"Hmph, how ridiculous. I never would have thought we actually listened to a newcomer. There, we encountered an unprecedented crisis. If it weren't for the hunters stepping up, we might have faced total annihilation this time. Is this all still our responsibility?" 0

"Don't be so petty. This decision was made through a show of hands, and everyone believed that route was absolutely fine. Who could have predicted the journey would be fraught with difficulties? No one wanted to face these challenges, yet we all did. Although it seems we've lost a few hunters, most of us managed to retain our strength overall, which is already a good thing. This is what they call 'surviving great adversity brings future blessings.'" 0

Upon hearing this, Freyr couldn't help but speak up. "Alright, everyone stop arguing. The situation this time is mainly my fault. I made a mistake, and that's my original sin. No one wants to lead everyone into a dead end. I apologize, everyone; I didn't expect it to turn out this way." 0

A hunter immediately raised his voice. "You think you deserve to say that? What have you done? You were nowhere to be seen during the battle, and afterward, you were always pondering this and that. Are you trying to make everyone think you're special or something? Without you, this team would encounter fewer problems. If you think you can still handle being a hunter, then be honest and stop overthinking things." 0

Freyr replied, "I have never wronged anyone. I know what I'm doing, and I've done what I believe is right. You can place the blame for this incident entirely on me; I can accept that. But don't slander me. The responsibility I've taken for this team far exceeds what any of you have done. Think about what you've contributed to this team." 0

The hunter's temper flared uncontrollably as he shouted, "What have I done? I’ve definitely contributed more than you! If you think you can compare yourself to us, then your lazy behavior during battles means you'll never measure up to me! Tell me, where were you during the fight?" At that critical moment, he looked at Freyr with a hint of mockery, drawing everyone's attention. 0

"I don't need to tell you what I was doing, but it was certainly more than what you've contributed." 0

"More than me? Pfft! I saw you slacking off while we were fighting! You went off to save John instead of acting like a proper hunter! You're afraid of death, afraid of confronting danger, scared of losing your life! So saving others is just your way of redeeming yourself—am I wrong?" 0

Freyr felt a surge of immense grievance wash over him as all eyes turned toward him. They wanted to hear his response, but before long, he turned his back completely and walked away without looking back, dejectedly heading toward his temporary quarters. 0

After walking three or four meters away, he suddenly stopped and turned around with a serious expression. "Everyone has their own thoughts; you shouldn't ostracize others like this. One day you'll realize just how excessive your actions are today." 0

He had never endured such great injustice before; at that moment, he was moved. 0

Perhaps his usual thought was simply to be a hands-off manager and let the team thrive through competition—even if it meant enduring some grievances. However, the one who always bore the brunt of those grievances was him. He suffered countless cold stares and criticisms without cause; no one considered his role within the team or truly believed he could influence its future. 0

He was, after all, an Ability Hunter, renowned for his speed. Even he could not go back on the promise he made to himself: to run at the fastest speed for the rest of his life. However, this power came with its flaws; to gain a portion of great ability, one had to sacrifice something of equal value. 0

Yet, he could hardly remember what he had given up. He had made a joke and erased most of his memories from the time he established the contract. 0

The hunter spat without hesitation and sneered, "Hmph, not even as good as a dog. How can such riffraff become hunters? Was there any thorough vetting in the selection process?" In truth, their memories were limited; he had used Gene Lock without a care and had rushed in to save John, who had been crushed below. 0

They had no idea how he dealt with the Broken Back Flame Centipede during that timeline. Although he had the strength to continually break through limits, he would forever exist in places unseen by others. This ability, from the moment it was born, was destined to be a solitary gift. 0

Speed—swift as light—flew from one end of the distant universe to the other in mere moments, allowing only a brief encounter with living beings. 0

It was just a fleeting glimpse before the light vanished again. 0

As if it had never arrived at all; whether it came or went made no difference. 0

Creatures that sensed its arrival felt grateful, while many others did not have the luxury of such thoughts. They believed that the arrival of light was an inevitable outcome, and so was its departure. 0

There was no need to express gratitude; after all, countless rays would continue to shoot across from distant shores, leading to meetings, reunions, and then farewells. 0

Watching the retreating figure, the other hunters felt a tinge of disappointment. Their leader cleared his throat and admonished, "You went too far. Next time, mind your tone. This is a decision we all agreed upon. Your actions imply that you think it's his fault and that he should bear this blame. Let me ask you: are you afraid of death?" 0

"Death?" The hunter chuckled at this. The others turned their attention back to him. 0

"What’s so funny? What joke did I tell that made you laugh? I’m asking you: are you afraid of death?" The leader, Russell, glared with a hint of menace in his eyes. The others fell silent as if a vast domain was slowly unfolding around them. 0

The Hunter's tone grew slightly heavier, and an awkward smile appeared on his face as he said, "Hmph, isn't death the honor of a Hunter? I was born to embrace death; why should I ever fear it?" 0

"If a Hunter fears death, then he should have given up the moment he realized that being a Hunter is a high-risk profession. I chose to become a Hunter of my own volition. Isn't death the badge of honor that every Hunter is born with? We should not fear it; instead, we should aspire to it. That is our proof of honor." 0

"Since you understand this, everyone here understands it too. No one fears death. If we do not die in battle, we will perish in a mundane life, and that is not the pursuit we desire. Death is the ultimate fate. You have made a mistake by shifting responsibility onto others, and it makes me feel ashamed," Russell's voice continued. 0

The Hunter replied, "Ashamed? That's a funny word. You used an elegant term to praise me; thank you for the compliment." 0

Russell smiled and said, "Yes, if you consider that a compliment, then let it be one. I won't choose you as my teammate for the next mission; you have been excluded from the team." After saying this, Russell glanced toward the Medical Tent and continued, "I'll stay here and wait; you all go rest. We don't know when the next mission will come, so getting enough rest is part of the mission too. Go on." 0

Fengyang left angrily with a face full of shame, while the other Hunters exchanged glances before quietly departing one by one after Russell fell silent. 0
