Within the range, it felt as if a dozen High-Explosive Bombs had exploded simultaneously, causing a violent reaction.
Everyone was astonished; the reaction was indeed too intense.
Turning back to look at the man who had just shot the arrow, they saw him biting his lip, his face pale, muscles rapidly withering after releasing that arrow.
It was clear he was using his life energy to unleash the maximum power of that arrow.
The Dark Arrow was, in fact, a Life Arrow; one could only imagine how powerful the energy released by sacrificing life would be.
The shockwave from the explosion continued to expand, but evidently, everyone remained frozen, staring at the cloud of smoke and dust.
They hadn’t even had time to cheer; instead, the creature known as Elder Maya I, an Insectoid, was terrifying. Until it was confirmed that it had perished, they absolutely could not let it go. Even if they all fell in battle, they would expend their lives to bury this monster.
One could only imagine the kind of power that required. As his life energy drained away, pain etched itself onto the man’s face, his complexion turning a sickly yellow with wrinkles beginning to form. The black hair started turning white at an observable rate from the tips.
“I’m not that old yet,” he muttered.
Soon, he became a hunchbacked old man, though a faint smile lingered at the corner of his mouth.
“Hey, are you alright? Using that kind of ability should have taken a toll on you,” someone said angrily as they rushed over, wiping their eyes and scolding him.
“I didn’t want my mistakes to harm my companions. Well, maybe it’s dead now; my life has been worth it. I never expected to still be alive. I really am lucky,” he chuckled incoherently. Those nearby felt a pang of sadness listening to him.
“Someone go check if it’s really dead,” someone suggested.
“Let’s decide this with rock-paper-scissors,” another chimed in.
“You still have time for jokes? This time we suffered heavy casualties; we need to reflect on the serious consequences of this mission,” Russell awkwardly supported his chest full of wounds and shouted with all his might.
With that, everyone fell silent once more.
Mainly because he was absolutely right; it was time to calm down and consider why this mission had encountered so many setbacks.
However, what was unexpected was the sound of stones cracking amidst the explosion smoke ahead, followed by a figure darting out from above the haze.
The speed was astonishing, yet everyone felt something was off. Elder Maya I's hands were in a terrible state, rotting away as acidic blood dripped down slowly.
With a face marked by Hatred, it gazed at the group of laughing humans below.
Affected by this attack, its Self-Healing Ability did not work as it had imagined, failing to heal its wounds immediately.
It seemed that the damage from this life energy was not ordinary; the injuries ignited a profound anger within Elder Maya I, marking the first time it truly experienced the taste of fear of death.
To be honest, that last move had been incredibly dangerous. It had thought it would be pierced through; even its controlled elemental gravity field had become ineffective. Only when the dark arrow flew before it did Thinking react. With both hands gripping the dark arrow and exerting immense force, it managed to awkwardly deflect Feather in another direction. However, it did not anticipate that once the dark arrow touched the ground, it would immediately trigger an explosion.
Although the shockwave did not affect it and could not harm it, it was primarily Feather's power that rendered its hands completely useless, flesh and blood mangled. There was a dull pain in its abdomen that could even threaten the child within—this was no ordinary child but the future heir, the prince of Insectoid. How could this not incite its fury?!
Disgust and fear alternated in its mind as Queen Mother regarded humanity with a new perspective.
Indeed, they were very different from the two groups encountered earlier. It had originally thought humans were merely intelligent beings with little capability, temporarily existing on this planet and surviving solely through their wits. The intelligence bestowed upon the future heir filled in gaps like completing a puzzle; this was one of its most satisfying creations.
Its life was not long; born to be useful to its kin, it took pride in being able to bear an heir.
Even after death, Underworld Road would allow it to reconcile with its past.
"Brain, where are you?" Queen Mother shouted downward.
Everyone was taken aback and some became flustered.
"What! It's not dead? Then..."
Someone responded faintly but remained cautious of the man beside them who had unleashed the strongest arrow fueled by life energy.
"I didn't expect my arrow to only injure it to that extent. If this creature breeds further, the consequences are unimaginable," said the man, coughing heavily. His hunched body seemed unable to endure much longer. He swallowed Glucose Syrup and milk with effort to maintain proper nutrition, but it was still far from enough.
This frail body likely wouldn't hold out for long; aging rapidly from his forties had brought him to the brink of death.
Such a significant leap, even someone as strong as iron would find it impossible to accept. The filth within the body and the aging of the organs could not withstand such a change.
It was futile; no matter how much he tried to input nutrients, it would never be enough to compensate.
"Ah, I know that this won't kill him. I've done my best; the rest is up to you. I only have this last breath left, and I can do nothing more. Let me stand and appreciate this final reversal," the Aged Man said, his hunched figure slowly moving to sit on a distant stone. After closing his eyes and concentrating, his vision gradually became clearer.
"How could this be? He’s not dead yet! What should we do now?" someone cried out in agony, clutching their head.
Tears welled up in their eyes, sending them into a frenzy of fear.
"Calm down; we haven't given up hope yet. There will be a change," Russell's voice suddenly rang out, sounding steady as if it had weathered the passage of time.
Russell was also terrified and anxious about the situation, but with him around, the team wouldn’t fall apart just yet.
If such a situation truly occurred, Queen Mother would undoubtedly sense their fear and eliminate them one by one on the spot.
"Head, where have you gone? Respond quickly!" A frantic voice echoed as Queen Mother slowly returned to the ground.
"I—I’m here, Your Majesty." The head emerged partially from the dirt, spitting out the soil from its mouth before respectfully hopping to the feet of Mother Queen Maya I.
