Yang Kaishan, known as the Old Scholar, was the most learned and talented figure in the history of the Yang Family. He could discern the balance of life and death, knowing both the past and the future. His knowledge was vast and eclectic, making him well-versed in many subjects. In his youth, he was humble and courteous, displaying great wisdom during several upheavals within the Daoist Sect, where he played a pivotal role in restoring order.
At seventy years old, the Old Scholar began to travel, and his miraculous deeds were celebrated by people everywhere. Many places honored him with statues, as he was renowned throughout the Daoist Sect. Even the Southern Sea Lineage, dedicated to exorcising demons and safeguarding the path, could not match the fame of the Old Scholar.
The Yang Family rose to prominence over a thousand years ago through a book that was said to contain the pinnacle of Daoist Arts—secret techniques of the Daoist Sect. Mastering just one of these techniques would secure a place within the sect.
Whether it was the Old Scholar's Mind Attack, Yang Xuanzong's Void Technique, Li Chang'an's Transcendent Hand, or Yang Sanqian's Blowing Immortal Technique, all were learned from the Yang Family Book.
This book had always belonged to the Old Scholar. For many years, he had devoted himself to studying it and researching the Ghost Gate Secret Technique. Now, in his battle against Miao Guanyin, he unleashed a terrifying Daoist Art that not only shattered the Southern Sea's foremost divine technique, Fury Realm, but also severely injured the illustrious Miao Guanyin.
Upon closer analysis, it became evident that South Sea Wonderful Guanyin might possess even greater combat strength. Although she was a woman, her Daoist Arts and Cultivation Methods were bold and decisive. The Southern Sea Lineage's Mount Meru Divine Art was a fundamental Cultivation Method that every generation had to learn, while Great Yan Zhou Jing was an advanced Ultimate Technique that included Fury Realm—a technique capable of trapping an enemy in a deadly realm, gathering all one's strength to compress air and strangle them.
Throughout history, many brilliant talents had perished under this technique from the Southern Sea Lineage. Even masters from the Mahayana Realm and Supreme beings from the Tribulation Realm had fallen victim to it.
Yet Miao Guanyin failed when she attempted this technique against the Old Scholar.
Within the formation barrier, the Old Scholar executed an unknown Daoist Art. His figure split into three. Miao Guanyin initially thought that the black-robed figure and the White Robed Man were merely clones. In her determination to kill the Old Scholar, she ignored their attacks and was grievously injured instead. Confused, she looked at both figures—unless they were not clones at all.
"Who are you two?" Miao Guanyin asked.
The black-robed man chuckled darkly. "You don't need to know who we are; you're about to die anyway. The rumors about the Southern Sea Lineage inheriting the Ascension Elixir have piqued my curiosity. If you can hand over the Ascension Elixir to me, I might consider letting you die more gracefully."
At this moment, those outside the formation barrier began to understand what was happening. Yang Sanqian remarked, "It seems they used Void Technique to summon these individuals. However, their power is exceptionally high; they are clearly Supremes from the Tribulation Realm. When did such figures appear within our Daoist Sect?"
I replied, "The Ghost Elder mentioned before his death that he saw two Masked Men beside the Old Scholar; they must be individuals cultivated by the Yang Family or old acquaintances of his."
Guo Daozhen murmured thoughtfully, "I was puzzled by how their clones appeared different; although they share similar physiques, they wear different clothing and possess their own consciousness and speech. They shouldn't be mere clones. Strangely enough, there was no fluctuation in the barrier when they were transported here; it's quite odd. Just now, all three simultaneously used Mind Attack to break through Miao Guanyin's Daoist Arts; it seems they have a close relationship with the Old Scholar."
At that moment, Miao Shengnan arrived with her Emei disciples from afar. They had come to investigate after witnessing ominous clouds gathering over a towering mountain while temporarily seeking refuge in a nearby village. Accompanying them were Bai Xiaoxiang and Wu and Rou'er.
"Haozi, Brother Yang, are you all here?" Five looked at us in surprise.
Miao Shengnan felt a bit awkward upon seeing everyone. After all, she had some unresolved issues with us. If it weren't for Rain Master Luo and Rouer, we definitely wouldn't have reconciled upon meeting her.
"So you all are here. What happened?" Miao Shengnan asked.
"You can see for yourself," Guo Huaiyi replied, clearly indicating that Miao Shengnan was not particularly welcome.
