In the Haotian Secret Realm, the Full Moon hung high in the sky.
Zhao Yang awakened from his trance of Enlightenment, realizing that seven days had passed.
During these seven days, the golden light surrounding Zhao Yang had not faded. The Ripple of Enlightenment expanded like waves, growing ever more powerful until it felt like a strong wind brushing against him, causing his Robe to flutter like a banner in the breeze.
Once the protective formation around the Earth Spirit Spring dissipated, an open space appeared above the hall, perfectly illuminating Zhao Yang's position. The moonlight cascaded down upon him, making his delicate features resemble those of a neighborly youth—ethereal and untainted.
As the Enlightenment Wave gradually subsided, Zhao Yang opened his eyes and saw Song Baliang sitting nearby in a dignified posture. He too was radiating extraordinary colors; faint traces of indomitable power shimmered on his bronze skin as his cultivation steadily progressed.
After completing a cycle of True Qi circulation, Song Baliang sensed that the Ripple of Enlightenment had vanished. He awoke from his meditation and, upon looking at Zhao Yang, couldn't help but gasp in astonishment. "Junior Brother, your cultivation..."
Zhao Yang nodded and replied, "I have reached the ninth layer of Foundation Establishment Stage; I am just one step away from perfection."
"How could it be so fast!" Song Baliang exclaimed, his expression filled with shock. In just seven days, Zhao Yang had advanced from the seventh layer to the ninth layer of Foundation Establishment Stage. Such speed was beyond what even the most talented geniuses he knew could achieve!
"This is actually slow," Zhao Yang explained. "The Enlightenment Realm can enhance cultivation speed. Moreover, Earth Spirit Spring is a Heavenly Material and Earthly Treasure. If an ordinary cultivator were to absorb this much Earth Spirit Spring at once, they could leap over a major realm. My master once said that the highest realm of Enlightenment can lead to immediate Ascendancy. If my Chaotic Root weren't so unique, I wouldn't be this slow." Zhao Yang spoke truthfully; although Earth Spirit Spring was not a divine object, it was still classified as Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures. Consuming it could significantly boost one's cultivation and offer many hidden benefits. Reaching the ninth layer of Foundation Establishment Stage in seven days while under the Enlightenment Realm was not particularly fast.
Song Baliang had yet to touch upon the domain of Enlightenment and thus did not understand its significance for cultivators. Nevertheless, he had reached the ninth layer of Qi Refinement Stage due to training alongside such a prodigy in the Enlightenment Realm, which allowed his cultivation speed to double or even reach ten times faster.
"Chaotic Root? I've never heard of it before. While the primary Spiritual Root attributes in Five Elements Continent are Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, there are also five celestial Spiritual Roots: Wind, Rain, Thunder, Lightning, and Ice. Additionally, there are various other types of Spiritual Roots summarized by sect elders over thousands of years—Heavenly, Earthly, Mysterious, Yellow, Netherworldly, Clear, Turbid, Poisonous... all derived from basic Spiritual Roots. But I've never encountered anything called Chaotic Root."
Zhao Yang sighed and clarified: "Chaotic Root is not a type of Spiritual Root; rather, it encompasses all Spiritual Roots combined." He did not conceal this fact because he knew that if he revealed it openly, no one would believe him. Once secrets are out in the open, curiosity fades; they become mere topics for conversation. He understood people's thoughts all too well.
"Really?" Song Baliang was skeptical as he looked at Zhao Yang's serious expression with uncertainty in his heart. "If it truly includes all Spiritual Roots, then how slow would your cultivation speed be? Without Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, wouldn't that make you practically useless? Can you always encounter treasures like Earth Spirit Spring? Even with the enhancement from Enlightenment Realm, it shouldn't be this fast!"
Zhao Yang got up and, through his Divine Sense, sensed that Little Beast was sprawled out, sound asleep at the bottom of the dried-up Earth Spirit Spring. He picked up Little Beast and was surprised to find that it had grown a little bigger than before; he couldn't tell if it was just his imagination.
"Junior Brother, what exactly is your spirit beast? It doesn't look like a mouse or a cat, but it certainly seems quite intelligent," Song Baliang asked curiously.
Zhao Yang shook his head. "I don't know either, but it has a name—Little Nine. It's not a name I gave it; it knows its own name."
"Really? A spirit beast that names itself? That's strange. There are several books in the Scripture Repository of Xuanfo Temple, like the Spirit Beast Register, Holy Beast Register, and Divine Beast Ranking List. I should check them out when we return; maybe I'll uncover the identity of this Little Beast. I have a feeling it's not ordinary," Song Baliang said, staring intently at Little Beast.
