"What do you want?" I asked coldly.
Chu Qi lowered her head, nervously twisting the hem of her clothes. "Jiang Wei, I'm pregnant with Lu Mingyuan's child."
"Is that so?" I responded lightly. "What does that have to do with me?"
Chu Qi looked up, surprised. "Jiang Wei, that's your child."
I laughed. "Chu Qi, you've deceived me for so long for Lu Mingyuan, and now you still want to fool me?"
"You’re the one who’s having Lu Mingyuan's child; it has nothing to do with me."
"But Lu Mingyuan wants a divorce."
Tears streamed down Chu Qi's face. "Jiang Wei, I was wrong. I truly realize my mistake."
"Please forgive me, okay?"
"I won't be so foolish again."
"I won't care about Lu Mingyuan anymore; I want to live well with you."
I shook my head. "Chu Qi, I told you, it's over between us."
"You chose Lu Mingyuan yourself; don't regret it."
"Stop clinging to me; it will only make me look down on you."
After saying that, I turned to leave.
Chu Qi rushed over and blocked my path.
"Jiang Wei, please don’t go. I'm begging you."
"If you don’t care about me, I’ll die."
Wu Yue approached and stood in front of Chu Qi.
"Ma'am, please step aside."
"Jiang Wei doesn’t want to talk to you; please have some self-respect."
Chu Qi glared at Wu Yue and shouted angrily, "Who are you? This is our family matter; it’s none of your business."
Wu Yue smiled. "I’m involved now; what are you going to do about it?"
"If you keep bothering Jiang Wei, do you believe I’ll call the police?"
Chu Qi fell silent.
She stared at me, her eyes growing more desperate.
I went upstairs, and Wu Yue followed closely behind.
"Your ex-wife is quite strange," Wu Yue remarked lightly. "At first, she was indifferent towards you."
"Now she seems concerned about which girl you're with."
"Isn't this contradictory?"
I sighed, "She probably feels guilty for what she did to me back then."
"Adults must take responsibility for their choices."
Wu Yue looked into the distance. "Jiang Wei, your leg is getting better."
"Recovery is hopeful; don't give up."
Lu Mingyuan came to me, kneeling in front of me, crying uncontrollably.
"Jiang Wei, I beg you, take Chu Qi away."
"She's a lunatic; she wants to kill me."
I looked at him coldly. "That's your problem; it has nothing to do with me."
"Jiang Wei, I was wrong."
Lu Mingyuan slapped himself in a frenzy. "I shouldn't have lied to Chu Qi, saying I had depression."
"I shouldn't have deliberately blocked you downstairs, almost causing your death."
"I'm even worse; I slandered your savior as your lover."
"Jiang Wei, hit me, curse me if you want."
"As long as it makes you feel better, do whatever you like."
I remained indifferent.
I did not respond to Lu Mingyuan.
Later, I moved away and never saw Lu Mingyuan again.
About a year later, a fire broke out in the community where Lu Mingyuan lived.
The flames were fierce, and thick smoke billowed.
Wu Yue drove by, and I clearly saw the scene.
Suddenly, I laughed.
How amusing.
"What are you laughing at?" Wu Yue asked curiously.
"Nothing," I shook my head. "I just think that some people do certain things and must pay the price."
The news quickly reported on the fire.
It was then that I learned that the fire was set by Chu Qi.
Before starting the fire, she tied Lu Mingyuan up in their home and stabbed him frantically with a knife.
Unable to endure it any longer, Lu Mingyuan broke free from Chu Qi and tried to escape.
Chu Qi did not pursue him; she ignited the gasoline and perished alongside Lu Mingyuan.
Lu Mingyuan was dead.
Chu Qi had also been severely injured in the fire and was hospitalized. I learned from Wu Yue that Chu Qi sought revenge on Lu Mingyuan because she discovered he had been deceiving her all along. Not only did he betray her feelings, but he also had other women on the side. Moreover, Lu Mingyuan often flaunted those women in front of Chu Qi, making her feel humiliated.
Chu Qi had cried to him more than once, but he remained indifferent. In her despair, she chose to die alongside Lu Mingyuan.
Hearing this made me feel unexpectedly lighthearted. I finally realized that I had been reborn. I was no longer influenced by my past life.
"Jiang Wei, what's wrong?" Wu Yue looked at me with concern. "You look unwell; are you feeling okay?"
"I'm fine."
I smiled and shook my head. "Wu Yue, I can stand up now."
I stood up from the wheelchair and took a few steps.
Wu Yue was stunned. "Jiang Wei, you really can stand!"
I nodded.
"This is simply a miracle."
Wu Yue rushed over and hugged me tightly. "Jiang Wei, you're amazing."
A warmth spread through my heart. Wu Yue's embrace was comforting and made me feel attached. I knew that my new life had begun.
