The mere presence of Instructor Fang was enough to intimidate the hungry, wolf-like soldiers. He picked up a pot and walked over to a sergeant, handing him the pot filled with beef stew. He paused, turned around, and glanced at his watch—1:10 PM. They had only ten minutes to eat. 0

Instructor Fang's expression was grim as he surveyed the crowd. A suspicious smile crept back onto his face. Anyone well-versed in psychology would understand that his smile did not bode well. Freya felt as if countless hands were stirring within her, and her left eye twitched uncontrollably. 0

"Time's up!" 0

As expected, it was a trap. The students licked their lips, clearly still hungry! 0

Instructor Fang waved at everyone and said, "Form two teams!" 0

With a single command from him, the two sides quickly organized themselves. Freyr glanced at both formations—red and blue teams—and found it quite peculiar. From his training and experience, he recognized that these formations had been deliberately arranged. The strengths of both teams were comparable, with some weaker individuals and others who were exceptionally strong. 0

"I didn't expect to be on the same team as you. I really don't know how the rules are determined. Are we supposed to go solo? I’m not afraid of anyone! But if it’s an intelligence contest, my scores are far behind," Xiong Tai remarked as he felt someone tap him on the shoulder from behind. With his hands stuffed in his pockets, he was amazed that he and Freyr ended up on the same team. 0

Freyr shook his head. Among his teammates on the Blue Team, aside from himself—the weakest individual—there were a few women who received special treatment. They weren't particularly strong but had the highest scores in assessments and were intellectually capable, likely possessing the potential to become Telepaths in the future. 0

In his past life, Freyr envied teams with Telepaths; his own team consisted only of a few weak individuals. 0

In war, individual strength wasn't everything; having a strong initiative from the start was crucial to remaining undefeated. 0

Although he ranked fairly well in his legion, compared to teams with higher prestige, every month the Joint Defense Force Headquarters distributed benefits. 0

These benefits could be weapons or personnel. 0

Training Telepaths was incredibly costly, and such special groups were exceedingly rare; only branches with high prestige could afford even one Telepath. 0

What is a Telepath? They are a unique group capable of turning premonitions into reality, some even claiming to be moving radars. 0

The hidden Zerg would be detected, with nowhere to hide and no control over their fate. 0

The battle among Telepaths was a contest of the mind. They could shield areas, aiding their teammates in achieving victory and enhancing survival rates during life-and-death missions. 0

In his past life, Freyr's teammates underwent constant turnover during missions, some never even having their names called by the end. A portion of their valuable combat strength quickly faded into eternal memory. 0

"Split into two factions: the Red Zerg and the Blue Alliance Heroes. The objective is not to be made clear. The time limit is until nightfall. The weapons used by the Blue Team will be provided by the officers, while the Red Team will don masks of the Zerg. During the course of the event, members of the Zerg are not allowed to speak; any violation will result in immediate disqualification. Both sides must tear off the insignia from each other's chests; anyone who fails to do so will be considered to have forfeited. The entire school will serve as a battlefield within the stipulated time frame. You may choose suitable hiding spots, and once it is completely dark, you will begin to organize the torn insignias in your possession. The victor will receive a B-Class Gene Pill." 0

The officer wore plastic gloves that concealed fingerprints and carefully retrieved a small pink pill from a secret box resting on a bronze pedestal. This was the mysterious B-Class Gene Pill mentioned by Instructor Fang. As soon as it was taken out of the box, which had been kept cool with dry ice at its base, a thin layer of frost immediately formed on its surface within seconds. 0

A Gene Pill? 0

Freyr was astonished; Gene Pills were extremely rare. They were said to be derived from materials extracted from the nearly lifeless brains of the Zerg, with particles forming through oxidation. The more precious the Gene Pill, the higher its source from advanced Zerg specimens. 0

A pink B-Class pill. 0

Most likely originating from Kongubog Insects, each brain could produce a single Gene Pill. The muscles of the Zerg were as hard as armor, and their flesh was inedible. Even their corpses could be transformed into valuable resources, smelting into new metals that were supermetals not yet discovered on Earth—bending capabilities and densities surpassing steel—and worth more than gold, with hardness rivaling diamonds. 0

It was possible that even a large insect's brain contained such material. To this day, humanity continued to study this phenomenon, which remained an unapproachable taboo in evolutionary biology. Some scientists referred to it as a realm sealed by divine forces. 0

Once humans consumed a Gene Pill, impurities within their bodies would be expelled as much as possible. The enhancements included not only muscle toughness and bone hardness but also significant improvements in immunity after taking the drug. It was as if this world granted abilities far beyond those of ordinary people—human killing machines that could rival vehicles in peacetime. 0

However, this Gene Pill was indeed mysterious; from the perspective of existing technology, ingestion or artificial creation had yet to reach such advancements. The only way to obtain these pills was through acquiring the remains of the Zerg. 0

And now! 0

The Zerg's influence covered the entire Earth, with most insects on land having mutated into relatives of the Zerg. It was once discovered that a giant ant-like creature had killed a well-developed elephant. This was not merely a mutation; the ants had undergone true evolution. In territories controlled by humans, encountering this ant group meant only one thing: defeat. The strength of ants in the natural world is renowned; they can lift objects weighing up to 400 times their own body weight. 0

The B-Class Gene Pill is an excellent medicine, significantly enhancing abilities! 0

