“Is it really Camouflage? If that's the case, then there's nothing more to discuss; perhaps his method will work.” A more flamboyant researcher stepped forward, dressed in pure white, with a bald head and gold-rimmed Glasses. His smile had a slightly lewd quality to it, even a hint of exaggeration. With such a recognizable voice, there was no need to turn around to know who it was.
The source of the laughter was Bug Doctor, a name that sounded quite exaggerated, and that was how everyone referred to him at first glance.
Regardless of what he was called, it didn't matter much. What was peculiar was his sense of humor, his ideas, and his Thinking, all of which were beyond the grasp of ordinary people. The only normal habit he had was consuming whole grains at every meal, but his mannerisms made it hard to consider him a typical individual. Perhaps the reason for his eccentricity was simply that he was different from others. As for why he was called Bug Doctor, it was clear that he was an expert in studying the Zerg. No one could be more boring or willing to delve into such tedious and disgusting research than him.
There were records of him once dissecting a dung beetle's insides, leading to a methane leak that splattered feces all over the walls. The cleaning lady fainted several times during the cleanup process but was fortunately revived. That incident marked one of the most common experiments during the time when Bug Doctor earned the title of mad scientist. It seemed this habit contributed to his many years of being single; he had never taken on an apprentice.
The only apprentice he ever acknowledged was a similarly eccentric young woman who was just as disheveled and humorless as he was. Despite her messy demeanor, she eventually fell in love with a young Gentleman from a prestigious family, and they both fell into romance, abandoning their careers. She is now a prominent figure in society.
Aside from her past research on insects, she also had this quirky mad scientist as her mentor. However, this did not lead society to form any particular opinions about her; rather, intellectuals viewed her as someone unwilling to be merely a decorative figure. Later on, she opened a laboratory dedicated to researching the family lineage of the Zerg and discovering new species. She too became a scientist.
However, the gap between them and their experimental methods underwent significant changes. Perhaps she abandoned her past notions after starting a family and having children; she no longer wished to carry certain ideas and beliefs from her previous life.
“I see now; it's Camouflage, isn't it?” someone else continued to indicate.
Soon, the venue was drowned out by such voices. The expressions on the faces of those researchers gradually settled down. If it were indeed Camouflage, then there would be no issue with machine malfunctions; their concerns were unfounded. The Sonar detection couldn't possibly have any errors either. Judging by the results, it seemed that Bug Doctor had once again saved the day, earning him a round of enthusiastic applause.
However, Bug Doctor wasn't seeking fame or recognition; at over a hundred years old, titles meant little to him. His spine had compressed into an oval shape, becoming deformed yet still allowing him to conduct long hours of research. It was remarkable that someone of his age could work so diligently and step in at critical moments; perhaps it truly was time for some ideas to change.
After all, had they ever heard Bug Doctor express any doubts about this? It seemed they needed to continue providing him with more positive topics for discussion.
"What is Camouflage?" someone asked.
"Camouflage is a pure ability, a gift from nature. In past biological exhibitions, I saw an extinct Chameleon that possessed a natural form of Camouflage. It changed its skin color to adapt to the changes in nature, evading many brutal and cold-blooded creatures of its time, such as the snake, the epitome of cold-blooded animals." This simple explanation of Camouflage was enough to make everyone aware of the terrifying nature of this trait. Others naturally thought about how such a horrifying characteristic could spiral out of control, especially considering it belonged to a living creature. Wouldn't that instantly render their instruments useless? For the first time, humanity would become blind.
Although technology has developed rapidly, with surveillance existing even from space to monitor everything on the surface, such instinctual abilities were surprisingly elusive. They could not monitor movements underground, especially deep within the Core Depth. If there were civilizations down there, what would happen if they were attacked by races from the Core Depth? Wouldn't that leave them utterly helpless? And wasn't the enemy in the Core Depth also the Zerg? Had the Zerg already infiltrated the Core Depth? Was history about to be rewritten?
It was unclear when these insects' ancestors had entered the Core Depth. Perhaps during the Dinosaur era, there existed a group of unevolved insects that were ancestors of the Zerg. They entered the Earth's core to escape large-scale disasters, indicating that the Core Depth was not a closed-off place.
There might also be mediums providing life-sustaining energy; otherwise, how could such a characteristic as Camouflage exist? This was clearly unimaginable.
"If that's the case, our weapons would be ineffective against the Zerg. As long as it's on the surface, it is their territory; that is what makes them so terrifying." Someone in the team had an epiphany, followed by a series of applause.
"Well then, what should we do?" The Star Marshal observed this rare moment of consensus and sat back in his chair, responding calmly.
"I believe it's obvious that the person who can solve this problem is right in front of us. Why don't we invite him to lead this operation?" suggested Bug Doctor.
"Yes, that's a good idea. However," Star Marshal expressed some doubts, "there are plenty of hunters and members of the Assassin Association who possess similar abilities. Why should I think his skills would be beneficial to us? Is relying on intuition scientific? We need to select outstanding heroes from the association to lead our large team."
"Exactly! Shouldn't we pick someone out?" Suddenly, there was commotion at the entrance as a helicopter landed with a flourish. A gray-haired old man stepped out; upon closer inspection, when he removed his sunglasses, he revealed a handsome face—it was Hilbert, leader of the Hunter Association. Beside him stood the President and Vice President of the Assassin Association, along with Clinton, Vice President of the Hunter Association, who arrived last.
However, his arrival exuded an air of taking charge. The Star Marshal turned his head and smiled slightly, and an exhilarating tension filled the air between them.
