In the realm of Yin Mountain, high above the clouds, I, Guo Daozhen, and Zhou Manman gazed down at the dense mass of snakes that filled the area beneath Yin Mountain. Guo Daozhen frowned and said, "There is the aura of the Snake Goddess here. Could it be her?"
I replied, "During our last battle at Qingliang Mountain, the Old Scholar was gravely injured. The dead snakes here have already begun to rot, so it seems that after returning to Yin Mountain, he was soon targeted by the Snake Goddess."
Qiongqi roared as it descended, causing the snakes to scatter in fear from its beastly aura. Zhou Manman helped me down, and Guo Daozhen jumped down as well, looking at the Yang Family Imperial Hall that had been overtaken by giant serpents.
Guo Daozhen remarked, "Among all the sects, the Yang Family has the greatest ambition. The palace they built rivals that of an imperial palace, but unfortunately, it has ultimately become a ruin."
As Guo Daozhen spoke, a gust of wind seemed to rise from nowhere as he unleashed a powerful strike towards the Yang Family Imperial Hall. The clouds churned and thunder roared; in an instant, the grand palace of the Yang Family was reduced to rubble.
I pulled a beast from my pocket and said, "Bubble, drive these snakes away."
The beast nodded and flew into the sky. It chirped loudly several times, like a shrew scolding in the streets. The snakes fled in panic as if they had seen a ghost, trampling countless others in their escape.
We endured the stench of decay and blood as we walked toward the ruins of the Imperial Hall. There used to be the Longevity Pool of the Yang Family there, filled with spiritual liquid that only talented disciples and elders were allowed to soak in. Now it was covered in fallen leaves, with some dead snakes floating grotesquely on the surface.
Not far from the Longevity Pool stood a massive white stone door. The door was ajar and smeared with blood; everywhere we looked were snake corpses. The deeper we went inside, we encountered White Serpents covered in white fur that were even larger than those we had seen at Futu Ridge.
"This should be where the Old Scholar closed himself off in the Underground Palace," Guo Daozhen said. "The Snake Goddess has been waiting for an opportunity to take revenge on him; I wonder if she has succeeded."
Following the scent of blood, I made my way into the Underground Palace. Before long, I heard faint groans coming from below.
In a chamber that had already been opened, I found the Old Scholar lying on a tree stump in a state of madness. His breath was weak and his limbs trembled. Surrounding him were tendrils of Blood Tree emitting a strong stench; these tendrils resembled both wood and flesh, each swollen with grotesque blood blisters.
However, the groans did not come from the Old Scholar but rather from a girl outside the chamber.
The girl's hair was snow white, and her eyebrows matched. At that moment, she was covered in blood, her breath faint. A massive wound gaped in her chest, with several tendrils of the Blood Tree piercing through her body, pinning her to the wall.
In her hand, she clutched half of the Great Zhou Compass.
We instinctively took a step back. Guo Daozhen looked at her with suspicion and asked, "Are you the Snake Goddess?"
The girl replied, "That's right, Daozhen. Your enemy is right before you, gravely injured. You can kill him now and take your revenge!"
Guo Daozhen clenched his fists, his eyes red as he stared at the Old Scholar lying on the stump of the Blood Tree. The Old Scholar grunted and said, "You can kill me if you want, but do you think you'll survive? Transforming into a serpent is against the way. If you extract his inner dan, perhaps it could save Yang Hao's life and heal the Injury of the Dao!"
The Snake Goddess said, "Don't listen to his nonsense. The demon dan is different from Taoist Inner Alchemy; taking it recklessly will only lead to death. Moreover, the demon dan only enhances power and cannot heal the Injury of the Dao. If you can refine his Dao Body and repair the Great Zhou Compass, healing the Injury of the Dao may not be impossible."
I frowned and said, "The Injury of the Dao can only be healed through tribulation. Rest assured, I don't want the demon dan, the Dao Body, or the Great Zhou Compass. I'm just here to ask how to deal with Song Qianqiu. Whoever tells me will be spared."
"Is that true?" the Old Scholar asked.
Guo Daozhen snorted disdainfully at the Old Scholar's cowardice.
I said, "I, Yang Hao, keep my word and will not go back on it."
