The water seemed fine, so the problem must lie elsewhere.
For instance, the shadow beneath the water created an unsettling feeling. Everyone shrugged and gazed at the shadow in the pool, trying to focus and sense it, but they found nothing—no subtle feelings at all. It was as if the object was cold, lacking edges, devoid of life, and without breath.
After staring for a while, they slowly snapped back to reality and took a deep breath. Ross rubbed his forehead and continued, "It seems I haven't caused any trouble for everyone, nor have I led you astray. Alright, I'll go down first. Just watch my signals, and if you're safe, come down. How does that sound?" Ross's demeanor appeared natural now; he seemed like his usual self—exaggerated and straightforward.
His movements were swift as he quickly stripped off his upper clothing, leaving only his shorts. He stuffed the clothes into a waterproof backpack, slung it over his shoulder, and then leaped into the water.
The surface erupted in huge splashes, and everyone wore expressions of disbelief, instinctively closing their eyes. When they opened them again, the water had calmed down. Then a pair of white legs emerged from the surface, followed by a neck that stretched out like a swan's. The figure spat out some water and suddenly laughed, "This mineral water is delicious; it's even sweet!"
"Uh, it seems there’s no problem after all; everyone is drinking it," remarked Xiong Tai from the side.
"Yeah, let's keep an eye on it. I wonder what the water quality is like. I hope no one has done anything unsanitary in there," Mackey chimed in unexpectedly.
"Unsanitary?" Someone nearby perked up at this comment. "Like what?"
*Cough cough.* Mackey shook his head as if to clear his throat and continued, "I mean like if someone needed to pee or something; don’t think too much about it."
"I'm not thinking too much; you're the one who's imagining things," came a response from across the way, unable to find anything else to say and resorting to coughing to cover up the awkwardness.
Meanwhile, the person in the pool was thrashing about with their white legs like a plump goose finally enjoying some water. Then they dove back under the surface as if sensing something below. After a few minutes, when they resurfaced, their expression had slightly changed. They shouted urgently for everyone to come down quickly and mentioned something about finding an exit.
"If that's the case, then there's no problem. I'll go down first, and everyone else can follow one by one. Xiong Tai, you carry Nosty. Nosty, hold your breath and don't think too much. I'm letting the strongest man in the team take care of you," Freyr said as he turned to each person on the side.
The others remained silent and said nothing more. Freyr then jumped into the bottom of the pool. Not long after, an arm emerged from the water, signaling with a 'K' gesture before slowly disappearing beneath the surface. It seemed that the water was fine.
"Let's go down. Remember the Commander's words? One, two, three!" Xiong Tai was the last to jump into the water. He responded to his companions behind him and, after receiving their acknowledgment, jumped in as well.
The surface of the water rippled, and soon a figure appeared beneath it, diving deeper into the depths. Opening his eyes underwater wasn't difficult, and he quickly spotted his companions' figures before slowly following them.
It seemed that those underwater had found an entrance and were diving in. He quickly followed suit, struggling a bit in the water but eventually making his way into the Channel. It felt like entering a new place, refreshing and unique.
Initially, he thought it would be normal to struggle with breathing underwater, but the sensation was quite different—almost as if he were on land. The water felt somewhat thick, reminiscent of being in a Warm Bed inside a mother's womb.
Breathing was manageable; they poked their heads out and spat out some water.
The situation here was more complex than expected; it resembled a hidden chamber filled with smooth jade stones. The room was unexpectedly surprising, but the temperature and quality of the water were vastly different from outside.
"What exactly is this?" others surfaced together. Although the water was comfortable, staying submerged for too long felt strange. There were no pores at the bottom, nor did it feel like an active volcano below; surely water flow wouldn't easily disperse without erosion. Heat wouldn't simply dissipate either, yet outside and inside were distinctly separated into two conditions: cold water and warm water.
"I see another entrance below; let's go down," someone else said as they surfaced nearby. Ross immediately shouted back and continued to dive deeper.
At that moment, others exchanged glances, feeling slightly awkward. In times like this, it seemed better to be alone; aside from wide-eyed stares, they had little else to do as they followed suit into the depths.
Sure enough, they discovered that the heat of the water seemed even warmer down below. They didn't know why this was happening, but if they knew, would they still proceed? Clearly, they couldn't let themselves hesitate just because it might get hotter ahead.
Diving deeper, they immediately followed the current into the cave, feeling no discomfort in their bodies.
This situation was truly frustrating. On one hand, there were the elements within them; they had originally thought that entering the Trench would allow them to leave this place directly. Instead, they discovered another cave, and beneath it lay a Channel. They had to keep diving, and this time the journey was considerably longer, necessitating the use of an Air Mask for travel.
Without that tool, they might not last long before suffocating. As they ventured into the Channel, it seemed they had entered yet another area. The water here showed little change, but they could already feel their skin slightly reddening; the water temperature seemed to be rising.
Feeling this way, there must have been some reluctance to continue. If they pressed on, they risked burns, which was certainly not a wise choice.
"Are we really going to keep going? This water temperature is strange; it's getting hotter, don't you think?" someone suddenly questioned. "Are you sure this is the right path? I feel like it's getting warmer."
