Mingyue, “Why isn’t your talisman working?”
Shangguan Mingyue smiled apologetically at me. “I’m sorry; my talismans are my weakest skill. I didn’t draw them well. Just hold on for three minutes, and I’ll be ready.”
I silently cursed under my breath, damn it, three minutes!
This Evil Spirit in front of me could devour me at any moment.
It's not the god-like opponents I'm afraid of, but the pig-like teammates.
I discarded the remaining talismans in my hand, dodging to buy some time while secretly gripping the Devouring Dagger tightly.
The Evil Spirit lunged at me, pinning me to the ground. A foul stench assaulted my face, and I quickly held my breath. I was a moment too slow and nearly suffocated.
I remained still, letting the Evil Spirit think it had succeeded, its mouth wide open as it prepared to swallow me whole.
Seizing the opportunity, I summoned all my strength and thrust Shiro into the center of the Evil Spirit's forehead.
The Evil Spirit, pierced by Shiro, let out a heart-wrenching scream before its body began to smoke and slowly vanish into thin air.
It was gone, but my hand still trembled around Shiro, and I leaned weakly against the wall, gasping for breath.
Feeling someone trying to snatch my Shiro, I instinctively rolled over and pressed the blade against that person's neck.
"It's me, it's me, Shangguan Mingyue."
Upon hearing her voice, I quickly released Shiro and said irritably, "What are you doing ambushing me?"
"Hehe, nothing. I just wanted to see your dagger. What is it? It's so powerful."
Seeing her gaze constantly darting toward my Shiro, I hurriedly hid the dagger behind my back.
It's better not to flaunt this thing too much; I wouldn't want anyone getting any ideas.
I asked, "Have you dealt with those two ghosts?"
"Of course, I'm the closed-door disciple of the Jade Sun True Person, Shangguan Mingyue."
"Then can we leave? I'm in a hurry to find my roommate Liu Tian. The longer we wait, the worse it gets."
Without a moment's hesitation, Shangguan Mingyue replied, "No."
"Why not?"
"Because the Evil Spirit that killed these three hasn't been caught yet. We can't leave."
"Yan Xi..."
Hearing someone call my name, I turned to see who it was.
To my surprise, it was Liu Tian. "Liu Tian, you finally showed up! I've been looking for you everywhere."
"Yan Xi, come here. I need to talk to you." Liu Tian looked at me quietly and waved me over.
Just as I was about to walk over, Shangguan Mingyue stopped me.
She leaned in close and whispered in my ear, "Are you really unable to see it, or are you just pretending? This person in front of you is a ghost."
A ghost...
Her words made me calm down and take a closer look at Liu Tian.
Sure enough, I couldn't sense a trace of life energy from Liu Tian.
Seeing me frozen in place, Liu Tian seemed a bit anxious and urged, "Yan Xi, what's wrong? Why aren't you coming over? Didn't you come to find me?"
My roommate suddenly transformed into a ghost standing in front of me, and it felt as if my blood had instantly frozen. I stood there trembling, unable to move.
Liu Tian's eyes widened in shock, as if they were about to pop out. Her face slowly began to twist and contort, revealing a fierce expression.
I felt a chill run down my spine and couldn't bring myself to look at her.
"Why won't you look at me?"
Her cold, low voice pierced through my heart, making me tremble all over.
Slowly, she began to walk towards me. I couldn't confront her; I was paralyzed with fear. All I could do was shout for Shangguan Mingyue to help me.
I cried out in desperation, "Shangguan Mingyue, why aren't you doing anything? Hurry!"
Shangguan Mingyue shot me a disapproving look and patted my shoulder. "Don't worry, leave it to me."
Then she charged forward with the Peach Wood Sword in hand.
Liu Tian showed no fear of her as the two clashed together. I anxiously watched the unfolding scene.
Suddenly, I felt a cold breeze blow past my ear.
My body jolted, and everything went dark.
When the light returned, a figure slowly emerged before me—it was Liu Tian.
I saw Liu Tian dressed flamboyantly striding towards Wanhui. As soon as she entered the room, she was taken to a private booth by the Supervisor.
A man stuffed a stack of red bills into Liu Tian's chest, lingering for a moment to caress her as he withdrew his hand.
Liu Tian laughed joyfully and planted a kiss on the man's face before he led her into a room.
Inside the room were three men, one of whom I recognized as the Evil Spirit who had just tackled me.
Could this be the three men who had died?
Liu Tian was clearly an experienced woman in such places. As soon as she entered, she raised a glass to toast.
After downing a drink, one of the men seemed dissatisfied and grabbed Liu Tian's head, forcing her mouth open to pour liquor from the bottle.
I could clearly sense that Liu Tian was beginning to feel scared, but she forced herself to remain calm and complied.
Her attempts to placate the man did not win his favor; he suddenly ripped Liu Tian's clothes apart. She tried to dodge away but was caught by him, who slapped her several times.
Liu Tian wanted to escape, but as she struggled, she was pulled back. She cried out for help, but no one paid her any attention.
The men only laughed harder at her cries.
One man approached and stuffed a roll of money into Liu Tian's mouth to silence her. Then he placed a black collar around her neck, forcing her to crawl on the ground.
…
At the moment when tears of repentance streamed down Liu Tian's face, I too shed tears.
Those three men were simply perverse. The suffering they endured before their deaths was well-deserved because they inflicted all those same torments on Liu Tian—burning her with cigarette butts and beating her relentlessly.
I heard Liu Tian's cries echoing in my ears, and my head felt like it was about to explode from the pain.
My heart was filled with rage. I was furious, and I wanted to kill.
I wanted revenge; I wanted to eliminate everyone who had bullied me, making them too afraid to ever touch me again.
The anger surged in my brain, and it was that Supervisor who found Liu Tian. She would be the first I would kill.
It was those security guards who buried Liu Tian. I wanted to bury them all alive; they all had to die.
"I want to kill..."
