A sense of realization washed over him as he observed Zhao Yang's dazed expression. He nodded and said, "This person must have some special method to awaken you from the darkness, while being banished into it himself. I have always said that everything in this world is equal; great power naturally comes with significant side effects."
Ghost Path analyzed the situation, for he could indeed feel Zhao Yang deeply immersed in his own Dark Exile space. A light smile appeared on his lips as he remarked, "Being invincible is, in fact, a kind of loneliness."
"Pah!" Scholar Xiu scoffed, his face filled with disdain and his voice slightly agitated. "You... you... can you not have a shred of dignity? Do you even realize how disgusting you are? A person without shame can conquer the world; you truly exemplify what it means to be shameless to the point of invincibility!"
Ghost Path chuckled lightly and said, "Aren't you afraid I might cast you into the darkness again, endlessly, never to return?"
Hearing Ghost Path's threat sent a shiver through Scholar Xiu's heart. He was indeed frightened and took two steps back to stand beside Zhao Yang. "Come at me then! Do you think I'm afraid of you?"
"Good!" Ghost Path coughed twice, green ghostly flames flickering in his eyes as he turned his gaze toward Scholar Xiu.
Scholar Xiu was taken aback, sensing the encroaching darkness once more. However, after waiting for a while, nothing changed around him.
"Eh?" Ghost Path exclaimed in surprise. "You actually managed to break free from my control!"
What he did not know was that Zhao Yang's Ripple of Enlightenment was still at work on them. Throughout this encounter, Ghost Path had never regarded these individuals as opponents but rather as mere puppets. Having grown up without friends, he had never cared about others' thoughts; life and death were no different from a game in his eyes. When he first discovered that Zhao Yang was not under his control, he felt no astonishment because during his time at Genius Academy, there were many geniuses who could resist the effects of Dark Exile. However, when his Dark Exile combined with Ghost Gate Space, no one at the same level could break through; the only way to counter it was if their Divine Sense was stronger than his or if their cultivation level far surpassed his.
"Die!" Scholar Xiu understood the function of Ripple of Enlightenment and received Ghost Path's confirmation. With a loud shout, he unleashed several sword lights from behind him. These sword lights were derived from a half-baked sword technique he had learned at Myriad Spirit Sect. Although their power wasn't great, having been charged for so long made them formidable.
"Shameful." To Ghost Path, it was incomprehensible that Scholar Xiu could associate with those around him. In his eyes, Scholar Xiu's attack was no different from ants crawling on his feet. Thus, he didn't even bother to look; with a graceful wave of his long sleeves, he effortlessly dispelled all the sword techniques.
However, he suddenly felt a tingling and sharp pain in his arm. Upon closer inspection, he found that a needle had pierced his flesh, and the area around the puncture quickly turned red and purple, spreading outward.
Ghost Path was furious; his body had always been frail, and he had fallen into such a trap due to carelessness. He immediately sealed his acupoints to expel the poisoned blood and floated towards Scholar Xiu like a specter. Yet Scholar Xiu showed no sign of fear on his face. As soon as Ghost Path approached him, he let out a muffled groan and was forced back. Around where Scholar Xiu stood, dozens of talismans lit up—these were Small Five Elements Talismans capable of unleashing attacks equivalent to those of Divine Transformation Stage cultivators. Generally speaking, they could restrain any type of cultivator but were particularly effective against those inclined toward dark or sinister attributes.
Naturally, Ghost Path suffered an injury from this strike; he could hardly believe that an existence he viewed as insignificant had wounded him twice.
"Alright, you’ve forced my hand!" Ghost Path nodded, his anger ignited. Within the Domain, he was the master; a momentary lapse did not signify anything. The Killing Techniques of the Ghost Gate Space activated, and one ghost after another surged from the surroundings, roaring with fury, their bodies emanating a chilling abyssal wail.
The three did not panic; instead, they huddled together, surrounding Zhao Yang in the center. When Zhao Yang had rescued them, he had directly used Divine Sense to enter the dark space, demonstrating his trust in them. They could not fail him.
Song Baliang recited a mental incantation and struck the ground with his palm. The Vajra Demon Suppression Formation ensnared all nearby ghosts, and then they began to strike, killing the ghosts one by one. As more and more ghosts appeared, Song Baliang felt helpless. He expended a large amount of True Qi to manifest the Vajra Battle Body. Having practiced the Buddhist Sect's Cultivation Method for a long time, he naturally radiated a demonic-repelling Buddhist light. The Vajra Battle Body was one of the forms that suppressed demons, thus amplifying his power against the ghosts. For a time, the ghosts could only circle around him, too afraid to attack.
With a loud roar, Ghost Path descended from the dark clouds, moving in an erratic and abrupt manner that left no trace behind. His movement technique was a unique skill of Ghost Path; no one at his level could compare. However, something even more perplexing occurred—Scholar Xiu struck at his nose with an open palm!
Ghost Path staggered back in shock, blood streaming from his nose. He could not comprehend how such weak individuals could see through his attack.
Meanwhile, Scholar Xiu was laughing inwardly. He thought to himself, "So this is what it feels like to be in the Enlightenment Realm during battle! To fight against someone of a higher level so easily and see through their techniques—everything around me seems to slow down. I can see the dust in the air and even the slightest changes in my surroundings. I feel like a god, brimming with confidence and capable of anything."