"Chirp Chirp." Little Beast murmured in its sleep, letting out sweet sounds.
Zhao Yang glanced at the sleeping Little Beast and wondered what had happened to it. However, he was certain it wasn't anything bad, so he tucked it into his arms.
The two of them leaped out from the opening above the main hall and found themselves on top of a large mountain behind Desolate Village. The mountain was filled with giant pythons and various poisonous insects, and there were many dead cultivators on the ground. Some had insects crawling out of their mouths and noses, looking horrifying. Zhao Yang couldn't help but frown; he soared into the air to avoid seeing such sights.
The central area of Haotian Secret Realm was close at hand; they could reach it by crossing a few mountains. Mist shrouded the central region, but rays of light burst forth from within. From a distance, Zhao Yang could see traces of Flying Swords cutting through the sky.
Suddenly, two massive birds descended from the sky like mountains, their eyes blood-red with sharp claws and beaks aimed at Zhao Yang and Song Baliang. Bloodied fragments of robes clung to their beaks, clearly indicating they had just fed on humans. "It's Vultures! Known as the guardians of the desert! What are they doing here?" Song Baliang exclaimed in shock.
Zhao Yang's gaze sharpened as he focused on the Vultures. With a slight movement of his right index finger, a gleaming dagger appeared in his hand.
Whoosh!
A streak of cold light pierced through the air, shooting through one Vulture's eye. In an instant, its eyeball shattered. The Vulture let out a shrill cry as it plummeted to the ground like a mountain, shaking off several arrow feathers in a furious attempt to retaliate as it fell.
Zhao Yang and Song Baliang easily dodged the attack. Zhao Yang glared at the other Vulture in the sky and shouted, "You blind beast, get lost!"
Another Vulture saw its companion fall and heard Zhao Yang's scolding. It immediately swooped down fiercely. Zhao Yang snorted, "You want to spare yourself? Not a chance; you’re asking for death!"
As the afterimage shattered, Zhao Yang gained a new understanding of Time Walk. His speed was faster than ever before, and in a single step, he appeared above the Vulture. Raising his fist overhead, an immense storm of energy surged toward him.
Boom!
The Vulture's massive head exploded, and it flapped its wings twice before plummeting to the ground. Song Baliang was taken aback; he hadn’t expected his junior brother to be so formidable. Not only did he possess physical strength that could rival his own, but his attack power was also incredibly fierce. It seemed like an ordinary punch, yet it could manipulate the elemental energies of heaven and earth. Could it be true what he claimed—that his Spiritual Root contained all attributes, allowing him to draw upon all elements around him at will?
"No wonder ordinary cultivators can't enter here. These beasts are at the peak of Foundation Establishment Great Perfection. How could regular cultivators possibly contend with them?" Zhao Yang murmured.
After killing the Vulture, Zhao Yang looked toward the center of the Haotian Secret Realm and felt a strange sensation, as if something was about to emerge. He sensed that someone was watching him from afar, so he whispered, "Senior Brother, we should go. The entrance to hide the Haotian Pill has likely been discovered."
Song Baliang agreed and followed Zhao Yang toward the center of the Haotian Secret Realm, puzzled by how Zhao Yang seemed to know everything.
In reality, Zhao Yang was only making educated guesses based on his extensive experience and analysis. Many powerful figures entered the Haotian Secret Realm at the ninth level of Foundation Establishment Stage or Great Perfection in search of Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures needed for their Core Formation. They needed to reach the central area of the Haotian Secret Realm as quickly as possible.
He understood that with hundreds of thousands of cultivators entering the Haotian Secret Realm simultaneously, even the strongest beasts would be overwhelmed and killed by sheer numbers. Surely someone would reach the deepest part of the Haotian Secret Realm first; it was a matter of probability rather than strength. No matter how fast he was, he might not be the first one there. Drawing from his past life experiences, he knew that even the smartest student couldn't guarantee they would always come in first on every exam. However, once that top score was announced, they could simply change the name on it to their own because the cultivation world differed from the mundane; here, there were no rules—strength determined everything.
He believed that Overlord Saint Child and others had similar thoughts when they went to break the Earth Spirit Spring's formation; as long as someone found the Haotian Pill, they would surely be notified.
It was clear that many cultivators had already entered Haotian in search of its most precious treasures. Everyone wanted to obtain the Haotian Pill and become a remarkable figure who surpassed all their peers.
