Freyr watched as several Cosmic Worms unleashed their deadly attacks, letting out a furious roar.
With each heavy kick to Xuanyuan Shun's head, his face grew more swollen, bruises forming under his eyes. After enduring so many blows, even the most resilient could reach their limit. As darkness clouded his vision, Xuanyuan Shun managed a faint smile and said, "I leave the rest to you."
As those words left his lips, Xuanyuan Shun slipped into unconsciousness, releasing the grip he had on the Cosmic Worms surrounding him.
Faced with such a dire situation, no one could continue to endure. Freyr's pupils glazed over in a blood-red haze as he clenched his fists tightly, the sound of cracking knuckles echoing in the air. He sprinted toward the Base Camp where a dozen Cosmic Worms were gathered, moving with an extraordinary speed that surprised even himself. In his rage, he was unaware of how exceptional his body had become; after all, he had been resting well.
Looking around, he saw at least three others still struggling to hold on. Freyr did not want this mission to end in failure because of him!
A few Cosmic Worms let out strange cries and charged at Freyr.
Freyr's movements were incredibly swift. One Cosmic Worm attempted to flank him from behind while another lunged at him from the front. But Freyr denied them that opportunity; he landed a punch squarely on one Cosmic Worm's face, his fist reddened with fury. He then grabbed another Cosmic Worm by the face and unleashed a flurry of punches.
"You trash! You wanted to play? I'll play with you! I didn't come looking for you; now get lost!"
Freyr shouted angrily at the Cosmic Worm that had crawled up from behind, not giving it a chance to react. He stepped forward and delivered a powerful kick to its abdomen before moving on to stomp down on its head. He then crouched down and ripped off its Red Badge from its chest.
Another Cosmic Worm was dazed from the blows it received and looked through narrowed vision at the man approaching him. For a moment, fear gripped him, causing him to take a step back. But before he could escape, Freyr seized him by the collar and wrapped an arm around his neck. The sudden movement sent chills down his spine as he felt himself being lifted off the ground. When his head slammed into the ground, despair and deep fear filled his eyes; overwhelmed by pain, he dared not rise again.
"Another one down."
Freyr tore off the Red Badge from the fallen opponent's chest and turned to face the other three Cosmic Worms. The sight of him sent chills down their spines. Just as two of them were about to advance, two thick arms suddenly reached out from behind them and wrapped around one of the Cosmic Worms. The sheer strength was terrifying; the three struggled in vain against their captor as their faces twisted in agony beneath their masks.
The three Cosmic Worms had underestimated their opponent; who would have thought that this seemingly half-dead waste would possess such strength? The burly man reeked of raw meat—had those Stun Guns really lost their effectiveness? That seemed impossible; while Stun Guns might not be lethal, they were certainly enough to incapacitate a wild boar! Yet here they were facing someone so difficult to deal with. The three quickly reacted and prepared to counterattack against their target with their Stun Guns!
This time it was Xiong Tai who began to falter; he had sustained too many injuries and could no longer withstand even moderate attacks. Though these strikes weren't particularly strong, he was battered and exhausted. He bore a heavy responsibility but was still just one person—how much could he truly accomplish? Like Xuanyuan Shun before him, he smiled faintly as he let go.
He was certain someone would avenge him—and that person was none other than the captain of the United Defense Heroes Camp, who approached radiating vengeful fury.
At some point, he recalled a saying from his father: "When you grow up, you will meet a companion worthy of your trust; remember this: always protect their back."
"Dad, I think I finally understand the meaning of what you said to me. But now, there's nothing I can do. The dignity of our team is in your hands now, Captain."
The last beacon of hope for this team had vanished. At the same time, Freyr had reached the base of the Cosmic Insect Faction. The remaining five Cosmic Worms approached cautiously, but recalling how easily they had dealt with two Cosmic Worms earlier, they hesitated and held back, leaving some room for maneuvering. They knew that the first one to attack often set a bad precedent. Instead, they pulled out their Stun Guns and cranked up the voltage to maximum.
A crackling surge of electricity filled the air, and suddenly a burnt smell wafted through. Everyone raised their Stun Guns and fired, but the shots didn't short-circuit; instead, they stopped just short of Freyr's skin, as if blocked by an invisible barrier.
Seeing this, the group displayed expressions of confusion. Freyr didn't give them a chance to hesitate. He infused his Memory Metal with mental energy. This was only a small part of his essence, and he wasn't sure how long it could hold out; there were only three pieces of metal in total, and one had already been depleted.