At that moment, Scholar Xiu experienced the benefits brought by the Enlightenment Realm: an unremarkable ability but one that allowed for meticulous observation. It was this keen observational skill that enabled him to make calm and accurate judgments in any perilous situation.
The scholar was hooked and wanted to press forward. While walking among mortals, he had only heard of someone named Tiandao from Genius Academy but had never heard of Ghost Path. However, since Ghost Path dared to share a name with Tiandao, it was evident that he was an extraordinary master from Genius Academy. Indeed, Ghost Path was recognized as the second strongest after Tiandao.
Yet here was Scholar Xiu under the Enlightenment Realm striking him down.
With clenched fists, Scholar Xiu launched himself off the ground and charged toward Ghost Path, who stood on a nearby rocky hill—he was taking the initiative!
However, what puzzled Scholar Xiu was that Ghost Path did not make a move or take any action; he simply allowed Scholar Xiu's fist to come at him.
Scholar Xiu assumed that Ghost Path would respond somehow. Under the influence of the Enlightenment Realm, he could easily see through others' techniques and intentions. But what if someone chose not to move? What kind of technique would that be?
A brief hesitation, lasting less than a second, was all it took before Scholar Xiu was struck in the chest by a powerful punch. His sternum collapsed, and he was sent flying back, landing in the mud and losing consciousness.
Ghost Path was formidable, strong enough that a single strike could kill any Ordinary Cultivator, let alone a somewhat frail Scholar Xiu. Scholar Xiu coughed up blood and realized that his broken ribs left him unable to move. If it weren't for the protective powers of the Yellow Dragon Jade, he would have surely died.
Song Baliang rescued Scholar Xiu from the mud pit and placed him beside Zhao Yang. He then took the initiative to attack, his Vajra Battle Body causing him to radiate golden light, resembling a war deity descending upon the battlefield. The brilliance was so intense it seemed ready to shatter the heavens, stirring up boundless winds and waves.
With just one strike, rocks shattered and mountains trembled as Ghost Path's figure suddenly fled, unwilling to confront Song Baliang head-on. However, Song Baliang pursued relentlessly. Ghost Path was alarmed and created shadow clones, scattering in all directions. Although Song Baliang was influenced by the Enlightenment Realm and could discern the differences between the real body and its clones with careful observation, facing such tactics for the first time left him somewhat bewildered. He swung a punch at one of the Ghost Path clones, which shattered into black mist that wrapped around Song Baliang's arm. Even with the enhancement of the Enlightenment Realm allowing him to see how the mist operated, he couldn't evade it!
The Shadow Clone vanished as Ghost Path emerged from the shadows below, thrusting a Black Giant Sword toward Song Baliang. With both hands together, Song Baliang clamped down on the Black Sword. Ghost Path lightly shook the hilt, causing Song Baliang's grip to falter and his hands to split open. Then with a palm strike, he pushed Song Baliang backward.
Song Baliang shot away like an arrow, crashing into a mountainside that crumbled upon impact. He burst forth from the debris, still glowing with golden light, but blood trickled from his mouth and there were signs of injury on his chest; he was seriously hurt.
"This is within his Domain. Even with Zhao Yang's Enlightenment Realm supporting us, our unfamiliarity with it makes it impossible to defeat Ghost Path. His attacks are amplified within Ghost Gate Space," Song Baliang communicated telepathically to Nangong Wuxin, who had remained silent throughout. After speaking, he spat out more blood; his injuries were severe, and he felt immense pain in his chest. Ghost Path's attacks seemed to magnify a cultivator's suffering—despite being a Vajra Battle Body adept who usually felt little pain, he found Ghost Path's strikes unbearable.
Song Baliang felt an urge to pound his chest in frustration; he was not someone who sought trouble yet found himself beset by so many powerful foes. This made him want to forge a complete set of Dao Artifacts; if he were clad entirely in Supreme Dao Artifacts—clothes, shoes, prayer beads, even underwear—he would be invincible wherever he went and wouldn't fear Ghost Path at all. With this thought in mind, Song Baliang resolved that if he ever had time in the future, he would definitely forge such a set!
Once more, Song Baliang charged forward; he couldn't give Ghost Path any chance to deal with Zhao Yang and Nangong Wuxin. He approached Ghost Path again as it prepared another palm strike amidst swirling shadows and dense black mist. For some reason, Song Baliang felt as though his strength had been drained away completely; an overwhelming sense of powerlessness washed over him as another palm struck his chest, sending him flying back thousands of meters.
With a roar of fury, Song Baliang surged forward again. This time he was enraged and unleashed his utmost power. As he neared Ghost Path, he activated the Vajra Demon Suppression Circle's binding technique to immobilize Ghost Path. Startled, Ghost Path met Song Baliang's fists head-on; there was a thunderous crash as Ghost Path's wrist shattered while Song Baliang's remained intact.
Having successfully landed a blow, Song Baliang aimed to continue locking onto his enemy for further attacks; however, Ghost Path's figure suddenly vanished under the cover of Ghost Gate Space. Despite being influenced by the Enlightenment Realm once more, Song Baliang still couldn't perceive where Ghost Path had gone because within the Domain of Ghost Gate—as long as that Domain remained intact—what did it matter if they could see through Ghost Path's movements?
