Xiong Tai finished his meal without leaving a single bite behind, which was quite surprising. He then walked out of the dining hall, with Ross following closely behind. Ross noticed that something seemed off with Xiong Tai; he appeared to be preoccupied with something. However, seeing him eat so heartily suggested that any lingering frustration had dissipated.
Just as Ross was about to continue following him, Xiong Tai suddenly turned around and responded, "Uh, I'm heading somewhere. Commander must have sent you to follow me to check if I'm okay. I'm fine now and don't feel like causing any trouble, so you can go back. I'll return in a bit."
At this point, Ross didn't sense anything unusual about him.
Moreover, the looks from the people earlier didn’t seem to affect him; he maintained his usual nonchalant attitude.
However, since Xiong Tai had said this, Ross couldn’t confront him directly but decided to keep an eye on him to ensure he wouldn’t do anything strange. Of course, Ross wasn’t thinking along those lines anymore. If Xiong Tai were just looking for someone to vent his frustrations on, it would surely reach the higher-ups' ears, and his reputation would suffer greatly.
But now, Xiong Tai appeared calm and composed, behaving normally. There was no need for them to watch him like a criminal; that could easily lead to a loss of personal freedom and safety.
"Alright then, take care of yourself. I’ll head back," Ross said.
"Yeah, go ahead," Xiong Tai nodded in acknowledgment.
The two parted ways at the intersection. As Xiong Tai watched Ross's figure gradually fade into the distance, he felt a bit relieved and continued toward his destination—a larger tent guarded by five burly men at the entrance. As they noticed someone approaching from afar, they moved to block the way.
"Hey there, you look familiar. I think I've seen you somewhere before," one of the men remarked.
"I have a round face that looks like everyone else's; I can't help it. You must have mistaken me for someone else. I’m here to see Meng Luo," Xiong Tai stammered.
"What business do you have with our Commander? Oh? I remember now; you're a member of the Four Hunter Team. Your Commander has such an air about him that it made us uncomfortable from the start. Our Commander can't stop talking about you guys; it's been tough for us because the impressive image we built up has gone down the drain. So you're from that team—makes it easier for me to find you," one of the men said as Fat Brother suddenly cracked his knuckles ominously.
"Hey, wait a minute, that's our Commander! I swear I didn't do anything," Xiong Tai said, stepping back in frustration.
"You didn't do anything? What do you want to do? If you had done something, we would be in trouble. Right now, our Commander has matters to attend to, and you can't go in," a muscular man stepped forward, blocking Xiong Tai's way.
Despite Xiong Tai's tall stature, he knew that these men were equally strong. He didn't have any advantage over them, but he wasn't particularly afraid either. If it came down to a fight, he could handle them with varying degrees of injury. If he had the Primordial Thunder Hammer with him, his chances of winning would increase significantly.
It could even lead to a quick victory, but these men were clearly not pushovers; they would retaliate before going down. This foolish bear would be at a disadvantage if caught red-handed at the tent entrance.
There was no denying it; his earlier actions had already raised suspicions. Moreover, something felt off inside the tent as mist occasionally wafted out, indicating someone was bathing inside.
Xiong Tai suspected that the person inside was Meng Luo. She must have sent the other members out to guard while she took her bath alone.
"Who is making such a racket and disturbing my bathing?" Meng Luo called out, her voice sultry. She was dressed provocatively, her skin glistening from the water, and she wore an oversized shirt that made her look particularly alluring. Many boys would be captivated by such a girl. "If you don't have a good excuse for this disturbance, don't blame me for being rude. Clear this up or I'll report you to your Commander. Even if you're higher level than me, I'm Meng Luo and I won't let you save face."
"Uh, Commander, it's this bear trying to sneak a peek at you while you bathe. I stopped him," one of the men suddenly stepped forward and addressed Meng Luo while bowing his head slightly.
"What?" Meng Luo's face flushed. "Who is your Commander?"
She found it strange that she had forgotten this guy was part of Freyna's team—or rather, she hadn't remembered him at all because his presence was completely overshadowed by their Commander.
Xiong Tai may have been a simple man, but he felt a pang of jealousy this time. No matter who stood before him, they seemed insignificant compared to him. He couldn't stand the thought of sharing food or women—those were the two things he valued most in life.
Living for those two things was what gave life meaning; otherwise, it would all feel pointless.
"Big sister, don't you remember? This morning at the meeting, he was one of the members from the Four Hunter Team, and their Commander is you," the man leaned closer to Meng Luo, sneaking a laugh as his voice gradually became more pronounced.
This should have been lip reading, but Xiong Tai still didn't quite understand. The sounds he could recognize were based on sensory perception, while lip reading was a skill that required finesse.
He wasn't very familiar with that ability, so he couldn't grasp it fully. However, when Meng Luo heard this, she suddenly burst into loud laughter, her joy evident.
"I just thought of something funny! Hey, Bear, do you have something important to discuss with me?" Meng Luo looked over at Xiong Tai, who quickly responded.
"Uh, I came to find you because I wanted to talk about something, like the possibility of our two teams collaborating. I'm the Vice Captain of the Four Hunter Team; my words should carry some weight," Xiong Tai stammered out after a moment, but it sounded rather strange.
It was clear that his words were disjointed. Upon hearing this, Meng Luo's eyes lit up as she continued, "Is that what you mean? If that's the case, shouldn't your Commander come personally to discuss collaboration? Why send a clumsy guy like you instead? Oh, I see! You want to probe our strengths."
"Uh, that's somewhat accurate. However, our Commander doesn't know; I came here without telling him," Xiong Tai tried to explain further, but his words came out awkwardly and not many understood.
The people in front of him rolled their eyes at him because his explanation was so odd that it made his purpose for coming seem baffling. Was he sent by the enemy as a fool?
This behavior was indeed strange. Nevertheless, Meng Luo quickly reacted. She gave Xiong Tai a look that he found unappealing. Meanwhile, three or four men rushed over and grabbed his arms and legs, lifting him up. "If you don't want to talk, I'll take you to meet your Commander right now. After all, he did bring me a small gift; it would be rude to refuse his kindness."
