At the peak of Azure Mountain, the Ghost Elder, whose body was occupied by the Old Scholar's avatar, erupted in fury, leaping out from the shattered rocks, his form battered and torn.
"Run!" Wu shouted as he leaped down the mountain with Huzi in tow.
"Want to escape? Leave your life behind!" the Ghost Elder roared, his massive hand reaching for Wu and Huzi.
In mid-air, Wu turned back and threw a punch. The hand trembled but did not dissipate, continuing its downward pressure.
Wu was now a master of the Dao Fruit Realm, yet facing the Old Scholar's avatar was still somewhat taxing. Moreover, the enemy had now fully taken over the Ghost Elder's body, allowing him to freely utilize incantations that were previously unavailable.
"Yin Yang Wuji, Borrowing the Universe Technique, evade!" Wu chanted the incantation, pulling Huzi as they suddenly vanished from mid-air. The next moment, they appeared on the ground, crashing down unexpectedly.
The Ghost Elder snorted as he descended from the summit of Azure Mountain. He had inherited many Daoist Arts from the Old Scholar, and the Yang Family was particularly adept at Void Techniques. There was no way Wu and Huzi could match the speed of the Old Scholar.
"Wudao: Keep running along this path; there's an ancient village ahead where we can regroup!"
Huzi nodded, aware of his limited strength; staying behind would only hinder them. He turned and sprinted towards the direction Wu indicated, which led straight to Cangshan Blood River.
"My dear disciple, I will decide who goes first; I will kill whoever I want!" the Ghost Elder landed on the ground with a sinister chuckle.
A tremendous force pulled Huzi back as he tried to flee. Wu stepped in front of Huzi and punched toward the Ghost Elder. The Ghost Elder retaliated with a punch of his own; their strikes collided with a resounding impact that sent Wu flying backward. Huzi fell to the ground alongside him.
"Die!" roared the Ghost Elder as he clapped his hands together, two massive boulders crashing down to pin Huzi in between.
Blood splattered everywhere; Wu's eyes widened in horror. But in the next moment, a surge of black energy emanated from the rocks as they shattered, revealing Huzi's form. He was covered in blood but wrapped in a Black Secret Script that rapidly healed his wounds.
The Ghost Elder exclaimed in surprise, "Old Man seems to smell the Book of Life and Death's essence. But how could it possess such formidable healing abilities? You are quite peculiar!"
Ghost Elder suddenly appeared beside Huzi. With a roar, Huzi swung a fist at Ghost Elder, who caught Huzi's punch and snapped it with a swift motion. Then, with a flick of his finger, he sent Huzi flying backward. Huzi crashed to the ground, while Ghost Elder chuckled to himself. A massive black hand reached out from afar, gripping Huzi tightly. With a sudden squeeze, blood mist erupted from Huzi's body.
At that moment, Ghost Elder felt a jolt in his heart. A strange sound echoed through the air as a gigantic sword of black and white descended, slicing off Ghost Elder's arm.
With a scream, Ghost Elder's eyes turned blood-red, and an overwhelming aura of killing intent surged from him. He punched forward, sending Wu flying; Wu spat blood and rolled on the ground for several circles before finally coming to a stop.
“Yin-Yang Sword, my hand!” Ghost Elder thought about reattaching his severed arm. At his level of cultivation, as long as his head wasn't severed, regrowing limbs shouldn't be difficult. However, he found that his Dao Qi was suppressed, preventing his body from reconnecting!
Furious, Ghost Elder recalled that he was a clone created by Old Scholar based on the records in the Yang Family Book. Over the years, his power had been waning. He had worked hard for Old Scholar, earning the secret technique that allowed him to create a physical body. Now that body was not even fully integrated before being destroyed—how could he not be enraged?
“Old Man was sent to capture you alive, but it seems that's no longer necessary!” The fabric of Ghost Elder's Daoist Robe billowed as a powerful wave of Dao Qi radiated from him, enveloping the entire Azure Mountain in an aura of slaughter.
Wu felt a chill run down his spine. Although he had entered the Dao Fruit Realm, he was no match for the clone of Old Scholar. While not at the level of Supreme Level, he was at least in the Mahayana Realm. As he retreated further back, he felt an increasing pressure bearing down on him, extinguishing any fighting spirit he had.
Chanting incantations under his breath, Ghost Elder summoned tendrils of black Ghostly Energy that sprouted from beneath Wu, wrapping around him like twisted vines. No matter how much he struggled, it was futile.
With his right hand infused with Yang Qi, Ghost Elder brought his index and middle fingers together and suddenly slashed toward Wu. A blade of energy pierced through Wu's chest, pinning him to the ground as blood gushed forth and he let out a cry of agony.
