Chapter One Hundred Sixty-Seven
In the very center of the Haotian Secret Realm, layers of mist enveloped the area, with towering stone walls standing tall. Surrounding them were numerous stone tablets, each inscribed with the same four characters: Hao Tian Realm.
The ancient and majestic stone walls encircled the Hao Tian Realm, resembling an ancient kingdom.
Zhao Yang and Song Baliang emerged from the mist into the Hao Tian Realm. The rustic and weathered scenery unfolded before their eyes, a grand and magnificent sight that left both Zhao Yang and Song Baliang momentarily stunned.
On the outskirts of the Hao Tian Realm lay many lowly graves, each accompanied by a tablet.
In the distance, figures moved about. Song Baliang soared into the air, navigating through the cluster of tombs, eager to reach the location where they would compete for the Haotian Pill. However, when he turned back, he found Zhao Yang standing still among the graves, his expression peculiar.
"What’s wrong, Junior Brother?" Song Baliang asked, sensing that Zhao Yang had discovered something.
Zhao Yang pointed at the cluster of graves before him. "There’s something strange about these graves. At first glance, they seem scattered, but in reality, they align with the principles of the Eight Trigrams and Nine Palaces. The arrangement is deliberate; only the northern direction is vacant—there isn’t a single tombstone there. If I’m not mistaken, this layout must correspond to some kind of formation, but I can’t figure out what its purpose is."
As Zhao Yang spoke, he examined the inscriptions on the tombstones more closely.
"Haotian, why haven’t you come back yet?"
"Brother Tian, Dandan said if you don’t return soon, she’ll marry A Niu."
"Dandan called your name until her last breath."
"Do you have loved ones here? We grew up together."
"Three Sons, everyone misses you so much. Why haven’t you returned?"
"Three Sons, if one day you come back, make sure to visit your elder brother’s grave and light some incense. Tell me what you’ve experienced over these years."
Zhao Yang read through these inscriptions one by one. They formed a circle with three directions. On a tombstone in the due south was a person named Yun Dandan. Unlike others, this tombstone bore an additional character—Door.
Zhao Yang couldn’t comprehend it or decipher its meaning. He moved to the right and saw another tombstone in the due east inscribed with "At." There was no tombstone in the due north, while in the due west stood a tombstone engraved with "Life."
"Junior Brother, if you can’t make sense of it, just let it go. I don’t see anything unusual either; everyone has already entered. It seems something has been activated in the Hao Tian Realm," Song Baliang urged Zhao Yang with a hint of impatience in his voice.
Zhao Yang nodded and soared into the sky alongside Song Baliang, heading towards the gathering of heads in the Hao Tian Realm.
Within the Hao Tian Realm, many cultivators had already gathered, around eight hundred in total. These individuals were the elite among the elite, and those who could reach the central area of the Haotian Secret Realm, even if they were just trying their luck within a team, certainly possessed some level of ability. In the cultivation world, the weak are preyed upon by the strong; no team would tolerate the presence of useless members.
At the center of the Hao Tian Realm stood a towering wall, adorned with an Array consisting of 100x100 squares, totaling 10,000 squares. It appeared ancient and weathered yet was filled with vitality.
Many people looked up at Zhao Yang and Song Baliang with expressions of hostility and disdain.
"Here come two more trying to get a share, and they're just two monks, hum!" one cultivator scoffed, revealing his displeasure.
"Do they really think they can snatch the Haotian Pill? How arrogant! With over eight hundred of us divided into four teams, I say we should kick these two outsiders out," another cultivator remarked, glaring at Zhao Yang and Song Baliang.
As Zhao Yang and Song Baliang descended from the sky, they swiftly killed the speaker. They were not afraid of angering anyone; Zhao Yang knew that in such situations, most people preferred to avoid trouble. Thus, he acted decisively, slaying the man without a sound. Some powerful cultivators frowned but chose not to speak further.
"Since both of you have arrived at the Hao Tian Realm, you are considered part of us. Before us lies an Array. Ancient texts say that within these 10,000 squares lie hidden mysteries. Each person can only open one square at a time; otherwise, it could cause the collapse of the Hao Tian Realm. Those who attempt to choose twice will be cursed to death by this place's restrictions. With only about eight hundred of us here, we are far from a thousand. Anyone who enters the Hao Tian Realm can join us; after all, if luck is against us and no one opens anything good from this Array, then what was the point of coming?" a figure standing beneath the Array addressed everyone.
Some cultivators nodded in agreement while secretly plotting that if these two opened the Haotian Pill, they would kill them for their treasures.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Yang couldn't help but mutter to himself: "It's just a matter of probability again. In my past life, I bought countless three-digit lottery tickets and never won with even a one-thousandth chance. How could I possibly win with a one-in-ten-thousand chance now? Since the Haotian Immortal set up this test, it must be designed for others to obtain the Haotian Pill; it can't be fair and give everyone an equal opportunity."
A burst of light swept out from the Rectangular Array, enveloping everyone present. In an instant, they found themselves unable to move. Then a grand voice echoed from above.
"A one-in-ten-thousand chance—life or death, or becoming someone extraordinary. Make your choices wisely."
The voice was deep and powerful, shaking their eardrums. No matter how strong Zhao Yang's Divine Sense was, he couldn't discern where the voice originated from. He felt uncomfortable being unable to move; if those who set this array intended to annihilate them, it seemed unlikely anyone would escape.
With ten thousand squares available for selection and only eight hundred people present, their chances of selecting the Haotian Pill were less than one in ten. Zhao Yang frowned in confusion as he spread his Divine Sense to observe various terrains and arrangements around him.
The cultivators murmured among themselves, unsure which choice to make since each opportunity among ten thousand offered no clear outcome.
Soon enough, a bold Young Cultivator made his choice.
"I choose the first square!" The boy exclaimed with fiery determination in his eyes.
Ding!
A soft sound echoed as the first cell of the Rectangular Array opened, revealing a Crimson Flying Sword. A radiant glow enveloped the sword, and its blade was covered in intricate runes, infused with powerful Spirit Energy.
"It's a Low-Level Dao Artifact!" a cultivator exclaimed in surprise.
The others gasped in awe, their expressions filled with envy. However, they were all frozen in place, unable to snatch it away. The Crimson Flying Sword, imbued with intelligence, flew directly to the first Young Cultivator who dared to choose. The boy lightly touched the sword with his fingertip, and it immediately transformed into a red light that danced around him like a Flood Dragon.
"I choose the second cell!" another boy declared excitedly. He felt a rush of anticipation; after all, if the first person had found a Low-Level Dao Artifact in the first cell, surely something equally impressive awaited him.
Ding!
With another soft sound, the second cell of the Rectangular Array opened, releasing a core that radiated immense True Qi. As soon as the core appeared, it vanished from sight and reappeared before the boy, emitting a gentle glow as it slowly merged into his body.
"Is that the Haotian Pill?!" one cultivator shouted, believing that the legendary pill had manifested.
"It's some kind of powerful Demon Beast Core that can be fused!" another quickly explained. The power of the Haotian Pill was unparalleled; it wouldn't simply merge with a cultivator like this. Even so, it sparked envy among them. "He actually fused with it!"
The boy sat calmly; he had already reached the Foundation Establishment Great Perfection stage and was just one step away from entering the Core Formation Stage. He had been searching for Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures to fuse with, and now he had finally found a powerful Demon Beast Core to forge his Golden Core's rough form. Once he fused with this formidable core, he would immediately enter the Core Formation Stage and be transported out by the rules of the Haotian Secret Realm.
