"You must have heard wrong."
Xiong Tai's face flushed with anger, and the current situation seemed to confirm his feelings.
This kind of reaction hinted at something unusual; everyone felt that this man had likely been bewitched by that fox-like woman.
If it weren't for Xiong Tai's impulsiveness, their team wouldn't have incurred a debt of gratitude that remained unpaid. It was all due to Xiong Tai's rash decision, and Meng Luo had yet to approach them to fulfill that promise. That promise could be anything, except for something that went against personal will.
However, if it was merely to eliminate the Zerg, it would be beneficial for humanity. Thus, an alliance between the two teams would be understandable. But if it were for other reasons—such as causing detrimental effects within their team, undermining morale, or using high-risk missions to send them out as vanguards to harvest the lives of the Zerg —then it would be a different story. This would achieve both the glory of the harvest and damage the opposing team's main forces.
The leaders of each team were deeply resistant to such a scenario and would never compromise with the other side under such circumstances. If the opposing team employed such cunning tactics, it would undoubtedly lead to a disaster without end. Especially when two teams with significant reputations clashed head-on, it would waste resources for the association and humanity as a whole.
Those caught in traps are not fools; often they are forced into situations where they willingly fall into traps due to overwhelming circumstances. The consequences of a direct clash between two powerful teams would naturally affect innocent bystanders. Such outcomes often result in turmoil for an entire association, and a head-on confrontation could lead to mutual destruction, severely injuring one of the teams.
Therefore, the association has currently issued permits prohibiting alliances like those in the past. Moreover, if any conspiratorial situations arise during this process, or if any third party perceives issues between them, it is entirely possible for the commander who raises such conspiracy theories to be brought before a military tribunal.
After such pressures began to manifest mutually, there has been a noticeable decrease in teams proposing conspiracy theories. Perhaps due to strict policies from the association, those attempting to play tricks have been reduced. However, they have resorted to other tactics in an attempt to challenge the association's bottom line, which would ultimately label them as traitors and lead them to military court.
Now, if two teams wish to form an alliance, they must draft a detailed plan that includes mutual agreement and pass a lie detector test. Only after these trials are successful can a third party draft the final plan. If both sides successfully ally and any significant casualties occur during missions—regardless of circumstances—they must serve time in prison for training.
The argument between both sides continued for some time; it seemed that if they had enough energy to argue, they also had enough strength to leave. Xiong Tai was not so weak that he couldn't move; as long as he could walk, finding someone to support him was feasible.
"Alright then, if we don't leave soon and those things come back, we won't be able to escape," Freyr suddenly spoke up at this opportune moment.
As soon as those words were spoken, everyone turned to look with wide eyes. Freyr was already tidying up his clothes, having changed out of his bloodstained shirt. The two knives he had been holding vanished into his palms with each breath he took. In other words, he had been gripping those long blades tightly even while sleeping.
Sleeping with knives hidden away, he felt that the moment there was even the slightest disturbance, his blades would instinctively slice through the air, ready to sever an opponent's head from their shoulders. Especially when he had fallen from mid-air and lost consciousness shortly after; his hands refused to let go of the knives. If it hadn't been for Duan Shuai whispering in his ear, the blades might have been poised at someone else's throat.
"That thing," Xiong Tai suddenly exclaimed with a sharp cry, "I remember now! That thing broke my Primordial Thunder Hammer! It was incredibly tough; I had to use some tricks just to deal with it."
"Yeah, it was indeed difficult to handle. Besides that, there were also some skeletons that were quite troublesome. We encountered those terrifying creatures you saw as well. We need to leave as soon as possible. How's your body holding up?"
Freyr turned around and asked. He was curious about many things, like how the Skeleton Lord had been defeated. Its body showed no weaknesses, and even the sharp Aterkan Longsword might not have made it budge at all. Such situations were rare.
Thinking this way only fueled his desire to know what had happened at that moment, but upon reflection, he realized it wasn't necessary to know right now. If they continued like this, they would truly run out of time. His mind was just beginning to explore some new ideas; once these thoughts were organized together, they would reach a point of completion.
"Uh, I still feel some pain inside, but I can move without any issues. I don't need anyone to help me walk; right now, we just need to get out of here alive," Xiong Tai said as he pushed away Duan Shuai, who had come over to assist him.
Duan Shuai scratched his head and walked a few steps forward nonchalantly, ignoring him completely.
"Alright then, just follow us."
Freyr urged as they approached a massive pink rock formation. After surveying the surrounding terrain, he exerted force and pushed against it. After a couple of attempts, the rock showed signs of movement; however, when he tried to push harder, it wouldn’t budge at all.
"I think there’s something wrong here. This rock isn’t just a natural formation; we need to try moving it aside. Let’s all push together in one direction. Got it?" Freyr instructed as he quickly gathered strength. Even though others had their own thoughts at that moment, they rushed over. With everyone exerting their full strength and with Xiong Tai's help, they managed to move the stone a couple of meters before it came to a halt.
There must be something hidden beneath that stone; otherwise, it wouldn’t be so stubbornly immovable. From a distance, it didn’t seem that heavy either. But for now, nothing else was happening. They soon spotted an opening beneath where the stone had been—a passageway about the size of a manhole cover.