The Old Scholar replied, "Over a month ago at the Taishan Battle, you killed Nangong for the Sun Refining Cauldron with Yu Xuanliang's help. Later, Song Qianqiu tried to ambush you but couldn't touch you. Only you can deal with Song Qianqiu now. The Great Zhou Compass is damaged; even if repaired, without me, you won't be able to use it."
I said, "That's not my concern; it's that once Song Qianqiu is killed, time will reset immediately and flow back three years."
"What?" The Old Scholar's eyes widened in disbelief.
Even the Snake Goddess couldn't believe it. She said, "Throughout history, the reason why the Time Technique is considered the number one forbidden art, punishable by death, is because people fear that someone might cultivate it to perfection. Traveling through time and altering history could lead to chaos in the timeline and potentially cause the destruction of the world. However, this is merely speculation. Even if Song Qianqiu could reset time after death, how would you know?"
I replied, "I am the one who killed Song Qianqiu. I don't know if it's because of that reason that I remember the events of time flowing backward."
"No wonder the Great Zhou Compass trembled twice before," the Old Scholar remarked.
"The Great Zhou Compass can sense time reversal?" I asked.
"Of course," the Old Scholar said. "The Great Zhou Compass is the Daoist Sect's foremost Sacred Artifact, capable of perceiving past and future events. It records what has happened. As for the realm of time, the inscriptions on the Zhou Compass are obscure and difficult to understand; I haven't delved into them much. However, there were two instances when the Great Zhou Compass exhibited unusual activity, causing disruptions in its runes. That's why I didn't kill that White Snake."
"I killed Song Qianqiu twice. A few seconds after his death, a black object would float out from within him—either an inner dan or a Dao Fruit. I tried to destroy that black object with an Evil Weapon but couldn't harm it at all. Now that I think about it, it's a good thing I didn't destroy it; otherwise, if it had been destroyed, who knows if time would reset again? My friends might not be able to return."
The Old Scholar squinted and said, "It seems this is the legendary Immortal Dao Fruit. During the era when the Daoist Sect was founded, everyone could possess a Dao Fruit. Countless members of the Daoist Sect eventually gave birth to an immortal Dao Sovereign; his Dao Fruit was the Immortal Dao Fruit. This person was both righteous and wicked; he was besieged by masters multiple times but remained Immortal. As long as a drop of his blood existed in this world, he could be reborn. The Immortal Dao Fruit cannot be destroyed even by Sacred Artifacts or divine weapons."
"Then how did he die later?" I asked.
"Naturally, he died of old age," the Old Scholar replied. "All talents cannot withstand the ravages of time. Time will turn the Immortal Dao Fruit to ashes; aside from that, there seems to be no other way."
The Snake Goddess scoffed and said, "Just a frog at the bottom of a well; it's surprising you use the name Old Scholar."
"Do you have a way to destroy the Immortal Dao Fruit?" I asked.
"I don't have it, but I know someone who does."
"Who?"
"The Master of the Eastern Wilderness Pavilion, Dugu Yu."
The Old Scholar snorted and said, "You can't be talking about a fictional character. Dugu Yu is a name from the Dark Turmoil Period, from the same era as the Sword Saint!"
"That's right. He is indeed the Master of the Eastern Wilderness Pavilion. Years ago, when I escaped from Futu Ridge, I headed towards the Eastern Wilderness Sea. His skills are unfathomable, and I hold him in great fear. While I was hunting fish and sea beasts along the coast of the Eastern Wasteland, he saw that I meant no harm. After warning me, he left. Later, when my soul transformed into human form to investigate, I learned of his existence. It is said that he knows everything, especially regarding the whereabouts of the first divine artifact, the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow. The Sun-Shooting Divine Bow can pierce anything; whether it's the Nine Kunpeng or the Great Sun Golden Crow, one shot would surely mean death."
"Even if Dugu Yu knows where the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow is, why would he help a stranger? For the common people? That's ridiculous! Besides, the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow weighs a hundred thousand tons; no human could possibly draw it. Even if ten Supremes gathered all their power, they wouldn't be able to budge it. There's also a rumor that when Hou Yi shot down the suns, he did so because each shot cost him a soul or a spirit. He only kept his main soul alive and eventually died from illness. Such is life; everything has its price," the Old Scholar said coldly.
"Then what good method do you have?" Guo Daozhen asked.
"If you want to deal with someone who possesses the Time Forbidden Technique, you must also have the Time Forbidden Technique. The latter half of the Yang Family's book is the Book of Time."
