Chapter 228: Prelude to Breaking the Formation 0

Deep within an ancient cave, Zhao Yang followed the Demon Empress to a radiant Evil Platform. Atop the platform stood an extraordinarily dazzling flower, immense in size. The Demon Empress gestured for Zhao Yang to join her on it. Following her lead, Zhao Yang stepped onto the platform, and moments later, the flower trembled and began to lift them upward, bringing them to a misty scene where they saw a luminous gate. 0

As they entered through the gate with the Demon Empress and the demon princess Bai Xi, they were met by a wall blocking their path. 0

With a gentle wave of her hand, the Demon Empress dispelled the barrier before them. A hint of confusion flickered in her eyes as she looked at Zhao Yang with hope. 0

Zhao Yang felt puzzled as well; after all, this was a strange place. He had already guessed that the reason the Demon Empress saved him was to rescue someone. However, her silence while leading him forward left him feeling somewhat frustrated, prompting him to speak up. "Excuse me, could you explain what's going on?" 0

The Demon Empress sighed and replied, "As you just witnessed, I easily dispelled several formations above us with sheer force. However, breaking the formations inside is increasingly difficult, each one more complex than the last. They require knowledge that is hard for ordinary people to comprehend. I spent ten years with an outsider who taught me about official land techniques. Your aura is exceptionally strong; you must be well-educated. I've been observing you for some time now. I have consulted many people to break this formation, but they all ultimately failed." 0

Zhao Yang chuckled at this. "So how can you be so sure that I can help you break it?" 0

The Demon Empress shook her head. "I can't be certain, but your movement technique is akin to teleportation, and you possess Power Rules. Therefore, I summoned all the priests from my clan to bring back your soul. Your physical body is remarkably strong; killing you would be quite difficult—at least not from a distance using Central Sovereign's attacks. He merely scattered your Divine Soul and body, which allowed me to retrieve your soul and seek your help in breaking this formation." 0

Zhao Yang asked, "What exactly happened after our last encounter? How long have I been unconscious?" 0

He had traversed through a disorienting time tunnel for what felt like ages but feared that his sense of time might be skewed by it. He wanted to confirm with the Demon Empress how much time had passed; if years had gone by and everything had changed, he would struggle to cope with such a blow. 0

Behind him, Princess Bai Xi spoke up. "Two years." 0

The Demon Empress added, "In these two years, I've visited Xuanfo Temple several times to check on you. Although your Divine Soul was separated from your body, your physical growth has been astonishingly rapid. To be honest, your rate of growth is extraordinary—perhaps unprecedented in history—but I have never seen anything like it in my life. Thus, I know there are many secrets within you yet to be discovered. I believe you have many life-saving methods that you haven't utilized due to your current cultivation level." 0

The Demon Empress's words struck a chord with Zhao Yang; he indeed possessed numerous life-saving techniques that he couldn't currently employ. Moreover, he felt a surge of anger at the absence of his greatest ally, Sun Wukong, which made him want to lash out at him. 0

Continuing her explanation, the Demon Empress said, "I have been observing your changes closely. During your state of apparent death, although your Divine Sense was weak and its spatial frequency was quite different from normal, if I'm correct, ordinary human cultivators cannot perceive it at all. Therefore, your Divine Sense is innately stronger than others'. Furthermore, its range and uniqueness have reached a level only Supreme Cultivators in the Tribulation Period can attain. I don't know why your Divine Sense is so powerful and expansive; I don't wish to pry into your secrets because everyone has their own mysteries that deserve respect. I saved you; now I need your help to break this formation and save someone." 0

Zhao Yang exhaled deeply; he hadn't expected the Demon Empress to be so verbose. "I'm quite skilled at breaking formations," he said casually. "But if my Little Nine were here, we could just jump in and bring back whoever you're looking for directly. Unfortunately, since I woke up, he's vanished—it's quite frustrating." 0

Upon hearing Zhao Yang mention Little Nine, Bai Xi frowned and asked, "Are you referring to your master?" 0

Zhao Yang furrowed his brow in response. "What do you mean 'my master'? Who do you think is worthy of being my master?" 0

Bai Xi seemed displeased with Zhao Yang's attitude and huffed indignantly. "A deity stands beside you; if he isn't your master, then where did all this fortune come from? If he isn't your master, does that mean you're his?" 0

Zhao Yang said, "Have you ever seen a master sleeping in the arms of a servant?" 0

Bai Xi replied, "It only sees you as a means of transportation; there's no need for you to feel proud about it." 0

"Fine, I can't be bothered to explain," Zhao Yang thought to himself, surprised that Bai Xi was such a quarrelsome woman, and a demoness at that. He felt frustrated and didn't want to engage with her. Zhao Yang knew that in arguments between two people, the truth didn't really matter; what mattered was who won, whose voice was louder, and who spoke last. He had long since stopped falling for that. 0

