Inside the Gorge, behind the vine walls, hundreds of villagers had turned with red eyes, revealing murderous intent towards Yang Sanqian and Jiyao before them.
The vine wall shattered, and the Yin Soldiers surged forward, while the villagers within rushed towards Yang Sanqian and Jiyao.
With a loud bang, a powerful wave swept through the area, scattering everyone. Yang Sanqian waved his hand downwards, pushing the crowd away.
Jiyao cast Renewal of Withered Trees to quickly heal her injuries. Then, throughout the vast Gorge, the ground trembled as countless thorns sprouted from the earth in an instant, breaking through the soil and growing wildly.
In just a moment, the thorns pierced through the Yin Soldiers and the villagers whose consciousness had been controlled, impaling everyone and hanging them in mid-air.
The Yin Soldiers, though pierced by such injuries, did not die; they struggled above the thorny forest, howling in agony.
On a cliff above the Gorge, Song Qianqiu watched coldly, clapping his hands and saying, “What a spectacular display from this couple.”
Yang Sanqian and Jiyao turned to Song Qianqiu. Yang Sanqian said, “You dare to show yourself? I thought you would hide in the shadows forever.”
Song Qianqiu replied, “Ten years of fortune turns like a wheel; I have always believed in this principle. I once looked up to your heroic might, but I never expected our meeting would come to this.”
Yang Sanqian asked, “What do you want?”
Song Qianqiu answered, “It’s simple. I want you two to become my subordinates.”
“You must be dreaming!”
Jiyao retorted as two vines shot up from beneath her feet towards the sky. The two of them rode the vines straight towards Song Qianqiu. He stood with his hands behind his back, watching the approaching Divine Hero Couple without flinching.
Suddenly, Miao Guanyin appeared, her white hair like snow. Expressionless, she stood before Song Qianqiu, her palms radiating mysterious energy as she faced off against Yang Sanqian and Jiyao.
Yang Sanqian and Jiyao staggered back, staring in shock at Miao Guanyin. Jiyao shouted, “Senior, can you hear us?”
Yang Sanqian exclaimed, “Song Qianqiu, using the dead against us is utterly insane!”
Song Qianqiu smiled and said, "It's just a matter of utilizing waste; it doesn't mean I'm insane."
As he spoke, he shook the Ghost Seal in his hand. The Yin Soldiers struggling in the Gorge threw their spears at the two. Yang Sanqian and Jiyao raised their Dao Qi defenses to block the incoming spears. In an instant, the spears flew through the air, all of them successfully intercepted.
Miao Guanyin turned to look at them, her sleeves fluttering as the entire area suddenly fell silent. Then, countless spears danced through the air, piercing through the Dao Qi defenses, with fine dust swirling around. Under the glow of the Bright Moon, the spears whirled chaotically, and several pierced Yang Sanqian's body. Seeing one spear aimed at Jiyao's Heart, he reached out abruptly. The spear that was several feet away suddenly shattered into powder.
"That's Mount Meru Divine Art!" Yang Sanqian spat blood as a spear pierced his chest, causing him to plummet from the sky.
"Yang Sanqian!" Jiyao exclaimed in shock and quickly flew over to catch him. She took out the Water Moon Mirror from her bosom, and the power of Mount Meru Divine Art immediately dissipated.
The Water Moon Mirror shone towards the void, causing it to tremble and crack. Song Qianqiu shouted, "Seal off the void! Don't let them escape!"
Upon hearing this, Miao Guanyin clapped her palms towards the void, attempting to mend the cracks created by the Water Moon Mirror. However, Yang Sanqian and Jiyao still slipped inside and vanished in an instant.
"You useless fool!" Song Qianqiu roared angrily, pointing at Miao Guanyin.
Miao Guanyin stood expressionless before him as he snorted. "Meng Xuanjian, bring them down!"
Meng Xuanjian flew out from the shadows, rubbing his hands together as blades of void energy shot out in all directions. They immediately severed thousands of thorns within the Gorge, releasing a large number of Yin Soldiers. The villagers who had already died quickly rose again, transformed into Corpse Demons under the influence of the Demon King's Scripture.
Dozens of miles away, Yang Sanqian and Jiyao fell from the void beside a pond. Jiyao looked at Yang Sanqian's horrifying chest wound and quickly used Renewal of Withered Trees to heal his injuries. She never expected that an unknown young disciple would grow to such an extent that he could almost eliminate them effortlessly.
Two days later, above Jiangnan Ruins, I rode with Yunxi and Douding on Qiongqi. Ever since Douding's Zen Bodhisattva awakened, Qiongqi's flesh wings had become even more robust, allowing it to soar above nine skies with significantly increased speed. Additionally, Qiongqi's demonic power had been stimulated to a certain extent and was growing rapidly.
At the ruins, Long Cang, the leader of the dragon clan, was waiting with his kin.
