Outside the corridor, the bodyguards who entered the room felt a slight tremor in their hearts upon witnessing the scene.
They looked at the man before them, wondering if he would still make decisive choices in this situation, as the saying goes, "A tiger does not eat its cubs." Suddenly, one of the bodyguards spoke up, "Young Master, should we avoid this?"
Freyr glanced at him and replied, "Avoid? Why should we avoid it?"
The bodyguard fell silent. Anyone witnessing this situation would think that the child was causing chaos. The boy looked like a demon, drenched in blood. Although his eyes did not emit a green glow, every action he took felt incredibly eerie.
Freyr took a deep breath and slowly said, "Forget it. You go check on him!"
The bodyguard nervously shook his head. "What? Me? Alright, I'll do my best, but I don't know if he's been parasitized or if it's something else."
"It's simple. I'll teach you. If he's infected by the Zerg, there are two signs: one is a high fever, and the other is green pupils. Both are terminal conditions with no cure. However, parasitism is different; unless the body is severely weakened, green pupils will appear. But if a person with strong immunity is parasitized, they won't show those signs but will exhibit extreme bloodlust instead. Their tongues will elongate like those of vampires in the night."
"This creature is likely part of a mutation of the Bloodsucking Leech that can turn normal people into vampires. If they don't consume fresh blood, they will lose consciousness. This is even more terrifying, and even Surgeons might overlook it."
After Freyr finished speaking, he sighed lightly. Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of something in the cabinet. Ever since he entered the room, he had felt as though someone was watching him. However, trained as he was, Freyr wouldn't feel such lowly tactics; although it wasn't an overtly hostile gaze, being watched for too long still felt unsettling.
He brushed past the bodyguard and patted his shoulder. The bodyguard jumped in surprise but crossed over a pool of blood to crouch before the infant. He used a handkerchief to wipe away the blood on the child's upper body and tore open the baby's swaddling clothes, pressing his mouth against the forehead to feel for temperature differences while reaching toward the back to sense something.
Freyr approached the cabinet and gently pulled it open. Although hidden well, it was large enough to conceal an adult. Who knew if it could be a parasitized Puppet? As he opened the cabinet, his gaze froze at what lay before him. He hurriedly pulled out a person from inside—the family’s Nanny—an elderly woman who was quite old but had been summoned to serve as a Nanny due to her poor living conditions.
At that moment, she was trembling all over, her face pale with fear. Her hands were clasped together at her chest in fists, her lips quivering as she muttered some scriptures under her breath.
Freyr quickly checked the Nanny's vital signs and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that this white-haired old lady was not resisting at all; even with a man touching her indiscriminately, she seemed indifferent. Her pupils were dilated and her breathing slightly rapid; amidst her incoherent murmurs were tremors in her voice.
"Everything's normal," said the bodyguard while holding the baby with a smile.
"I'm good here too. Let's set this house on fire and then move everyone to another place."
Freyr pulled Nanny's hand over to her back and casually handed the lighter to the Bodyguard Leader beside him before heading downstairs. The old woman showed a hint of fear in her expression, but as she descended the stairs and moved further away from that room, her breathing gradually steadied. She stepped out of the villa and into the courtyard.
Once outside, he looked up at the bodyguard in front of him, his face contorting into an unpleasant expression as he whispered, "Soak it in gasoline. When Team comes out, burn the house down."
Just hearing their master's words made the bodyguard's expression twitch uneasily, but soon someone reacted. They retrieved an Oil Drum from the trunk of the car, removed the cap, and one by one passed the Oil Drum around as they walked and poured it around the villa. Before long, the air was thick with the smell of gasoline.
After waiting for a while, several people rushed out. They were startled to sense something was off, but as a wave of hot air blew from behind them, flames began to erupt at the entrance of the villa. Then came an explosion from the second floor, engulfing it in fire. By the time they reached the center of the courtyard, their previous position was already consumed by flames.
"Roar!"
A strong screech echoed from within the villa, sending shivers down their spines.
They had never anticipated there would be so many insects.
However, those sounds were soon drowned out by the roaring flames.
Freyr set Nanny down beside the car to rest and then approached his bodyguards, cradling a baby in his arms. He turned to gaze at the burning house, which struggled like a fierce beast in agony amidst the flames. The sound of shattering glass filled the air as waves of heat surged toward them, creating sharp echoes that bounced around. The high temperatures reflected back at times, even blowing towards the scorched bodies in the center of the courtyard.
Within minutes, the second floor collapsed!
A night’s effort had turned an entire building into a tomb for the Zerg.
Exhausted, everyone sat on the ground smoking cigarettes. They didn’t sleep directly because it was unsafe at this hour. They watched Freyr's silhouette approach the corpse of a Brain Eater Mosquito.
