The levels of Dao Fire in the cultivation world are divided into Open Flame, True Fire, Earth Fire, and Heavenly Fire. Each type of Dao Fire has its own subdivisions; for instance, Open Flame is further categorized into Yang Fire, Yin Fire, and Demonic Flame. True Fire is divided into Samadhi True Fire, Sun True Fire, and Dry Blue Ice Flame, among others. The quality of the flames is also classified by color. When one first enters the Foundation Establishment Stage as a Fire Path Disciple during the Open Flame period, the flames are yellow, red, blue, and black respectively. Ordinary cultivators possess yellow flames, while those qualified to become Fire Path Successors must at least have red flames, just like me. Those with blue flame quality are destined to achieve at least the status of a Fire Path Master in the future. As for black flames, they are said to be possessed only by the most talented geniuses of the Fire Path; historically, there has only been one such individual—the revered God of Fire in the cultivation world!
Upon seeing Zhao Yang's potential in the Fire Path, Fire Wuyan was no longer concerned about whether he could successfully manifest a Fire Path seed but instead focused on clarifying the grade of Zhao Yang's Fire Path seed. He was eager to guide Zhao Yang in practicing the Fire Path and becoming a Fire Path Successor.
Zhao Yang understood Fire Wuyan's intentions and immediately replied, "Thank you for your kind offer, Elder, but I have decided to pursue the Body Refinement route. Therefore, my primary cultivation method will still focus on Body Refinement. Even if our Sect lacks Body Refinement techniques, I will find them."
"You..." Fire Wuyan was infuriated. After years of not taking on disciples due to a lack of talented candidates, he finally encountered a genius of the Fire Path only to be rejected when he tried to offer guidance.
"Zhao Yang, do you know what you're saying? You are a genius of the Fire Path with a master teaching you. Your future achievements should at least surpass ours and even our Sect Leader's. How can you choose to abandon your strengths and focus on the already neglected path of Body Refinement? Do you look down on my brother?" Hong Wushou questioned.
Zhao Yang replied, "I would never dare to do that. Elder, you misunderstand me. I am truly honored by your regard for me. However, I must confess that before coming to Myriad Spirit Sect, I had a master who taught me some skills. After he ascended to heaven, I inherited his teachings and aspirations. Every time I think about this, I feel deeply ashamed..." Zhao Yang spoke with feigned humility while emphasizing respect for his teacher as if his master were like a father to him. Although "ascended to heaven" referred to his master actually ascending from this world through cultivation, everyone else interpreted it as having passed away.
"However," Zhao Yang continued after a pause, "if you do not mind, I would be willing to take the Three Elders as my teachers. I can learn the Fire Path, swordsmanship, and the Tao of Talismans!"
Zhao Yang mentioned the paths that the Three Elders specialized in. If anyone else had said such things, they would likely have been met with hostility or told to leave; however, when Zhao Yang said this, it caused the Three Elders to hesitate.
After a moment of contemplation, Hong Wushou said, "Zhao Yang, remember that a cultivator's life is limited. Although you are an Enlightenment genius—your astonishing ability to learn quickly was evident just now—if you try to learn everything at once without mastering any single discipline thoroughly, you may end up being mediocre in all areas without excelling in any one of them. The cultivation world has always revered geniuses with Single Attribute Spiritual Roots not only because they cultivate faster but also because they have the greatest potential to reach the highest realms within their specific attribute."
Zhao Yang grinned mischievously and replied, "The more methods I learn, the better." Though disdain flickered across the faces of the Three Elders at his words, they felt a sense of satisfaction deep down.
At that moment, Scholar Xiu stepped forward from behind and said, "Three Elders, whether it's one disciple or two disciples you take in doesn't matter; why not just accept us all?"
Upon hearing Scholar Xiu's words, all three Elders immediately frowned. They had long heard about Scholar Xiu's antics within the Inner Courtyard—how he incited discord among fellow Senior Brothers while denouncing the brutal rule of higher-ups under some humanitarian guise. In recent months he had often raised his voice on challenge platforms and led crowds in slogans against authority. It was no wonder that the Manager deemed him mentally unstable and relegated him to a disabled area under such pretenses. The cultivation world is traditionally strict about accepting disciples; especially those who intend to pass on their teachings are cautious about risking their reputations by taking on potentially harmful students.
Fire Without Flame and Ji Wuyou both wore hesitant expressions while Hong Wushou remained expressionless in his white robes. Scholar Xiu then stated earnestly: "Although I know my talents are limited, I have dreamed of becoming a sword immortal since childhood and have always aspired to learn swordsmanship—to eradicate evil and uphold justice while soaring through Nine Heavens above and earning admiration from countless people. If Three Elders do not wish to accept me as a disciple then so be it."
"Wait," Hong Wushou said, pulling out a manual from his sleeve and tossing it to Scholar Xiu. "This contains my insights and understanding of swordsmanship. Take it back and practice. Once you've learned the basic sword techniques and mastered them, come find me."
Scholar Xiu's eyes lit up as he caught the manual, quickly bowing in gratitude. "Thank you, Master!"
Hong Wushou nodded, his expression neutral. "Since Zhao Yang is fine now, I'll take my leave. There are still matters to attend to in the Outer Sect." With that, a flash of sword light surged from beneath his feet, and he slowly ascended into the air, swiftly flying off into the distance. He could no longer stay here; many had sought him out to become their master, yet now Zhao Yang was the one who didn't want to be taken on as a disciple.
Seeing Hong Wushou depart, Ji Wuyou hesitated for a moment before calling out to Long Xiao Wu, who stood nearby looking dazed. "Hey, you! Come over and pay your respects!"
"Huh? Me?" Long Xiao Wu turned around, surprised and pointing at himself.
"Who else could it be?" Ji Wuyou replied irritably.
"Oh, but I'm also a Body Refinement practitioner. None of your techniques would suit me," Long Xiao Wu said honestly.
Ji Wuyou's eyebrows twitched; he had never encountered such a forceful attempt to take on disciples before. He pulled out an old and somewhat tattered manual from his sleeve and tossed it into Long Xiao Wu's arms with a huff before walking away without looking back.
Zhao Yang watched this unfold with confusion, thinking to himself, "What does this mean? They won't teach me but are giving away their manuals?"
In reality, neither Hong Wushou nor Ji Wuyou intended to withhold their teachings from Zhao Yang. They would have been willing to pass on their knowledge even if it was just nominally. However, they wanted to leave Zhao Yang for Fire Wuyan. Fire Wuyan stood up without expressing any desire to teach; instead, he tossed a square object to Zhao Yang and said, "Don't forget about tomorrow's challenge," before flying off as well.
Zhao Yang felt perplexed. He had made his intentions clear; logically speaking, given the potential he had shown, even if he didn't recognize them as masters but rather as teachers, they shouldn't have been angry. This wasn't arrogance on his part nor was it disrespect towards them; after all, he was the only true disciple of Sun Wukong. If he lacked even this bit of pride, how could he call himself a disciple of the Great Sage Equaling Heaven?
Zhao Yang sensed that in less than two years, he might leave Myriad Spirit Sect for a broader world since Myriad Spirit Sect was merely a small sect compared to the hundreds of sects in Zhongzhou.
Looking at the square copper plate in his hand with its inscriptions, Zhao Yang couldn't help but feel grateful as he softly murmured towards the distance, "Scripture Repository, that's exactly where I need to go."
On September 1st, the book will be released, with five chapters being published daily for a week starting from that date.