“You old thing who’s neither human nor ghost, die!” came a loud shout from behind— it was Huzi.
A sharp dagger plunged into Ghost Elder's skull, but it broke off after penetrating only slightly. Turning around, Ghost Elder thrust two fingers into Huzi's abdomen and then kicked him into the depths of the Blood River. Above the river shrouded in red mist, Huzi quickly sank to the bottom and disappeared from sight.
The Cangshan Blood River had long been regarded as an ominous river. Many villages once existed here where boys and girls were sent annually to offer sacrifices to the river god; otherwise, if angered, the river would swell and drown countless farmlands.
Watching as Huzi fell into the depths of the river, Wu roared in defiance while struggling against the bindings of Ghost Elder's Ghost Gate. He chanted: “Yin Yang Wuji. Borrowing the Universe Technique, break!”
A surge of golden light erupted, attempting to break through the black Ghostly Energy. The Ghost Elder struck again with a pointed finger, and the sword energy pierced through Five's chest, staining it crimson.
"I never expected to die at my master's hands," Five gasped, his life force dissipating as blood soaked his body, leaving him on the brink of death.
The Ghost Elder roared, "You think dying is easy? I will torment you slowly until you wish for death!"
Five's breath grew shallow as he surrendered, allowing the Ghostly Energy to invade his body. However, unbeknownst to anyone, the jade tower in his arms trembled, frantically absorbing his blood. If one looked closely, they would see that the inside of the tower was lined with strands of blood, resembling the meridians of a human body.
The Ghost Elder furrowed his brow, sensing an ominous feeling as the Ghostly Energy surrounding Five began to expel. It retreated from around him, and then warm jade-colored runes floated out from the Ghost Elder's chest, flowing like water into Five's mind.
Five opened his eyes, a glimmer of light passing through them as new knowledge filled his mind.
"It's the incantation to control this tower; this is the Linglong Tower!" Five exclaimed excitedly as he recited the Sutra. He held onto the tower tightly, and blood flowed from his wrist into it, emitting a crimson glow.
The tower had seven levels. As it began to rotate, the entire Azure Mountain shook violently. Everyone within its domain felt dizzy as the clouds in the sky coalesced into a massive vortex.
The Ghost Elder was alarmed and struck at Five with his large hand, fearing something might change. However, the jade tower suddenly slipped from Five's grasp and grew immensely in size. The jade light on the tower instantly shattered the Ghost Elder's hand before transforming into a colossal Pagoda that descended upon him.
The Ghost Elder widened his eyes, attempting to use the Void Technique to escape but found himself pinned in place by a mysterious force. The Pagoda descended upon him. Inside it, Five watched through three layers of windows as the struggling Ghost Elder was quickly met with a jade line that sliced through him; his head fell away from his body and was drawn up to the top level of the Pagoda.
With a thunderous crash, the Ghost Elder exploded into a spray of blood that trickled down the tower's surface, leaving behind intricate patterns of crimson.
Exhausted and drained from blood loss, Five collapsed onto the ground. He staggered toward the edge of Blood River and shouted, "Huzi!"
Red mist enveloped the river's surface, offering no response whatsoever.
From the moment Wu entered, his master had warned him never to approach the Blood River. The Evil Energy within the Blood River was too intense, harmful rather than beneficial to one's cultivation. Wu felt a wave of Evil Energy eroding his Dao Qi.
He turned to look at the massive and imposing Linglong Tower, silently reciting the tower's incantation. The Pagoda transformed into a jade-like structure and returned to his hand. He sat by the Blood River, placing the Linglong Tower above his Dantian. A warm, jade-like Spirit Energy flowed into his body, nourishing his injured muscles and bones, and warming his internal breath.
After a moment, Wu concealed the tower in his robes and then leaped into the Blood River. He remembered roughly where Huzi had fallen, but within the Blood River, all thoughts were cut off, and everything was bathed in red, faintly smelling of blood. He couldn't open his eyes; after diving ten meters deep, he could go no further and had to surface.
Disheartened, Wu emerged from the Blood River onto the shore. Clenching his fists, he vowed, "Huzi, rest in peace. I will avenge you!"
In the Yin Mountain Yang Family Imperial Hall, the Old Scholar sitting in the headmaster's position abruptly stopped speaking. An Elder below asked, "Ancestor, what is wrong?"
The Old Scholar replied, "Someone has killed my avatar."
"Isn't Ancestor's avatar already in possession of Ghost Elder's body? How could it be killed? Could it have encountered a Supreme?" asked a Yang Family Elder.
The Old Scholar said, "If my guess is correct, it must be that Linglong Tower has emerged. It seems even capturing an inexperienced brat can lead to death; I truly doubt whether it was my avatar. This Shadow Clone Technique of the book appears to have its flaws."
