At the Dawn 46: Shooting Practice

On the sixty-eighth floor of the Lijing Hotel, there was a dedicated Shooting Range. Previously, I had come here to shoot with my friend, the Fatty. However, the firearms here had all been modified, significantly reducing their mechanical strength. The bullets were also low-powered, so at that time, neither of us used the weapons available. 0

Now that we had access to good guns, we couldn't wait to practice shooting here. The Fatty's shooting skills were surprisingly good; he hit almost every target perfectly. His strong and muscular arms allowed him to handle the Assault Rifle single-handedly with impressive control. 0

I suspected that he might have practiced before, as his stance and magazine-changing technique looked very professional, akin to that of a soldier. The Fatty insisted he hadn't trained formally; he mentioned that a friend of his was in the military, and he often visited him. They would occasionally go to the training range together, and after enough practice, he naturally picked up the skills. 0

However, I found it hard to believe. His professional technique didn't seem like that of an amateur. I suspected that he must have had some experience with firearms in the past, especially since he used to be involved in shady dealings and had connections with various people. 0

Meanwhile, Xiao Tian had developed an interest in shooting after accidentally killing a monster with three shots on the sixth underground level. At this moment in the Shooting Range, she was having a blast firing away. The Fatty was beside her, teaching her how to hold the gun and shoot properly, and she seemed quite dedicated to learning. 0

Seeing this young girl acquire a life-saving skill made me happy. Since I was carrying a Sniper Rifle and couldn't really use it in this Shooting Range, I decided to take out two powerful handguns I had previously acquired and started practicing with them. In my left hand was a Desert Eagle, and in my right hand was a Large-Caliber Revolver. The massive recoil provided an exhilarating sense of realism. 0

Back in college, I often played shooting games with Lao K—games like CS, CF, Call of Duty, Battlefield, and even PUBG. During those times, I developed a keen interest in firearms; after all, what guy would refuse a powerful and visually appealing gun? 0

However, back then I only experienced shooting in games; nothing could compare to holding the real thing. The weight of the guns and the tactile sensation of metal felt incredibly satisfying. After firing a few rounds—five hits on target and two misses—my shooting performance was mediocre at best. It didn't make me feel as awesome as I did in the games. 0

Clearly, there was a significant difference between virtual shooting in games and real-life shooting with actual firearms. The Fatty quickly noticed my shooting issues. After adjusting my grip and correcting my technique, my shooting skills improved noticeably. 0

Once again, I fired the gun, hitting the target with all five shots, one of which landed in the bullseye. This made me realize once more that the Fat Guy was no ordinary amateur gun enthusiast. 0

After finishing a magazine, my hand felt a bit numb from the recoil, so I decided to take a break. During this time, I started discussing with the Fat Guy about when it was most appropriate to shoot when encountering monsters and when it was absolutely necessary not to fire. 0

Xiao Tian noticed we were chatting and paused her shooting to come over and listen. 0

The Fat Guy spoke first, "When shooting, you definitely need to assess your surroundings. If you see a large horde of Zombies moving around you, then you absolutely should not fire indiscriminately. The more you shoot, the louder the noise, which will attract more Zombies towards you, making it harder for you to escape." 0

I nodded in agreement; these creatures were exceptionally sensitive to sound. To them, the loud gunfire was like fireworks lighting up the night sky—extremely attention-grabbing. Previously, Xiao Tian's accidental gunfire on the sixth underground level had attracted a massive number of monsters, nearly trapping us in a dire situation—this was the most obvious example. 0

"So when is it suitable to shoot?" I asked the Fat Guy. 0

He pondered for a moment as if recalling past experiences before responding, "Well, it's okay to selectively fire when you see there aren't too many Zombies around. Especially if you're about to be attacked by one; then you must shoot." 0

I nodded again in agreement and added, "And after firing, you need to quickly relocate; don't linger in one spot for too long to avoid attracting monsters from other areas who might hear the gunfire. Also, it's not just about shooting when you're attacked; if your companions are in danger from monsters, you should shoot to help them. But the prerequisite is that your shooting skills must be solid—don't end up accidentally hitting your teammate instead of the monster." 0

"In summary," I continued, "guns should only be used as auxiliary weapons. You can't shoot all the time; first of all, gunfire is too loud and can easily attract monsters. Secondly, ammunition isn't always readily available." 0

After saying this, I turned to look at Xiao Tian. She nodded obediently, indicating that she understood. 0

Earlier, the Fat Guy and I had managed to acquire some gun silencers from a warehouse on the sixth underground level. I fitted silencers onto both of Xiao Tian's handguns, significantly reducing the sound when she fired. 0

After resting for a while and having a bite to eat, we resumed practicing our shooting skills. Xiao Tian was especially focused. Sweat began to bead on her nose and cheeks without her realizing it. Due to her slender arms lacking sufficient strength, after firing a few more shots, her arms felt sore from the recoil. 0

I let her rest for a while, but she refused, so she started shooting again. It seemed that this girl could be quite stubborn at times. Eventually, she couldn't keep going and stopped. 0

After lunch, the Fat Guy went back to practice as usual, while Xiao Tian and I headed to the gym as we always did. Because her arm strength was insufficient, I had her start lifting Dumbbells—those small, light ones designed for women—to work on her arm strength. After a while, she complained that her arms were sore. 0

She looked at me with her big eyes, indicating that she wanted to practice something she was more familiar with. I noticed that when she practiced familiar exercises, she didn't feel sore at all. Instead, her movements were skilled and her fingers nimble. This girl could be quite mischievous and adorable at times. 0

After helping me relieve some stress, she began doing Push-ups. I realized that this girl had a significant inherent advantage over me and the Fat Guy when doing Push-ups—she had two natural weights right on her chest. While I was coaching her through the Push-ups, I noticed that she was wearing an Anti-Stab Black Silk Bra. My curiosity was piqued. 0

Could it be that when we went to the underground warehouse on the sixth floor together, she had secretly dug it out? I remembered noticing her rummaging through clothes for quite a while back then. Was she specifically looking for this? It seemed that the Fat Guy's whispered comments had reached Xiao Tian's ears. It appeared that even after turning over a new leaf, this girl still enjoyed playing those games. 0

It looked like tonight I would have the chance to observe and participate in some interesting activities. Just as I was daydreaming with nothing to do, a sudden loud explosion followed by a barrage of gunfire startled me awake. 0

Could it be that the Fat Guy was still shooting at the Shooting Range on the sixty-eighth floor? What was with the explosions? Was he throwing grenades too? I glanced around and looked out the window in the direction of the sound, only to see thick black smoke rising from across the Songming River in Jiangbei District. 0