However, it was clear that such efficient Gene Pills were exceedingly rare. To others, they were an object of envy, and even exchanging money for them was a disproportionate trade. Gene Pills above the B-Class level appeared as pink granules, with finer pills containing more concentrated nutritional value. 0

Freyr swallowed hard, determined to secure a place in this competition. 0

"Dismissed!" 0

Upon hearing Instructor Fang announce the dismissal, many assumed it marked the beginning of an ultimate elimination round. 0

Freyr walked alone to a sergeant adorned with a blue totem insignia on his chest. Beside him was a box. Without hesitation, Freyr opened it, revealing a suitcase. Frowning slightly, he rummaged through it and pulled out a helmet. He placed the helmet on his head, and with a click, it adjusted perfectly, securely enclosing his head. 0

Members from both factions gathered beside their respective sergeants. The two sergeants stood silently, seemingly uncommunicative. The Zerg's side had only one additional prop: a realistic mask that looked genuine down to its pores, crafted with extreme precision. 0

The Blue Team represented the Joint Defense Heroes, while the Red Team was the Zerg. At the start of the competition, the Zerg turned as one unit since humans were at a disadvantage on the battlefield. Even a single Sicklehook Jumping Bug could easily overpower an ordinary soldier. The Joint Defense Force's formidable weaponry consisted of three-meter-long mechs made from Insectoid Chitin Material and refined rare Super Krypton Metal, boasting hardness superior to steel. 0

However, simulated warfare offered advantages that far exceeded those of real combat. The Blue Team had little advantage here; Freyr quickly searched for hiding spots based on instructions from the card he had received. He had only thirty minutes to hide. Although this was a simulated battlefield game, the Zerg possessed exceptionally keen senses, especially some with developed compound eyes that acted like all-seeing detectors. 0

Freyr first reviewed the rules for the Joint Defense Heroes and then reread those for the Cosmic Zerg Forces. The stark disparity between both sides lay in technology. The helmets they wore seemed to contain transmitters, while the Zerg's masks functioned as advanced technological spectrograms. 0

"Damn it! Who set these rules?" Freya cursed inwardly as she glanced at the two rule cards—one blue and one red—typically distributed by sergeants to team leaders. The rules clearly stated that once read, they should be burned; team leaders would then gather their squads for command duties. 0

After all, engaging in combat was not Freyr's strong suit. He walked for a while before stopping. At that moment, he spotted a cluster of modern buildings nearby. The architecture was dense and bore a dark style—an excellent combat location—but if the true race were to arrive here, this aesthetic would likely be destroyed immediately. 0

The ground was covered with black limestone, and the protruding white stone cones were made of marble, the hardest type of mineral rock. Although it couldn't compare to diamonds, this material was still one of the most resilient against the ravages of nature. Its only drawback was that it would completely corrode when exposed to strong acid. Despite its seemingly solid appearance, attracting the Cosmic Worms here for a showdown was clearly not a wise move. 0

Freyr took a deep breath and continued walking. His helmet was equipped with a countdown timer, allowing him to check the time at any moment. Although he still had some time left, if he didn't find a good place soon, he would quickly be located by the Zerg. The technology of the Cosmic Worms far surpassed that of the Joint Defense Heroes, and they even had signal transmission devices at their disposal. 0

Little did he know whether the captain of the Cosmic Insect Faction would notice this advantage. After all, Freyr was well aware that in the last military training session, the Cosmic Worm faction had emerged victorious overall. Although Xiong Tai had fought until the end despite being injured, the score gap was too large, rendering the competition's outcome a foregone conclusion before time had even expired. In his previous life, the United Defense Heroes Camp had been a single-core team without any leader intervening; it was hard to remember who among them could hold out until the end, but one of them was definitely Xiong Tai. 0

"I still need to make contact," Freyr thought as he hid by the bushes and activated his communication device. 0

The communication device was divided into two rooms: one for the Cosmic Worm faction and another for the United Defense Heroes Camp. The two rooms would conflict with each other, so there would be no cross-talk. This technology had originally been developed for warfare to prevent eavesdropping by spies. 0

"Hey, calling anyone out there! If you're listening, respond, ver!" Freyr tried to say. The room felt anything but quiet; it resembled stepping into a basement where rustling sounds echoed back. This was due to encountering a natural barrier—the Sonic Barrier—likely because someone was near a stronger magnetic field, causing subtle reactions even in this room. 0

"Yes, you are my darling! Oh dear, oh dear! Like a rose among women!" Suddenly, a flattering voice blared from his helmet. Although it sounded like someone singing, Freyr felt it was more torturous than melodic; there wasn't even a basic tune. 0

"What the hell! I know my singing is terrible, but there's someone who sings worse! Step forward; I promise I won't kill you," came a rough voice from within. Freyr recognized it as Xiong Tai. 0

"My singing is none of your business; you're not better than me!" The flattering person suddenly retorted angrily. 0

"You motherf—! Our family has a broken voice; yours sounds like a Horn!" Xiong Tai burped loudly, and both sides immediately began hurling insults at each other. 0

"Enough already! Stop wasting time! I'm the captain of the United Defense Heroes Camp; my name is Freyr, ver!" If anyone had been nearby, they would have understood just how frustrated he felt hiding in the bushes while scratching at the bark. It was clear how intolerable Freyr found the inherent flaws within this team. 0
