As I finished off the High Priest and was about to leave, I suddenly sensed something unusual behind me. A shadow lunged at me, and I instinctively threw a punch, only to be sent flying backward with a loud thud.
Standing by the Longevity Pool was an old man in a black robe, his face obscured beneath the brim of his hat, shrouded in a haze of indistinct black mist.
I landed on a rock above and coldly regarded the old man, asking, "Who are you really? Could you be the Old Scholar?"
The old man remained silent. From beneath the black brim, two greenish lights glimmered. Just as I was about to use Time Walk to escape, dozens of Yang Family Elders flew in from all directions around the Longevity Pool, led by Li Chang'an.
Upon seeing me, Li Chang'an's expression showed slight surprise. "I didn't expect you to still be alive."
"If you're still alive, how could I dare to die first?" I retorted.
I took a step back as Li Chang'an signaled the surrounding Elders to seal off the void. The space solidified, preventing any Daoist Arts from being cast. One Elder stepped forward, shooting a Silver Thread from his index finger toward me. My own finger trembled as I wrapped the Silver Thread around my hand and yanked it sharply, snapping that Elder's finger in the process.
"You've encountered the ancestor of your Puppet Technique!" I stepped forward, moving like lightning to stand before that Elder and threw a punch.
The Elder formed a seal with one hand and drew a shield symbol in front of him. My punch broke through it, and the force drove through his chest bone, leaving him severely injured.
Seeing this, the others rushed forward. Those who got close engaged me in close combat with their magical tools while others stood back to assist with their Daoist Arts.
I spread my arms wide as Invisible Sword, Fish Intestine Sword, and Frostblade circled around me, slashing at those nearby. In an instant, many Elders dodged out of the way. A few were wounded by the sword energy from Frostblade. The Three Swords returned; Invisible Sword and Fish Intestine Sword were drawn back into my Qi Sea while I engaged in battle with a Yang Family Elder skilled in swordsmanship. This Elder was at the mid-stage of Nascent Soul Realm and matched my power level but had superior sword techniques. However, after several exchanges, I managed to sever his head.
Li Chang'an, who had been watching from the side, snorted and reached out with a massive hand toward me. I thrust my sword upward in response. Seeing this, Li Chang'an pressed down forcefully with his hand.
My feet sank into the ground as cracks spread across the surface. With a roar, I unleashed Rift Path and struck Li Chang'an's hand away. He withdrew his palm, which was now red and his sleeve torn. He clasped his hands together fiercely; the rocks on either side converged with a thunderous sound as I barely dodged through them amidst flying debris. A surge of Dao Qi shot toward my chest from within the dust cloud, sending me flying backward to crash onto the ground.
Though I had gained insights into Dao and could defeat anyone at my level, Li Chang'an was still a master of Mahayana Realm—his power far exceeded mine by hundreds of times. Without forbidden techniques, I simply couldn't contend with him.
"Ancestor, the clan is startled," Li Chang'an respectfully addressed the old man in the black robe.
I stood up and questioned the old man, "Are you really Old Scholar?"
The old man replied, "What if I am? What if I'm not?"
I said, "If you are, I am very disappointed. Futu Ridge's countless people worship you as a deity, yet you behave like this—indiscriminately persecuting Guo Daozhen, slaughtering the innocent, and turning the Yang Family into a chaotic mess. Where have you been for over a hundred years?"
The old man in the black robe laughed heartily. "You are a child with a rebellious spirit; you cannot be kept alive. You don't even kneel before the Ancestor Clan. The poison back then was indeed well placed."
"Was it you who cast the Blood Poison Curse back then?" I stared at the old man and asked.
"If I wanted to kill you, why would I need to use poison?" The old man said, his bony finger pointed at me. An irresistible force pulled me toward him. The stars within my acupoint lit up as the Martial Dao Classic quickly analyzed this Taoist Arts technique. Then my body suddenly halted.
The old man exclaimed, "This is truly remarkable! In all my years, I've never seen something so strange."
With a thunderous sound, the old man transformed into black smoke and charged at me. I silently recited a Taoist incantation. A layer of vital energy as thin as a cicada's wing enveloped me, blocking the black mist from getting close.
"You can wield Wudang Sect's Righteous Qi; give you a few more years and you'll surely rise!" The old man said as he spun his hands, condensing the black mist into a fierce wind that surged like a black dragon.
Cracks appeared in my Righteous Qi as the black gas seeped in. I suddenly punched out and staggered backward.
"Still trying to run at this moment!" Li Chang'an snorted, pressing down with his Transcendent Hand while others froze in place to prevent my escape.
At that moment, someone flew in from behind. He met Li Chang'an's Transcendent Hand with a palm strike and waved his sleeve to send the Yang Family Elder flying away.
“Guo Daozhen!” Li Chang'an squinted, his expression filled with anger.
Guo Daozhen said, “Let’s go!”
The two of us flew down towards the Longevity Pool, but the Yang Family Elder immediately pursued us. The old man in the black robe said, “There’s no need to chase them.”
Li Chang'an asked, “Ancestor, why aren’t we pursuing them?”
The old man replied, “Even if we catch up, we won’t be able to capture them. My current avatar is gradually losing power and will soon return to my main body. We shouldn’t delay the important matters of my true self. Guo Daozhen is not an ordinary person; it’s not the right time to make a big move.”
“Yes!” Li Chang'an responded.
