The sunlight faded, and Twilight descended.
Shiyunsheng crouched behind a thicket, carefully watching ahead.
"What is he doing in the Sky-Connecting Forest of the demon clan?" Zhao Yang wondered, surprised. Shiyunsheng was one of the few who could match him at this level, so his presence here must mean something significant.
Zhao Yang concealed his aura, intending to get closer and find out what was happening.
Shiyunsheng held a gem that looked extraordinary. After crouching for a moment, he stood up, cradling the gem in his hands. A strange incantation escaped his lips, and soon a Black Dark Door appeared before him. Without hesitation, Shiyunsheng stepped through it.
Zhao Yang followed closely behind, but as soon as he approached the Black Dark Door, it vanished without a trace. Immediately, Zhao Yang activated his Divine Sense to scan the surrounding environment. In his perception, a black door was rapidly moving away from the location, its speed akin to a gale.
Zhao Yang gathered his energy to pursue it, but suddenly noticed a large turkey in front of him, about the size of a cow. The turkey glared at him furiously and charged without warning.
"What’s going on?" Zhao Yang was taken aback. He had intended to track Shiyunsheng, but now he found himself being targeted by a turkey. Did he appear so weak that even a turkey wanted to eat him?
Besides, a turkey eating a person? That was an affront to his senses.
Zhao Yang struck down with his palm, aiming to knock the turkey down. To his surprise, when he made contact, it produced a resounding metallic clang.
The turkey seemed to realize that the young man before it was no ordinary opponent and took two steps back. One of its claws dug into the ground as it prepared to charge again.
Zhao Yang glanced toward where Shiyunsheng had disappeared and abandoned the idea of chasing after him. He turned his furious gaze back to the turkey and declared, "Whether you understand me or not, I must eat you today to vent my anger!"
The turkey glared at Zhao Yang and launched itself forward with powerful legs. Zhao Yang reached out slightly, using his strength to catch the charging turkey. He grasped its beak with both hands and with a loud crack, crushed it.
The turkey squawked in fear, flapping its wings frantically as it struggled to escape.
Zhao Yang scoffed; being bullied by a mere chicken was simply asking for trouble. Just when he was lamenting the lack of anything to feast upon, this opportunity presented itself. However, at that moment, an ominous feeling washed over him, a strong sense of danger gripping his heart.
Without a moment's hesitation, Zhao Yang vanished from sight, using Time Walk to distance himself from the area.
Moments before, the spot where he had stood had turned into scorched earth, two unfathomable beams of light piercing through the charred ground as if it were torn apart.
The turkey's eyes glowed with an eerie purple hue, as if it could see through the heavens and pierce the clouds.
Zhao Yang was utterly stunned. How could a turkey be so powerful?! It hadn't even transformed into human form; it was merely a dim-witted chicken yet possessed such abilities.
At that moment, the turkey radiated an otherworldly Purple Radiance, resembling a king. It turned to glance at Zhao Yang's location, its eyes flickering with Purple Radiance as it unleashed two beams of strange light. Zhao Yang dared not confront them and quickly dodged. As he evaded, the turkey suddenly opened its massive beak and unleashed a torrent of purple flames. The flames shot forth like arrows, tearing through the void and creating a massive rift. Zhao Yang's astonishment grew; this turkey was definitely not ordinary. It might be a mutated descendant of some Ancient Beast; otherwise, it wouldn't possess such formidable power.
A Supreme Dao Artifact quietly flew from his hand with a whoosh!
A cold light sliced through the air, causing the turkey's feathers to stand on end like a porcupine. Its plumage shimmered with a metallic sheen, resembling diamond; it sensed impending danger and activated its strongest defense.
With a thud!
The Supreme Dao Artifact, Inch of Light, pierced through the turkey's neck without any pause. Then, a small dagger gleaming with cold light appeared in Zhao Yang's hand.
Inch of Light was already an exceptional Supreme Dao Artifact. Now infused with Heavenly Crystal, its power surged exponentially—never missing its mark and capable of breaking through anything. Even true diamond would fall before its strike.
The turkey's neck was gushing with blood. It let out a whimper, swallowed a mouthful of blood, and looked towards where Zhao Yang was standing. Once again, it shot out a beam of Purple Radiance from its eyes. Zhao Yang had to dodge again; this chicken was strange, not an ordinary one, and its abilities were far too extraordinary, startling him.
Any ordinary cultivator facing this turkey would likely end up dead or severely injured. Zhao Yang felt a lingering fear at the sight of the Purple Radiance in the turkey's eyes. If he were hit, he would probably be left half-dead, as if struck by a death ray. He recalled an encounter in the Haotian Secret Realm with a Hell Python Bull, rumored to possess the ability to kill with a single glare. There were also tales of beasts with Death Rays in their eyes. Could this turkey possess such power?
Zhao Yang found it hard to believe that such a formidable skill could manifest in a turkey. Although he wasn't sure if the ray from the turkey's eyes was indeed a Death Ray, its power was certainly formidable enough to force him into constant evasions.
The turkey seemed enraged; its Purple Radiance grew even brighter, and the speed of its attacks increased rapidly, firing off like a machine gun.
Countless bullets whizzed past Zhao Yang.
"Damn it!" Zhao Yang exclaimed, exhausted. Evading such attacks required his body to react at lightning speed, which consumed an enormous amount of energy and left him utterly drained.
Cultivation merely enhanced one's physical strength and granted some peculiar abilities, allowing for maximum damage with minimal consumption—not zero consumption. Zhao Yang's evasive maneuvers were pushing the limits of human capability, resulting in significant fatigue, but this turkey was forcing him into such actions.