A few days ago, we had agreed to meet here. Huzi went to the imperial capital to find Yu Xuanliang and Li Fugui. After I returned from Dunhuang to Jiangnan, Long Cang would be waiting here to report on any information gathered.
After some pleasantries, Long Cang said, "According to what our clan members have discovered, there are now large numbers of Yin Soldiers hidden in many mountains. These Yin Soldiers cross over in droves at night and hide deep in the mountains during the day. The villages at the foot of these mountains have been destroyed completely; there are no survivors in sight. I also found traces of Corpse Demons not far from here at Qixia Mountain. When I engaged them, I discovered that some Corpse Demons possess extremely high cultivation levels; it seems they also have ways to enhance their strength."
I nodded and said, "Along the way, we have seen signs of the activities of the Yin Soldier Corpse Ghosts in some mountains. There are too many to clear them all. The journey from Qilian Mountain to here spans a thousand miles, and it’s impossible that there hasn’t been any movement. I don’t understand why the military hasn’t shown any signs of action; they should have already gone to Qilian Mountain to investigate the situation in the Underworld, and results should come soon."
Long Cang said, "In that case, is there anything more we of the Dragon Clan can do to assist?"
I replied, "The Dragon God does not wish for you to participate in this calamity. Furthermore, facing the Yin Soldiers and Corpse Demons has far exceeded what any single clan can bear. Even if you stay, you won’t be able to help much. It would be better for you to return to the Azure Mountain Dragon Clan and prepare for defense. If we truly need assistance, we will naturally seek you out."
Long Cang hesitated for a moment and said, "Very well. You are all distinguished members of the Daoist Sect, and indeed my kin cannot offer much help; instead, we might cause trouble. However, if needed, the Dragon Clan will be ready to shed blood at any moment. It’s just that our Dragon God has yet to grow strong enough. Young Hero Yang Hao wields an Evil Weapon with unfathomable power; if possible, please protect the Dragon God and ensure he does not meet an untimely end!"
I said, "Uncle Long Cang, you think too highly of the Dragon God. He is like a brother to me, and his vitality surpasses all of ours. You can rest assured."
"Then we shall take our leave. Take care, everyone!" Long Cang said as he led his kin away from the Sword Sect Ruins.
Yunxi asked, "What should we do next?"
I replied, "The Daoist Sect is like a scattered sand pile and cannot form an alliance. So far, there has been no movement from the military either. Yu Xuanliang and Li Fugui must have been observing quietly; they are intent on destroying the Daoist Sect while taking advantage of its chaos. However, people from the secular world will also get involved now. Song Qianqiu is not one to show mercy; he would love nothing more than for the world to be destroyed and corpses to litter the land. At that point, no one would dare oppose him. Huzi should have arrived in the capital by now; we should go meet him."
Yunxi nodded and jumped onto Qiongqi's back. She looked back at Douding and called out, "Douding, come up! We’re leaving."
Douding seemed not to hear her and stared into the void. I asked, "Douding, what are you looking at?"
Douding snapped back to reality and glanced at me before shaking his head and saying, "Nothing."
I picked up Douding and flew onto Qiongqi's back as it spread its wings and soared high into the sky. Douding turned back to look down below as if watching someone.
"Sister Yunxi, do you believe there is another version of yourself in this world?" Douding suddenly asked.
Yunxi stroked Douding's bald head and replied, "Are you trying to write poetry or did you just see another version of yourself?"
Douding said, "No, I saw Brother Yang Hao; he’s gone."
Throughout history, there have been countless powerful sects, but as time has passed, new sects have replaced the old ones. Each generation has its own talents, often referred to as the greatest of all time.
However, time has proven one thing: nothing can escape the erasure of time.
In the Dark Turmoil, numerous extraordinary masters emerged, including the touching Master Xu Yun of Zen Buddhism, Daoist Master Wang Yang, Sword Saint Kiko, and later Sword Saints like Wudang Genius Zhang Zong. Yet eventually, dust returns to dust; some are remembered while others are forgotten.
Now, in the Daoist Catastrophe, within just two years, renowned sects such as the Serpent Cult, Yaochi, Emei, Wudang, Sword Pavilion, Kongtong, Longhu Mountain, and Azure Cloud Mountain have all been destroyed. Countless Daoist Disciples have been hunted down, and both new and old masters struggle to survive in a precarious environment. Some have even begun to hide among ordinary people, too afraid to reveal themselves.
The only remaining sect with any strength is the last Buddhist Sect—Leiyin Temple.
Unbeknownst to anyone, the Ghost King and the White-Robed Old Scholar stand at a distance on a dune, gazing at the tranquility of the monks within Leiyin Temple.
Surrounding Leiyin Temple on all sides are countless Yin Soldiers—hundreds of thousands, even more—so many that they stretch beyond sight.
The Ghost King remarked, "Even if a great celestial descended from the heavens, it would be unable to prevent the annihilation of the Buddhist Sect."