He drew a razor and plunged it forcefully into the creature's head!
The head was made of extremely hard material; it was supposed to be cut open with a laser to preserve the essence of its brain matter intact. The core of that brain matter contained what could be refined into a Gene Pill—a difficult-to-form conical substance.
Although it was conical in shape, to an ordinary person, it was undoubtedly a great supplement, even surpassing the effects of artificially enhanced pills. It was akin to a rough stone being mined and polished into a smooth jade, revealing its true value. However, the actual benefits of the Gene Pill remained unknown to scientists at present.
Consuming it raw was even better after digestion!
Freyr employed Bone Removal, applying continuous force to the skull until he managed to cut a small gap. He then began exerting pressure from his fingertips, gradually excavating around the edges of the gap. It took him over an hour to completely penetrate the cranial bone.
Once the skull was breached, a torrent of viscous fluid gushed out, accompanied by a wave of brain matter and the acrid smell of ammonia. Even with a mask on, it was impossible to fully block out the odor. Freyr, feeling uncomfortable, exaggeratedly plunged his arm into the opened skull.
"Hmm?"
After struggling internally for a while, Freyr's expression suddenly froze. "This Target... I see it now."
When he withdrew his arm, a dark blue chunk of flesh was stuck in the center of his sticky palm. This chunk was the conical shape of the Gene Pill; if made into pills in equal proportions, it could serve at least three people. The size was not absolute, but this essence had transformed from the blood and flesh consumed by the Brain Eater over several years.
He placed the chunk into a full bottle of mineral water to rinse it off, wasting three bottles before getting it completely clean. Not a single drop of blood could remain on the flesh; any biological DNA would affect its efficacy. If conditions allowed, it might require several rounds of distillation and filtration for consumption.
Freyr found a spot to sit down and glanced around his surroundings while quickly securing the chunk in his palm.
A gentle breeze swept through the courtyard. After some time, the burning flames gradually subsided, and an eerie silence enveloped the area—so quiet that even the chirping of insects had vanished. Some bodyguards had fallen asleep inside their cars, while others stared blankly with reddened eyes. Seizing the opportunity, he approached Relock and offered him the chunk.
"Young Master, I can't accept your gift; that blue chunk looks too strange for me to take," Relock said honestly as he pushed away Freyr's outstretched hand.
"I'm telling you, this is contraband; not just anyone is qualified to consume it. If the police come later, no one will be able to benefit from it. This thing can enhance your body; in simpler terms, it can evolve your genes. If I'm not mistaken, the Gene Pill produced by Brain Eater Mosquito can enhance mental attributes upon consumption and even grant special abilities."
Freyr continued to push his hand forward; after all, Relock had saved his life. Offering such a favor felt justified.
"This is too precious; I think I'll pass," Relock replied.
Freyr slapped his forehead and chuckled awkwardly, "Why is it so exhausting to talk to you? I'm not saying that Gene Pill can make you stronger. In the future, situations like this could happen at any time in the outer districts. If you can't protect yourself, at least taking it will give you some self-defense capability and the potential to evolve. Many people would beg for this; why are you still—"
Relock shook his head and replied, "But this is your thing. My dad always said we were living off others, so I can't harbor fantasies about someone else's possessions. Even in the apocalypse, I want to live my life my own way."
"Huh?"
Freyr was at a loss for words, shaking his head as he thought, "You really are your father's son. If it weren't for your own situation, you'd probably have no idea how you'd die." Still, he felt it was necessary to clarify things for him. He decided to keep the Gene Pill for Relock; friendship was clearly a greater loss than solitude.
Freyr suddenly raised his head and looked into Relock's eyes with determination. "Be honest; I'm not an ordinary person either. I've experienced too much sorrow. I don't want to be subdued by fate. I've consumed a lot of this meat and become a Gene-Enhanced Human. The battle between the Zerg and humanity is not that far off. Right now, I'm struggling alone, but in the future, I want to create a team unique to Gene-Enhanced Humans. I hope you'll take it now and fight alongside me."
Relock felt a surge of emotions inside him. After hesitating for a moment, he objectively said, "I'm just a useless person. Even after becoming a soldier, I'm still just cannon fodder. What can I do?"
Confusion flickered in Freyr's eyes as he said, "If you always see yourself as cannon fodder, when will you ever grow? If you're always treated as cannon fodder, then dying on the battlefield would be more honorable; it's for a greater cause. Compared to your own ideals, which one is more important?"
Relock remained silent.
"The method of consuming the Gene Pill is straightforward: just eat it raw. However, you must endure intense pain during the process. I've given it to you; think for yourself. I don't want to waste more time talking."
"Give me some time; I'll give you an answer."
"The answer is something only you know in your heart; ask yourself what your true intentions are."
