Nosty did not agree to take on the role of a mentor, as being a master was not an easy position to handle. However, since the situation had developed this way, he had no intention of admitting it. "Well, apprentice, I never really thought about taking on a disciple. I think it's better to forget it. You probably wouldn't want someone like me as your master, right?" Nosty forced a smile. Deep down, he understood that the desire to take on a master was often just a fleeting whim that many young people experienced. He was surprised to find that Ross shared such thoughts, but he found it rather intriguing.
Despite Ross's persistent attempts, Nosty politely declined his friend request.
Ross shook his head slightly, his gaze drifting toward his companions as he sighed softly. "What a pity. Perhaps there will be another opportunity in the future."
Nosty remained unaware of Ross's inner thoughts; perhaps he simply wanted a mentor or was looking for support in the future. This person's straightforwardness was quite refreshing. However, there was no harm in keeping the door open for future possibilities. After all, Ross seemed to be genuinely disappointed.
"It should be about time we arrive. Ah, here we are," Ross said.
Upon returning to a conference room in one of the association's buildings, it seemed that some people were already sensing something unusual. Nosty followed Ross into the reserved meeting room and called out to the others, "I'm back! Look who I brought with me." It was indeed quite surprising, especially considering all that had happened. Although everyone was eager to know what had transpired during their absence, it seemed odd that they had taken so long for a test that could have been completed much quicker. The results were typically announced immediately after testing; one would know if they passed or failed on the spot. They had been gone for several hours.
Freyr and the others had just returned from receiving their missions at Wanderer's Home and had barely settled down when Nosty arrived with news of their tasks. They were all buzzing with excitement because the missions appeared to promote teamwork and cooperation within their group. With a little caution, they could achieve zero casualties.
This was their first mission as a Soldier-Level Hunter Team since their promotion, and the variety of available tasks had significantly increased. Although they were still computer-generated missions without previous options, some of these tasks were entirely new to them. Whether they could navigate through these challenges depended on their quick thinking and adaptability.
Nosty felt little concern; they had already endured a major battle together. Freyr stood out as a survivor from two previous war missions. While his strength might not be extraordinary, his presence was certainly well-known within the association. However, with great recognition came scrutiny; sometimes their fame made others uncomfortable due to their tendency to seek attention and certain followers spreading rumors that tarnished their reputation. Nevertheless, there were still teams willing to collaborate with them.
Ultimately, helping each other was secondary; their cooperation was based on mutual benefit rather than one side trying to take advantage of the other. After all, teams existed for the sake of earning scores together; money wasn't the primary concern—it was merely about securing food and rest. There weren't any significant issues otherwise; perhaps there were minor misunderstandings regarding certain matters, but as long as they adhered to the principle of mutual benefit within the association, they would continue to thrive together.
They still needed to figure out what had happened. It was surprising that they had arrived so late; the others were becoming quite impatient. They could have set off earlier, but the delay had thrown their plans into disarray. After thinking it over, they had intended to leave early the next morning, and the vehicle also needed time for maintenance and rest.
The Flight Mode and Ultimate lasted for eight hours, so it was best to start with the regular Ground Mode. Only when time was running short or in case of danger should they switch to Flight Mode. After all, the speed difference between Flight Mode and Ground Mode was significant, with an average speed reaching 100 kilometers per hour, which Ground Mode could not match.
“Oh? So you all went through something like that? How terrifying! That useless leader really brought this upon himself; he actually got himself killed. Hmph, serves him right,” Freyr said with a nod, his tone lacking warmth. “But it’s great that you’re okay. And as you know, you’ve caught the attention of Hilbert, the President. I never expected that outcome. It seems you are indeed special; you appear to be a key figure for our team’s protection in the future.”
After saying this, Freyr quickly shifted from the joy of reuniting with an old friend back to a more serious demeanor.
It had been a long time since he had spoken so much; this was quite different from his usual style. He never wasted words; it was always about work and missions. He preferred not to mix life with work because they were inseparable. If he had to blend them together, he would rather abandon one—either choose work or simply embrace life.
However, he was very curious about how others managed to balance both life and work. It seemed incredible, and perhaps Freyr was too fixated on certain things. Only when it came to living could he truly relax and enjoy life.
Yet, he was also a family man who couldn’t ignore the changes and growth of his wife and children at home while focusing solely on work. The growth of children was unpredictable; missing just a few months could lead to noticeable changes. Time passed irretrievably.
Meanwhile, the others wanted to inquire in detail about what had happened at that time. The situation had been quite awkward; if anyone else had been present, things might have turned out differently. This was a classic case of individualism at play. In reality, humans often struggled to trust their instincts because intuition could be less reliable than one might think.
After hearing the story, they understood the entire sequence of events. It was almost a tragedy born from human jealousy—a singular incident. However, following this event, it was believed that the association would implement even stricter rules in response.