Guo Daozhen said, "This is bad. Senior Miao Guanyin is outnumbered three to one; Yi'er, send me in."
Guo Huaiyi responded, "Sending you in would be suicide; they have three Supremes."
"I've reached Supreme level with my Dao Body; I won't be in danger," Guo Daozhen insisted.
"Old Guo, I'm going in with you," I said.
Wudao chimed in, "Those inside are from the Yang Family. With so many of us together, we can just take them down!"
Yang Sanqian cautioned, "Engaging with three Supremes is not the same as dealing with ordinary opponents. Senior Miao Guanyin is already severely injured; even if we go together, we might not be able to win. Moreover, this Great Void Technique and Ghost Gate Secret Technique barrier can only be breached by Hao and Guo Huaiyi."
I declared, "Senior Miao Guanyin is about to give in; I’ll go in first."
"Hao," Jiyao grabbed my arm. "You’re injured and only at Dao Fruit Realm. Let Pao Pao take me in instead."
"Mom, I'm fine. Don't worry; I have the Evil Weapon with me," I reassured her.
"Then take the Water Moon Mirror with you." Jiyao took out a copper mirror from her bosom and handed it to me.
I took the Water Moon Mirror and placed it over my heart. The Water Moon Mirror is one of the Eight Sacred Artifacts of the Taoist Sect, capable of reflecting all Daoist Arts. At critical moments, it can block fatal attacks, serving as a protective item for generations of the Yaochi Saintess.
Yunxi also said, "Be careful."
I nodded and activated the Boundary Breaking Technique. Dao patterns emerged, and a layer of colorful bubbles formed around my body. The Void Barrier rippled as I stepped into the barrier.
Guo Huaiyi also performed the Ghost Gate Secret Technique. Black Script gathered on his palm as he slowly pressed against the surface of the barrier. The powerful backlash from the barrier sent Guo Huaiyi flying back, causing him to spit out blood. At that moment, a gap in the barrier flashed by, and before anyone could react, it was quickly filled, but Guo Daozhen had already stepped inside.
"Is this barrier really that powerful?" Wudao stepped forward to use the Yin-Yang Escape Technique. His figure wavered, and he felt dizzy but remained in place. "The Yin-Yang Escape Technique can't get through!"
Wudao was skeptical and summoned the Linglong Pagoda. With jade light protecting him, he crashed into the Void Barrier. The barrier shook violently as chaotic currents generated by the pressure within the formation surged wildly. Guo Daozhen and I dodged to avoid them, while everyone else crouched down to evade this unexpected disaster.
"You fatso, stop causing trouble," Guo Huaiyi said.
Wudao awkwardly smiled and retreated back among the group.
Miao Shengnan said, "I just reached perfection in the Mahayana Realm; I'm only a step away from the Tribulation Realm. Perhaps I can be of some help."
"You?" Guo Huaiyi still doubted Miao Shengnan. Back then, she had been in cahoots with several other sect leaders, and now that Emei had been destroyed, she had nowhere to go. Although no one bothered her out of respect for Rain Master Luo, it didn't mean everyone would accept her.
Not only did Guo Huaiyi show disdain, but others also remained silent, their expressions unwelcoming. Bai Xiaoxiang noticed her master's lack of support and said, "Master, since we Emei are so unwelcome, I think we should just go back. There's no need to rush in and die; who can withstand three Supremes?"
Miao Shengnan glanced at Bai Xiaoxiang and sternly ordered, "Take your junior sisters back."
Guo Huaiyi snorted, "You don't even know if you can get in; you're acting like it's real."
Ignoring him, Miao Shengnan approached the front of the barrier, holding the Washing Flower Sword—the legacy token of the Emei Sect Leader—with its tip pressed against a wound in the barrier. She chanted an incantation as a doppelgänger suddenly appeared before her, standing within the barrier!
“Phantom Layers can be used like this?” The crowd looked on in astonishment.
Phantom Layers is one of the secret techniques of Arched Eyebrows, and it is the most renowned Shadow Clone Technique within the Daoist Sect. It is the only Daoist Sect secret art without limits, as the number of clones increases infinitely with the practitioner's skill level.
Suddenly, two Dao Bodies flickered, and the clone inside the barrier switched places with Miao Shengnan outside. This was merely a trick of the Phantom Layers technique, and no one expected it to be useful at that moment.
