This is a very old, thread-bound booklet without a title, with only two faint characters visible on the cover—Divine Court. The manual is quite thin, and upon opening it, there are only three pages inside, each containing an ancient technique: Lunar Dragon, Void Blade, and Time Walk.
Zhao Yang felt both surprised and puzzled. He had initially thought this manual contained the secret teachings of the Zhao Family Cultivation Classics, but instead, it only listed three skills. As far as he knew, the Cultivation world categorized Cultivation Methods into mental techniques and skills. Mental techniques are fundamental to Cultivation, serving as the basis for a cultivator's ability to Refine Essence into Qi. Each sect has its unique mental technique, and due to varying talents and Spiritual Roots, the speed of cultivation differs, leading to different meridian pathways. Therefore, there has never been a clear distinction of superiority among mental techniques in the Cultivation world; various sects have always debated their merits. However, skills can indeed be ranked. Skills that lean towards physical refinement are called martial arts, those inclined towards spells are known as incantations, while those based on innate abilities are referred to as Divine Power. Clearly, the first two skills, Lunar Dragon and Void Blade, were incantations. He had already witnessed them through Zhao Tenglong. However, he was somewhat confused about the third skill, Time Walk. Was it the teleportation used by Zhao Tenglong? Yet Elder Dong had said it was merely an illusion technique—a trick akin to that of a magician, just a deceptive appearance. Did that mean Zhao Tenglong hadn’t actually moved at all during his teleportation? But how did he end up behind his opponent?
With these questions in mind, Zhao Yang carefully studied the Cultivation Method for Time Walk, only to discover that it was a form of Divine Power. At that moment, he was unaware of the significance of Divine Power in the Cultivation world. It refers to techniques inherently possessed by cultivators themselves; very few can be learned later in life. Once mastered, a cultivator can execute their Divine Power without any incantations or meridian manipulation at will. Even some renowned Cultivation Sects might not possess a single type of Divine Power. When the ancestors of the Zhao Family and the Dong Family stole this manual from their sects, they had no idea what it was and assumed it was just an ordinary flashy skill. It was easy to learn—almost instinctive—and they thought little of it, casually tossing it into the family’s library. It wasn’t until over a hundred years later that Zhao Tenglong, who was in seclusion there for training, stumbled upon it. He also hadn’t anticipated that these methods could be learned so quickly and appeared quite powerful. This is why he felt unafraid in the Zhao Family Training Ground Arena. However, even then he had no idea that these three methods—especially the last one—would later stir up a storm in the Cultivation world.
With his intelligence, Zhao Yang grasped these three methods effortlessly and quickly became proficient after several trials.
After learning Time Walk, he realized that while Zhao Tenglong had indeed teleported, the reason behind Elder Dong’s claim of it being an illusion technique became clear. When using Time Walk, although his body remained standing before his opponent, he had actually dashed behind them; what remained in place was merely an afterimage. The reason Elder Dong could see through this was that as a Foundation Stage Cultivator, he could extend his Divine Sense to sense where Zhao Tenglong was running.
“Such an idiot,” muttered Zhao Yang, filled with disdain for Zhao Tenglong. “His body simply cannot withstand the impact brought by Time Walk. The speed of teleportation is akin to instantaneous movement; an ordinary person's body—including their internal organs—cannot endure such terrifying velocity. It could even lead to internal organs shifting or skin tearing apart. The term 'instantaneous movement' isn’t used because when employing Time Walk, everything around comes to a momentary halt. Anyone possessing this Divine Power can accomplish anything they wish within that instant as long as their mind keeps up. However, while Zhao Tenglong’s body couldn’t handle such impact, he could slow down the time field of Time Walk immensely so that others' perception remained fixated on his afterimage while he swiftly dashed behind his opponent.
Although temporarily unable to access the time field himself, Zhao Yang’s physical strength could withstand the impact of using Time Walk, allowing him to evade detection from an opponent's Divine Sense. However, using this technique consumed tremendous stamina; if he attempted to teleport continuously seven or eight times, even if he didn’t get torn apart by the void, he would surely exhaust himself.
By the time he mastered these three methods of cultivation, night had fallen. As he walked along a small path toward home and passed through Qinghe Town, he noticed that the local rice shop had long since closed; its windows were broken and covered in cobwebs. Years ago, too many people had been killed by him here; heads hung from eaves had frightened the townsfolk away.
Suddenly feeling it was time to venture into the world of cultivation, he decided that once he returned home and settled matters there, he would leave for farther places.
Upon returning home and seeing that his parents' room still had its light on, he gently knocked on the door and said, “Father, Mother, I’m back. Are you asleep?”
“It’s Zhao Yang!” A voice exclaimed from inside as the door creaked open. He Qing rushed forward with joy and suddenly embraced him tightly, exclaiming, “You’re back! You scared your mother half to death! Where have you been?”
Feeling touched inside, Zhao Yang gently patted her back and replied, “Mother, it’s alright now; see? I’m fine.”
Beside him, Zhao Tianlang said, "Son, where have you been? The Zhao Family was wiped out today, and the news has spread like wildfire. Although we were driven out by the Zhao Family, we are still part of it. To cut the grass is to remove the roots; I fear..."
"Father, don't worry. Our family will be fine. The destruction of the Zhao Family was caused by Elder Dong; he won't harm us."
Zhao Tianlang looked surprised. "Elder Dong? But why would he destroy the Zhao Family? Although the Zhao Family has been unkind and unjust to us, we are still members of the Zhao Family. Besides, how could Elder Dong possibly defeat the Zhao Family? They have so many skilled fighters!"
Zhao Yang knew that explaining things to his father, who held strong values of loyalty and filial piety, would be difficult. He spoke up, "I don't know all the details either, but if I'm correct, Elder Dong will come to our house in a few days. We can ask him then."
"But how do you know so much?" He Qing asked, looking worried as she checked Zhao Yang for any injuries. When Zhao Yang arrived, he had already changed into clean clothes. He reassured her, "Mother, I heard it from others in the county. It seems that the attack on the Zhao Family also involved the Zhou and Wang families from Dongling County; otherwise, how could Elder Dong alone defeat so many skilled fighters? Mother, let's not talk about this anymore. I'm hungry; could you please cook me a bowl of noodles?"
"Alright then! I knew you must have been out playing all day without eating. I've prepared the noodles; they just need to go in the pot. I've been waiting for you to come home. I'll get started on that right away!" With that, He Qing tied on her apron and happily headed toward the kitchen.