The wall formed by the mental energy successfully blocked the incoming Stun Gun fire. However, facing such opponents, the rate at which his energy was consumed exceeded expectations. The Memory Metal was still too weak as a vessel for mental energy, but being able to withstand one attack was already a significant achievement. Freyr had put in considerable effort into this; his physical condition had also recovered somewhat.
Bone Removal!
With a shift in thought, two words flashed in his mind!
Previously, against solid opponents from his past life, using this technique would save him a lot of stamina since it could instantly break through defenses. However, this time the threat he faced was far greater than before. Surrounded by several foes, he clenched his fists; each strike could shatter a bone, and he only had one chance—breaking even a single bone would leave him without any fighting capacity.
Otherwise, in the next round of attacks, Freyr would be defenseless; there wouldn't be any spare Memory Metal left for protection. Although he had used up one piece, such materials were precious—each piece lost was irreplaceable—and their abilities seemed to vary slightly. He couldn't afford to waste them on these thugs.
Yet merely imagining the difficulty ahead was far from enough; however, given Freyr's current physical attributes, utilizing Bone Removal for combat was still sufficient. After all, he was still dealing with humans—just a bunch of immature kids who hadn't fully matured yet. He had never feared anyone before! His speed was astonishingly fast; these opponents couldn't react in time as he struck them with rapid punches to their chests, shattering ribs with each blow. It felt more satisfying than enduring a series of hits; Freyr even thought it was too lenient on them.
Injuring ribs would require at least over a hundred days to heal. Within mere seconds, those outer Cosmic Worms were clutching their broken ribs and crying out in pain.
Freyr rummaged through their belongings, tearing off medals from their chests and stuffing them into his pockets before delivering another punch. The scene left everyone stunned; no one dared to utter a word.
After stripping all the medals from them, he raised his hand and continued on his way.
The Cosmic Worms that had bullied their companions faced appropriate consequences. However, no one from the Cosmic Insect Faction dared to act recklessly; they brandished steel rods as weapons. One Cosmic Worm stepped forward and raised its rod high—a moment that incited outrage among humans and gods alike—while beside it stood a brown-haired boy with glazed eyes staring blankly at Freyr's approaching figure. At that moment, a rod came crashing down on the back of his head, instantly covering his face with bright red blood.
Freyr simultaneously drew the axe strapped to his back—a weapon that could be deadly if misused—but he couldn't care less about that now. Striking heads with rods would only breed hatred. With a gust of wind at his feet that belied his previous state of being run over by wheels twice, he charged into the Cosmic Insect Faction with overwhelming force.
The Cosmic Worms at the front retreated a step; this was no human speed!
Before he could react, it felt like a heavy axe had struck him on the head. Blood streamed down from his forehead, and the suddenness of the blow sent the nearby Cosmic Worms into a panic. Confronting the axe, no one knew if the next strike would land squarely on them.
Freyr's face turned ashen. He lifted his foot and kicked the opponent squarely in the face, shouting in anger, "Are you going to make a move? Hand over your badges, and I might spare your miserable lives. Otherwise, your fate will be worse than his." With that, he delivered another kick to the opponent's face.
The Cosmic Worm let out a pained yelp, removing the mask covering his face. Holding a fallen tooth in his hand, he pleaded, "I'll give you what you want! I won't fight anymore; please spare me." He then tore off the Red Badge from his chest and threw it at Freyr's feet.
Freyr glanced at the badge on the ground and surveyed the surrounding Cosmic Worms. Taking a deep breath, he spat out in frustration, "Did you all see that? Anyone who doesn't surrender will face an even worse fate."
His chest heaved violently as his initially calm demeanor began to boil with rage. Spotting his fallen comrade on the ground ignited his fury. Seizing the moment while those around him were dazed, he raised his axe and swung it down. With only himself remaining, there was no need for mercy; those who caught the edge of his axe fell to the ground instantly.
Stepping over the trembling bodies, he approached with a sense of reverence and tore off several Red Badges. For those who lay incapacitated, he offered them basic respect; he would never attack those who were down and unable to fight back.
Almost simultaneously, their leader, the Cosmic Bug Captain, stepped forward. He was a rugged figure, towering over two meters tall and weighing over ninety kilograms. But what was even more intimidating was the aura he exuded. From a distance, just standing there made the remaining Cosmic Worms rush towards him. These few members were among the most elite athletes, moving with an uncanny speed as they swung their clubs with blinding quickness.
Yet this speed was not without its limits; Freyr remained calm enough to handle it all. Although his vision dimmed slightly, it did not hinder his ability to respond effectively.
"Why push me?" Freyr roared, veins bulging on his forehead. "You brought this upon yourselves; go die!" With that, he picked up a steel rod from the ground—at least this weapon had a larger striking surface.
He was furious now, ready to show these people just what he was capable of.