In the arena, Miao Guanyin was fighting three opponents alone, being forced to retreat repeatedly. She could only use the protective technique from Mount Meru Divine Art, the Summit Divine Light Technique. However, her divine light was waning, on the verge of dissipating. Miao Guanyin was struck back hundreds of feet, dark energy swirling around her as she coughed up blood.
“Senior, are you alright?” I asked, using Dao Qi to ease Miao Guanyin's retreat.
Turning back to see me and Guo Daozhen, along with the approaching Miao Shengnan, Miao Guanyin frowned and said, “How did you all get in here?”
Guo Daozhen replied, “Senior is from Nanhai Guanyin Monastery Supreme, guarding the justice of the Daoist Sect. How could we stand by and do nothing?”
“You’re courting death,” Miao Guanyin said.
The Old Scholar laughed heartily as he and the other two flew in from a distance. He remarked, “At least as a Supreme, you understand reason. These fools don’t know their own limits and recklessly barged in to help; they are truly frogs at the bottom of a well.”
The figure in black said, “There’s no need to waste words on these ignorant fools; just kill them.”
I responded, “Senior, as a Supreme, even if you look down upon mortals, do you not possess even a basic sense of compassion? With so many people here, can you really kill them all?”
A chilling aura emanated from beneath the mask of the figure in black, sending shivers down one’s spine. He was starkly different from the nearby White Robed Man and Old Scholar, exuding a heavy killing intent. He laughed heartily and said, “Only weaklings like you would seek mercy from others!”
The figure in black charged first. He soared into the air, his Daoist Robe billowing fiercely as he struck out towards me with a palm. I countered with a punch that shattered the void, forcing him back. He looked puzzled and asked, “How does someone at the mere Dao Fruit Realm possess such power?”
The Old Scholar explained, “This person is a descendant of my Yang Family, possessing the Martial Dao Classic. Having mastered various sect techniques, what he just used was the Rift Path from Longhu Mountain, which can amplify his power a hundredfold, allowing him to contend with a Supreme.”
"Indeed." The man in the black robe replied. "But it seems he has suffered an Injury of the Dao, Yang Kaishan. Our Yang Family descendants are becoming more and more outrageous."
The man in black turned to the White Robed Man and said, "Leave this useless Yang Family member to you. The rest, I'll handle. Yang Kaishan, you should deal with Miao Guanyin."
The battle was about to erupt. Miao Guanyin faced the Old Scholar, while I confronted the White Robed Man, and the man in black took on both Guo Daozhen and Miao Shengnan.
Miao Guanyin had previously fought against three Supremes and was severely injured; currently, she was no match for the Old Scholar. As Supremes, their attacks caused the ground to shake and the air to crackle with Dao Qi, sending rocks flying.
Facing the White Robed Man was even more challenging. Throughout history, no one had ever been able to fight a Supreme at a higher level. Even a sect leader from the Mahayana Realm could not do so. Supremes had an understanding of Daoist Arts and nature that surpassed mortals, reaching a near-immortal state. In less than a hundred exchanges, they could easily kill any sect leader from the Mahayana Realm.
I was merely at the Dao Fruit Realm; without the Rift Path, I would likely not last three exchanges.
The Rift Path was a forbidden technique created by Longhu Mountain. Thousands of years ago, Zhang Daoling, the founder of Orthodox Daoism, gained great fame and became a Dao Sovereign while still in the Mahayana Realm, slaughtering Supremes as if they were mere dogs. Everyone revered Zhang Daoling, but after his death, various sects began opposing Longhu Mountain, demanding that this forbidden technique be destroyed.
Zhang Daoling was revered as a deity by common folk and was believed to have ascended to the realm of Dao Ancestors. However, his descendants became increasingly weaker over generations and ultimately had to comply with the demands of other sects by publicly destroying the Rift Path. In reality, they hid copies of the Rift Path in a forbidden area. For hundreds of years, successive leaders practiced it in secret, but strangely enough, no one could master it anymore. Coupled with a rebellion from outside disciples of Longhu Mountain, few knew about the hidden secrets of the Rift Path; everyone thought it had been destroyed until I cultivated the Martial Dao Classic and infiltrated Longhu Mountain's forbidden area, discovering its existence once again.
Though powerful, the Rift Path was not omnipotent. It could temporarily enhance my Daoist Arts' power a hundredfold. If I couldn't resolve my issues with the man in black within a few exchanges, I would be left vulnerable; there was a vast difference between the Dao Fruit Realm and the Tribulation Realm—comparable to an infant versus an adult male—there was simply no contest.