However, he was on the demon's territory and couldn't afford to show Bai Xi any disrespect. So he turned his face away from her. Bai Xi pouted and said, "Hmph, am I really that unattractive? You won't even look at me." 0

"Thanks, but I find your face particularly unappealing," Zhao Yang muttered under his breath, showing no regard for her feelings. 0

Bai Xi was furious and blocked Zhao Yang's path. "If it weren't for my father being here, I'd definitely kill you for speaking like that." 0

Zhao Yang chuckled, "Too bad your father is here; otherwise, you wouldn't be able to kill me. How many 'if's are there in this world?" 0

Bai Xi was infuriated by Zhao Yang's words. Light flickered from her palm as she prepared to strike him. Zhao Yang dodged just in time. Bai Xi, frustrated, attempted to suppress Zhao Yang with her superior cultivation level but found she couldn't even catch a glimpse of him, let alone overpower him. 0

"You can't hit me! You can't hit me!" Zhao Yang teased playfully. 0

Bang! 0

When Zhao Yang flashed in front of Bai Xi again, she landed a punch on his nose. Blood gushed out as he pointed at her and exclaimed, "You're ruthless! We just met, and you're already like this? Your father is waiting for me to break his formation!" 0

Bai Xi scoffed, "With your skills, you probably can't break it. My father has invited countless people to help him with it, and none have succeeded. Some issues require someone with extensive knowledge to solve; you're barely old enough to be my little brother." 0

"Wait, how old are you?" Zhao Yang asked curiously. 0

"One thousand twenty years old," Bai Xi replied with a number, her eyes sparkling with a hint of shyness as if she were waiting for Zhao Yang to compliment her youth. 0

"Oh my goodness!" Zhao Yang nearly fainted. He had called her 'little sister' in his mind; he had thought he could relate to this young lady, but his age was likely greater than that of her ancestors combined. 0

Bai Xi seemed to realize that mentioning her age might not be appropriate and added, "I'm still young; there are many things I don't understand. My father—well, my dad—sometimes calls me his little treasure." 0

After saying this, Bai Xi once again displayed a bashful expression while Zhao Yang felt utterly nauseated. Initially impressed by the beauty and high cultivation of the demon princess, he now realized she had some rather foolish traits. 0

Seeing the dazed look on Zhao Yang's face, Bai Xi remarked disdainfully, "Look at you being so clueless; how could you possibly save my mother? In the end, you'll probably just end up getting killed by my father." 0

"Ah? Your father's attitude seemed pretty good. Why would he kill someone for no reason?" Zhao Yang asked, a bit puzzled. 0

Bai Xi leaned closer to Zhao Yang, as if afraid someone might overhear, and whispered, "Everyone who couldn't break the formation is dead. Not a single one is left. My mother is trapped inside the formation." 0

Zhao Yang was startled. Partly because Bai Xi's slow, calm voice was a bit eerie, and partly because he realized that Bai Xi's mother was actually inside the formation. This reminded him of countless domestic violence cases and abuse incidents he had heard about in his past life. He glanced at the Demon Empress, who was breaking the formation ahead of them, and thought to himself, "She can't be a pervert, can she?" 0

"What did you say? What’s a pervert?" Bai Xi asked, confused by Zhao Yang's words. Having grown up in her clan, no one had ever dared to lie to her or even curse in her presence, so she didn't understand what a pervert was. 0

Clearly, Zhao Yang didn't view Bai Xi the same way he viewed Liu Rou; instead, he regarded her as an idiot and chose to ignore her. 0

At that moment, the Central Sovereign called out to them from the front of the formation. Zhao Yang looked up and saw a vast area before them filled with colorful formations and various strange lights intertwining together, creating a magnificent and breathtaking scene that was hard to resist. 0

The Demon Empress said, "This is it. The formations ahead can be broken as long as one's cultivation is high enough. However, the formations behind are impossible to break regardless of cultivation level. I've sought many people, including the Master of Formation; none could completely dismantle it. It's up to you now." 0

Zhao Yang was somewhat perplexed. "This is a formation?" 0

He never expected such beautiful formations existed in the world; they were truly stunning. If one could live inside them, it would make for a wonderful residence. 0

The Demon Empress sighed and said, "Indeed, this is a formation located in the Ancient Cave, known as one of the impenetrable formations." 0

Upon hearing that it was an impenetrable formation, Zhao Yang felt a bit distressed and thought to himself, "It's an impenetrable formation that can't be broken, yet here I am being asked to break it. Isn't this just looking for trouble?" 0