At Yin Mountain, Guo Daozhen led me to the edge of an altar. He held a blue talisman and stepped into the altar, causing the Void Runes to light up. The altar activated its teleportation power.
“Where are you taking me?” I asked.
Guo Daozhen replied, “You’ll know once you arrive.”
After hesitating for a moment, I stepped onto the altar and disappeared from the wilderness of Yin Mountain alongside Guo Daozhen.
Moments later, we appeared out of thin air at the entrance of a cottage in a farmland. The surroundings were tranquil, with a young boy leading a yellow cow past us.
“Should I still call you Guo Daozhen or Guo the Blind?” I inquired.
Guo Daozhen said, “Call me Guo Daozhen. Guo the Blind is in the past now.”
"Why did you save me?" I asked.
Guo Daozhen replied, "For no particular reason. If I want to save someone, I just do it. People from the Daoist Sect act on impulse; there’s no need for so many reasons."
"Was that black-robed person we saw earlier really the Old Scholar?" I inquired.
Guo Daozhen shook his head and said, "It was just a clone of his."
"A clone can exist for that long?" I asked.
Guo Daozhen explained, "Once one's cultivation surpasses the Mahayana Realm, they enter the Tribulation Realm. In the Nine Major Realms, the Ninth Realm is unfathomable; all hidden powers within the body are unlocked, often leading to insights into extraordinary Divine Abilities. The Shadow Clone Technique is a method from the Yang Family Book. Unlike Possession, it can last for a considerable time. It's not surprising."
"If I can't even deal with one clone, what if he has hundreds? Wouldn't that make him invincible?" I questioned.
"You’re overthinking it. The Shadow Clone Technique is quite troublesome; it involves infusing one's essence into a soulless corpse. The original body cannot move for at least three months. It's already impressive that the Old Scholar has even one clone," a voice came from inside the cottage as Guo Huaiyi opened the door, wearing an apron from cooking in the kitchen. "Come in; the food is ready."
I glanced at Guo Daozhen beside me, who gestured for me to enter. Following Guo Huaiyi, I stepped into the main room of the Cottage, where a table was laden with four dishes and a pot of wine. Guo Huaiyi poured me a glass and said expressionlessly, "That was my Thousand Li Talisman. My father calculated that you were in trouble and used one of them. That Thousand Li Talisman is my lifeline; you owe me a favor."
I raised my glass to toast Guo Huaiyi. Unsure of what to say, I recalled that there had been conflicts between me and Guo Daozhen's family, yet we never truly regarded each other as enemies. Although I still felt some lingering resentment about the events at Futu Ridge, it was ultimately Futu Ridge's people who had wronged them first.
Guo Daozhen took a sip of wine and said, "Yang Hao, when I left Futu Ridge back then, I thought the Daoist Sect would be turned upside down because of you. But I didn’t expect your hostility to have diminished even more since then. It seems that having the Book of Life and Death taken away wasn’t entirely a bad thing."
I replied, "The Book of Life and Death was taken by the Yang Family, and I have this ominous feeling about it. I don’t know why, which is why I went to investigate. However, many people from the Yang Family suddenly disappeared, including Yang Xuanzong this time; even Yang Long is gone."
Guo Daozhen chuckled softly and said, "Yang Long is already dead."
"Dead?" I asked, my face filled with confusion. Yang Long was the unparalleled Dao prodigy cultivated by the Yang Family in this generation, possessing perfect qualifications and a flawless Golden Core. With just a bit of refinement, he could become another Supreme in the future. How could the Yang Family let Yang Long die?
Guo Daozhen replied, "I find it strange too, because I was also looking for him. His Perfect Golden Core is something everyone desires, but who would have thought that when I calculated his location, he had already died, his Soul dissipated? The Golden Core vanished, and all his hidden treasures became dilapidated. Otherwise, I wouldn't have allowed Yi'er to advance to the Nascent Soul Realm with just an Eight-Tier Golden Elixir."
Guo Huaiyi looked at me and asked, "Brother Yang has also reached the Nascent Soul Realm, right?"
I nodded and said, "I've just entered the Nascent Soul Realm a little over a month ago."
Guo Huaiyi sighed, "Your Golden Core can be reformed even after being dug out. Sigh, I've been practicing the Ghost Gate Secret Technique since I was eight years old, and my cultivation level is only now comparable to yours."
"It's rare to see you feeling defeated," I laughed. Then I asked Guo Daozhen, "Old Guo, do you know who took Yang Long's Golden Core?"
Guo Daozhen shook his head and said, "The person who took his Golden Core understands secret techniques and concealed their tracks. They must be someone who is very cautious and likely a young person needing to condense their own Golden Core. Later on, there were rumors that a woman attacked the Yang Family and abducted Yang Long. Coincidentally, Miao Guanyin from Nanhai Guanyin Monastery has come out of seclusion. I initially thought she was behind it, but she doesn't even have a disciple, and the Guanyin Monastery has never held grudges against any sects; it couldn't have been her."
"So it could be Miao Shengnan from Arched Eyebrows?" I speculated.
Guo Daozhen said, "Among the more powerful women in the Daoist Sect, Miao Shengnan is indeed a possibility. But if my guess is correct, it should be that person called Rain Master Luo who did it. You survived the fall from the cliff; she is someone from the Dao Fruit Realm—it's not so easy for her to die."