With a loud shout, crimson gold characters appeared around Zhao Yang's body. Even so, he dared not face the turkey's Purple Radiance head-on.
A massive fist descended from above and struck the turkey. However, the turkey's body felt as tough as steel; it flattened under the blow but quickly stood back up again. Its tenacity left Zhao Yang astonished.
After a while, the Purple Radiance in the turkey's eyes faded; it seemed tired from shooting so much and wobbled slightly on its legs.
"Ha ha, shot too much, huh?" Zhao Yang mocked as he hefted a large Stone Hammer onto his shoulder and brought it down hard on the turkey's head, causing stars to dance in its eyes.
Furious, the turkey's Purple Radiance reappeared. Before it could fire again, Zhao Yang struck it back down with another powerful swing of his hammer.
The turkey was furious, its beak crushed by Zhao Yang, and it was still bleeding. After being struck by Zhao Yang's hammer, it was left dazed and confused. Realizing that its opponent was formidable, the turkey knew it had to rely on its own skills to defeat him. Thus, it decided to engage the young man in a battle of endurance.
The turkey was confident; since its birth, it had faced tigers, lions, and even elephants without fear. No creature dared challenge it, and every attack against it felt like mere tickling. It possessed a true indestructible body, claiming the title of King of Beasts. With some intelligence, it speculated that it might be a representative of a great Demon Queen or even a born beast king, capable of standing alongside the ten great divine beasts. All surrounding creatures bowed to it; the Demon Empress was far away and could not restrain it. The vast Sky-Connecting Forest rivaled Zhongzhou, and with the heavens high above and the emperor distant, no one could control it.
Thus, this invincible creature found a strange thrill in its injury. In its rage and surprise, it was determined to use its unique abilities to kill the young man before it. It was a turkey with personality.
However, Zhao Yang's hammer came down again and again, preventing the turkey from unleashing its powerful Purple Radiance. Each time the light flickered to life, the young man would extinguish it with another strike, filling the turkey with frustration and anger.
What unfolded was a scene of Zhao Yang relentlessly hammering the turkey while the turkey stubbornly attempted to kill him with its gaze.
Once a beast gains intelligence, it can become foolish, losing its primal instincts. Many wise beings often commit foolish acts that are sometimes worse than those of mere animals.
It wasn't until Zhao Yang was drenched in sweat, his hands numb and his Stone Hammer showing cracks from overuse that the turkey finally realized it was losing consciousness.
At that moment, its head was filled with blood, and its eyes were clouded; it seemed nearly blind as brain matter oozed out. Yet despite this, it persisted in trying to shoot Zhao Yang down with its Purple Radiance.
Zhao Yang was truly shocked; he had hammered away more than eighty times and felt pain in his back. The turkey before him still glared furiously, showing no signs of retreat despite appearing blind with ruptured eyeballs.
In its final moments, the turkey let out a mournful cry. Its feathers stood on end as it suddenly shot them outwards. Zhao Yang quickly activated the Crimson Gold Characters' Imperial Scripture for defense, blocking several feathers moving at incredible speed but being knocked back several steps as his insides churned violently, nearly causing him to spit blood.
Then the turkey let out a final squawk and stared wide-eyed—dead.
Zhao Yang sighed in relief; this strange chicken had died in an equally bizarre manner, standing still without putting up any fight. It was undoubtedly the most unique creature he had ever encountered—not just unique for a chicken but for any being at all.
He was especially grateful that the chicken had plucked all its feathers by itself, saving him the trouble of doing it and bleeding it out.
After cleaning the turkey thoroughly, Zhao Yang devoured the turkey meat hungrily, holding salt and pepper in one hand while sprinkling it over the turkey roasting on the fire. His fingers moved eagerly, and he sighed with satisfaction as he ate.
"It came running out when I was hungry, just stood there for me to smash it to death, and even plucked its own feathers clean. This is a blessing from heaven; thank you, God," Zhao Yang said while eating, feeling immensely grateful for his good fortune.
In the distance, countless beasts were fleeing. Some Demon Cultivators who had taken human form shouted, "The Ancient Chicken King has been killed and eaten! Quick, report to the Tiger King!"
"Who could have killed the Ancient Chicken King? Although it only has the cultivation of the Nascent Soul Stage, it is a descendant of the ancient Great Demon, possessing an indestructible body by nature and the ability to unleash a Death Ray. Killing seasoned experts is a piece of cake for it. Could it be that the Demon Empress sent a Great Demon to kill it?" questioned some older Demon Cultivators.
The Sky-Connecting Forest was vast beyond measure. The Demon Empress was far away; even at full speed, it would take her several months to reach this place. Although the Ancient Chicken King served as a great Demon Queen and its combat power could rival that of the Demon Emperor Clan, it shouldn’t have warranted the attention of the Demon Empress sending someone to eliminate it.
Everyone knew that the combat power of the Demon Empress was unparalleled, reaching the pinnacle of demonkind since ancient times. While she had never intimidated all Great Demons across various realms, they all obeyed her without daring to defy her. Hundreds of years ago, during a coup within the Demon Emperor Clan, three princes imprisoned the Old Emperor and sought many Great Demons to overthrow the power of the Demon Emperor Clan. However, all of this ultimately turned to dust as they were eradicated by the now powerful Demon Empress. No one understood why she possessed such extraordinary combat power; it was incomprehensible.
Yet no one dared to disobey the orders of the Demon Empress. Was she planning to take action against Zhongzhou?
Some beasts speculated that the Demon Empress harbored grand ambitions and had once aimed to seize Zhongzhou to lead demonkind away from plagues and damp forests.
