Chapter 179: Watching the Show
Outside Heavenly Mechanism Mountain, some cultivators only saw a black dot flying out from the flames. A wave of shockwaves erupted, scattering countless treasures, including several Dao Artifacts. Many envious cultivators rushed to seize them, and the atmosphere turned chaotic at the edge of Heavenly Mechanism Mountain.
The Central Sovereign issued an order that no one was to interfere with the events inside Heavenly Mechanism Mountain. Some high-ranking members of various sects anxiously watched the interior, fearing that their prized disciples might fall victim to unforeseen dangers. After all, with a competition involving millions, anything could happen in an instant.
Zhao Yang held two eye orbs of the Flame Sun Python, shrunk down by his size manipulation technique. The endless power of the blazing sun transformed into the purest Dao Fire, continuously pouring into Zhao Yang's body. He felt an overwhelming surge of strength, summoning flames at his fingertips. The originally blue True Fire gradually shifted, transforming into a deeper shade of Earth Fire.
Zhao Yang gazed at the chaotic scene at the edge of Heavenly Mechanism Mountain and flew upward towards the floating mountain bodies halfway up.
Uncertain about the peculiarities of those mountains, Zhao Yang did not rush to ascend. Instead, he found a cliff obscured by rocks and sat down, taking out the Flame Sun Python's eyes. He focused on absorbing the boundless power of the blazing sun.
Flames surged around Zhao Yang, igniting his clothes and soon producing a burnt smell.
The power of the blazing sun was overwhelmingly strong, far exceeding that of Earth Fire. Although there was still a gap compared to Heavenly Fire, Zhao Yang struggled to control it perfectly, resulting in his clothes and hair emitting a burnt odor.
He removed his clothing and placed the sleeping Little Beast beside him, carefully feeling the Dao Fire emanating from the Flame Sun Python's eyes—sometimes gentle, sometimes ferocious. His pores opened wide as he absorbed the fiery essence radiating from those eyes.
Before long, strange phenomena began to manifest around Zhao Yang. A dark silhouette appeared above him, surrounded by mountains of bones and seas of blood; however, this vision lasted only a moment before vanishing.
If someone were to appear on the cliff at that moment and witness this scene, they would not harbor any lewd thoughts because he was enveloped in blazing sunlight. The power of the sun caused the surrounding rocks to emit a hazy glow.
Meanwhile, Little Beast remained oblivious, nestled among Zhao Yang's clothes with an adorably cute face, soundly asleep.
Two days later, Zhao Yang opened his eyes, shooting two beams of fiery light toward the distance. The flames around him had vanished; he returned to his original state. With a flick of his fingers, a dark purple Earth Fire reduced a cold plum tree on the cliff before him to ashes.
In the distance, a mountain peak fractured and fell with a thunderous roar.
Below, countless people screamed in agony—a large group of White-Clad Cultivators stood proudly with swords in hand. Beneath their feet lay individuals dressed in various colors. They wore expressions of arrogance; if Zhao Yang were present, he would surely recognize these well-dressed White-Clad Cultivators.
Just two days prior, they had arrived in the imperial city and encountered this group while attempting to enter Sky One Tower. Now their numbers had increased significantly to over a hundred.
All were students from Genius Academy, each one at the Core Formation Stage.
Before these hundred Genius Academy students stood one individual wielding a large stick over his shoulder. He faced more than a hundred experts with fierce determination in his gaze as he confronted them head-on.
The person in question was Song Baliang.
"Let me find you all for a moment! No wonder my back was itching; it turns out it was your swords!" Song Baliang's voice was filled with anger. Two days ago, he had been charged at by this group of people on horseback in the street, and for no reason, he had received dozens of sword strikes to his back. At that time, his injuries were not yet healed, and his senses were dulled. He could hardly feel any pain in his body, and there was a constant roaring sound in his ears, a result of the injuries sustained in the Extermination of Immortals and Demons Formation.
He had no idea who had dressed him up like a performer, crying and running away like a woman. It was simply too humiliating. He wasn't particularly handsome to begin with, and being made to look like this was a blow he couldn't bear. So he ran to the riverbank and looked at his reflection in the water, only then realizing that his back was filled with swords.
Furious, he intended to seek revenge on those people, but as a newcomer, he got lost while trying to navigate through the twists and turns, moving further away from Sky One Tower.
Later, when Heavenly Mechanism Mountain opened, Song Baliang still couldn't find anyone from Xuanfo Temple. Seeing that everyone else was entering, he had no choice but to rush inside. At the same time, he spotted some disciples from Genius Academy.
However, upon entering Heavenly Mechanism Mountain, he found himself surrounded not by the disciples of Genius Academy but by a group of burly men from the Barbarian King Hall, wielding drumsticks and laughing lightly at him. These individuals were all Foundation Establishment Stage and Core Formation Stage cultivators; naturally, no one could match him.
Song Baliang fought fiercely against them until they were left incapacitated. From their leader, he seized a bone staff that looked as white as jade and slung it over his shoulder as he set off in a certain direction. As he approached the outskirts of Heavenly Mechanism Mountain, he saw the group of students from Genius Academy.
He planted his Divine Sense on the leading student to track their location; according to his perception, that person was nearby.
When Song Baliang arrived, these students had subdued several disciples from the Five Great Sects as well as some Loose Cultivators, all lying on the ground. Among them were neither members of Xuanfo Temple nor anyone from Falling Flower Valley; they were all men—no women present.
Thus unfolded the next scene.
Before over a hundred students from Genius Academy stood Song Baliang alone, holding a large stick on his shoulder. He faced off against more than a hundred experts with an intense glare.
"That's the idiot who feels no pain! He must have some kind of defensive treasure; otherwise, how could our Flying Swords fail to pierce his flesh?" one of the Genius Academy students said to their leader.
The Leader nodded and addressed Song Baliang: "You idiot! Just hand over your treasures and leave; I don't want to kill you. Killing someone like you would be a disgrace."
Just as the Leader finished speaking, one of the people beneath him suddenly sprang up, brandishing a gleaming purple dagger aimed at his heart. The Leader scoffed and seized the man's wrist; with just a slight exertion of force, it shattered instantly. The man screamed and kicked at the Leader, who glared furiously before kicking his head clean off—an utterly horrifying scene.
At that moment, those beneath Genius Academy began to struggle and resist. One agile individual managed to escape from under a Genius Academy disciple's feet. The disciple merely raised one hand in response, sending that person flying back into his grasp.
A strange weapon protruded from the man's chest as he lowered his head in shock; blood trickled from his mouth as he fell victim to that Genius Academy disciple's attack.
The gruesome death of this disciple immediately incited resistance among others.
"You Genius Academy people dare to kill? The Ten Thousand Methods Conference has always prohibited killing! You disregard the rules and provoke conflict; if millions of cultivators start fighting, Zhongzhou will surely suffer great losses! Who will take responsibility then?" shouted one cultivator in an attempt to intimidate those from Genius Academy with words.
"Kill! Leave no one alive!" commanded the Leader of Genius Academy in a deep voice. "If we kill them all, then no one will know."
Outside the Heavenly Mechanism Mountain, some of the elders were already furious. Although they could not see the specific situation inside the Heavenly Mechanism Mountain, some of them possessed exceptionally strong Divine Senses and could perceive what was happening outside.
"Aside from the explosion two days ago that killed some people, it was the people from the Genius Academy who struck first!" shouted a cultivator at the Nascent Soul Stage.
In truth, everyone understood that as long as there was a major battle at the Heavenly Mechanism Mountain resulting in deaths, war would be imminent. For the past two days, they had been waiting, each faction adhering to their masters' advice, not wanting to provoke a war due to actions taken by their own sect members.
However, in some areas where treasures had appeared in abundance, battles were inevitable; injuries were to be expected during treasure hunts. In relatively peaceful regions, people remained restrained. But once someone’s friend or Senior Brother was killed, hatred would inevitably arise, escalating until everyone was fighting.
Yet, such matters did not concern Azure Cloud Palace, You Xian Sect, or Genius Academy. The sword cultivation sect Azure Cloud Palace had one hundred thousand disciples; if a full-scale battle broke out under unified command, they could annihilate all other cultivators. You Xian Sect had fifty thousand disciples, all skilled in control; if they attacked en masse, no other sect would stand a chance. Although Genius Academy had only ten thousand members, each one was a child of nobles or high-ranking officials, equipped with precious artifacts and dazzling offensive and defensive techniques. Some among them even mastered the ultimate skills of the Five Major Sects; they were all elite disciples.
Song Baliang watched as the members of Genius Academy slaughtered hundreds of disciples from other sects in an instant. Frowning, he said, "Amitabha! Are you really going to kill them all? Do you think those Old Scruffies outside Heavenly Mechanism Mountain can't see or hear this?"
"And so what if they can?" The leader of Genius Academy sneered with disdain. "You people form cliques and establish your so-called sects, disrupting Zhongzhou's order. Everyone knows the purpose of this Ten Thousand Methods Conference; do you think you can come in and leave?"
Song Baliang already harbored a vague suspicion in his heart about this matter. However, no one dared to speak it aloud; fear lingered in everyone's minds. The legend of the Central Sovereign was well-known—over millennia, the Central Sovereign had oppressed Three Thousand King City and intimidated all sects.
The cultivation world was filled with countless oddities and geniuses, numerous ancient beings and old monsters. It could determine who was the strongest under heaven and who was invincible across realms. Yet no one dared to include the Central Sovereign in such discussions because he was truly unmatched; he held dominion over all realms and knew every sect's ultimate techniques—no one could rival him.
